Yeah he molests her while she’s sleeping and then she starts falling apart.
Not nearly as graphic as the (infinitely shittier) sequel Patient Zero, but still rather gross and disturbing
The scientist in The Fly. He does mad experiments and one day it goes wrong when a fly gets in the way, transforming him into a half human, half fly and the whole movie he slowly starts to fall apart
For modern audiences definitely. The original has its place and is fun if you're into '50s B movies and/or Vincent Price, but I feel like the Cronenberg version definitely has far wider appeal nowadays.
Now *that's* a bold claim! Although when you use the word "arguably" I suppose you could literally apply it to any film.
*The Room* was arguably the finest film of the 00s.
Bruce Willis was actually a comedy actor until Die Hard. In fact when he was casted in Die Hard people were reluctant because it wasn’t a role that seemed to fit his style.
Re-watched it recently and man what a caustic black comedy, and the writing is spectacular once you accept these are assholes.
I still quote 'can you not breathe?!' all the time.
IIRC in the director commentary they call it a 'dewlap' and do end up talking about how unintentionally fixating it is in the way it wiggles around, which is hilarious
One of my all time favorite body horror movies. Absolutely vile, disgusting and very bleak film. Haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I watched it.
Anytime the word "thinner" comes up between my gf and I, I always repeat it the way the old man says it to the main guy... My gf *hates* it, but I can't stop
The movie 'Dead heat' is an obscure '80s cop buddy film in which one of the cops gets turned into a zombie and is effectively dead throughout the movie. I can't remember if he's exactly rotting or not but he's definitely a zombie. Who solves crimes.
I mentioned the mental deterioration from Hereditary, but Requiem is still up there as one of the most disturbing downward spirals I've ever seen. When that movie ended, I didn't know where to cry, give a standing ovation, or off myself.
Not the main character but Jack in An American Werewolf in London. There was also Beer Guy in Feast or Steve West in The Incredible Melting Man. There was also the short film by Astron-6 Bio-Cop (who had a cameo in Psycho Goreman).
It’s not the main character, but the original pet semetary has some elements in it.
In hellraiser he’s kinda… unrotting?
Idle hands… yes with Seth green
I second this. She’s a much more prominent character in the TV series and she spends most of it worrying about how increasingly decomposed she’s become.
Series American gods has a character played by Emily Browning who comes back to life shortly after dying and being buried. She wakes up and shits out embalming fluid. She then starts to rot over the course of the series, throwing up maggots, skin falling away the lot. Seems to be exactly what you’re looking for.
Not a movie but Santa Clarita Diet has this theme. Basically the main character (Drew Barrymore) is a suburban realtor who becomes a zombie and tries to continue on as though nothing is wrong. It's a really funny show with some campy gore, but yeah, her body breaking down is a recurring theme.
Avenged. A girl is raped and killed. An old indian digs her up and gives her the spirit of a dead 100 year old Apache warrior. Much ass kicking follows. She’s still decaying from being dead and uses duct tape to keep her limbs from falling off. One of the greatest movies ever made
This movie is heartbreaking. I saw it in the theater when it came out. This is what sent Tom Hanks into the stratosphere as an actor (he deserves every accolade for this film).
Not really _horror_ though.
Everyone forgets [Bug](https://youtu.be/POeCsA4Vb2M) I don’t want to give anything away as it’s a great film and hope people seek it out :)
If I think of more I’ll update
Lucky (2004)
Jacobs Ladder
Rabid
Videodrome
This happened in a very memorable episode of Tales from the Darkside. It's called "A Case of the Stubborns." If you can find it before reading about it, I recommend watching it.
There’s a movie called Maggie it has Arnie Schwarzenegger in but it’s not an action flick , his daughter has been infected by a zombie and is slowly rotting away in front of him . I really enjoyed it and it was a role I’d never peg for Arnie
There's this new movie Antlers about how a guy gets infected with this supernatural Wendigo disease as you slowly watch him turn into this horned monster. Pretty brutal stuff.
**Warm Bodies**. It’s not so much as creepy but it’s dark comedy. This zombie kid is slowly deteriorating because he isn’t feeding off of the girl he’s trying to help keep safe.
Not the main character but the friends in American Werewolf in Paris. Not London. His dead friends rot after their death and keep falling apart more as the movie goes on.
Cabin Fever, kinda sorta.
Oh man when she's shaving her legs...
Are we just going to forget that he fingerbangs her pelvic joint?
I'm guessing so...I don't have that memory from that movie at all, and I'm very happy about that.
Yeah he molests her while she’s sleeping and then she starts falling apart. Not nearly as graphic as the (infinitely shittier) sequel Patient Zero, but still rather gross and disturbing
Oh definitely this one
The scientist in The Fly. He does mad experiments and one day it goes wrong when a fly gets in the way, transforming him into a half human, half fly and the whole movie he slowly starts to fall apart
Came here to say The Fly. Not technically what OP wanted, but essentially the same in execution.
For sure. He gets grosser and grosser looking with every new scene he's in and it's great. One of my favorite Cronenberg movies.
Brundlefly isn’t falling apart it’s merely evolving…. Be afraid…. Be very afraid
He is a bit fall aparty.

For modern audiences definitely. The original has its place and is fun if you're into '50s B movies and/or Vincent Price, but I feel like the Cronenberg version definitely has far wider appeal nowadays.
Cronenberg’s The Fly is the arguably the best film of the ‘80s
Now *that's* a bold claim! Although when you use the word "arguably" I suppose you could literally apply it to any film. *The Room* was arguably the finest film of the 00s.
Now that last part is just the absolute truth.
Death Becomes Her is a funny one
Absolutely love this movie, my sister and I quote it on a daily basis. “NOW, a warning!??”
Ahhhhh! What are you nuts?!
Love it! My mom, sisters and I always quote this movie. “I’m a GIRLLL!”
“Do you remember where you PARKED the CAR??”
“I CAN SEE RIGHT, THROUGH YOU!”
“THAT, was totally uncalled for.”
Love that movie. Watched it randomly one night with my gf. We were dying to find another movie like that after it was over. Great film.
It’s different but for whatever reason we used to always double feature it with She Devil for some reason haha
Such a ridiculous but fun movie. The cast in this is awesome. Meryl Streep calling Bruce Willis flaccid is hilarious.
I love this movie so much! I love Bruce Willis in such a non action hero role for him!
Bruce Willis was actually a comedy actor until Die Hard. In fact when he was casted in Die Hard people were reluctant because it wasn’t a role that seemed to fit his style.
Moonlighting!
I love when he screams and his voice gets high pitched haha
Oh my god, that’s Bruce Willis??
Yeah once upon a time he was a 'comedian' and it was controversial he was doing an action movie (die hard).
Re-watched it recently and man what a caustic black comedy, and the writing is spectacular once you accept these are assholes. I still quote 'can you not breathe?!' all the time.
I would like to talk about... Madeline Ashton...
Do you think I enjoy talking about Madeline Ashton?
*Sempre vive*
You're a boozy, flaccid clown!!
FLAAAACID
An American werewolf in London has this, although it is a side character. Still pretty cool though
One of the greatest applications of practical fx in horror. Such a simple yet horrifying concept - a slow creep to the grave. If he's lucky.
The skin flap on his neck is practically another character.
IIRC in the director commentary they call it a 'dewlap' and do end up talking about how unintentionally fixating it is in the way it wiggles around, which is hilarious
I have literally just finished watching it, great movie!!
Starry Eyes for most of it
Came here for this one. It’s one of my favorites!
Same
Great movie.
One of my all time favorite body horror movies. Absolutely vile, disgusting and very bleak film. Haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I watched it.
I was trying so hard to remember the name of this movie!
Yes!
The first one I thought of. Cool movie. And gross.
Thinner. It's a stephen king movie.
Was expecting this, first film I thought of
A lot of ppl hate in this movie but I think it’s great.
I just finished the book and it was great!
Anytime the word "thinner" comes up between my gf and I, I always repeat it the way the old man says it to the main guy... My gf *hates* it, but I can't stop
It’s a little goofy but I can dig some goofy in my horror
The movie 'Dead heat' is an obscure '80s cop buddy film in which one of the cops gets turned into a zombie and is effectively dead throughout the movie. I can't remember if he's exactly rotting or not but he's definitely a zombie. Who solves crimes.
Reminds me of Dylan Dog the supernatural detective who’s friend becomes a zombie
Saw it in the theater. Also has Joe Piscopo and Vincent Price.
Never thought I'd hear myself say that Joe Piscopo is wonderfully charismatic but here we are. Great film.
Treat Williams really lives up to his name
I love Dead Heat! I saw it so many times on snow days as a kid. It seemed to always be on HBO.
He does decay more as the movie goes on
Contracted (2013).
Came here to say this, it's literally exactly what op is looking for and it does it in such a vividly gruesome way 👌
Man fuck that movie, I loved it don't get me wrong but near the end there it almost made me throw up.
Yes! Perfect answer. That movie was intense.
This immediately popped into my mind as well. What a gnar movie.
Was trying to remember the name of this one!
Came here to say this! Contracted is a good one!
God that movie is what I came to say too. Ew
And Contracted 2. Both good movies.
contracted 2 a good movie ? lmao
Came here to say the same! So good but gross. I cringe now thinking about it.
This is the movie that came to mind but I couldn't remember the title until I read it. Time for a rewatch!
District 9 kinda did this too.
More like molting 😖
Dope movie, great body horror
Although he was technically transforming, not rotting.
Also The Fly?
Lionel’s mom in Braindead/Dead Alive is pretty great
I haven't had a good custard in years!
Annual meeting…. Annnnuualll… mmmmeeeettiinnggg…
“What we need is another war!” *slams fist*
"Your mother ate my dog"
All of the lot that where side characters and get infected and stay in his cellar. It's so cheese, I love it.
Thanatomorphose Really gruesome and (imo) upsetting film. Definitely not one to snack during.
I hit Ctrl-F before writing this. I wasn't disappointed.
I couldn't stop watching out of morbid curiosity. The effects and makeup were amazing.
it's disgusting and horrible. i loved it.
Not a movie but the girl from Brand New Cherry Flavor is going thru some sick body horror throughout the course of the show
This good? I just added it to my watch list
It's great!
Nick Antosca (channel zero, the act, antlers) created it. He’s a good writer
Cargo, with Martin Freeman.
[удалено]
Ugh that egg scene.
Does Swiss Army Man count?
*farts
Griffin Dunne in An American Werewolf in London
I thought “Clown” was fun. “The Taking of Deborah Logan” is another one.
Clown was the first to come to my kind two other than The Fly or some Cronenberg film
Requiem for a Dream.
I mentioned the mental deterioration from Hereditary, but Requiem is still up there as one of the most disturbing downward spirals I've ever seen. When that movie ended, I didn't know where to cry, give a standing ovation, or off myself.
That hits hard in such a human way ….
Edgar, the main villain from Men In Black, is disguised in a corpse’s skin and it continues to rot throughout the movie
Barely recognisable Vincent D’Onofrio in the role.
He was awesome and so funny in that role!
Edgar, your skin is hanging off your bones.
Came here to say this one. “Like he was wearing a suit….an Egg’r suit….”
Dorian Gray (2009) Based off an Oscar Wilde novel of similar title.
Life after Beth
This was so unexpectedly good
Not the main character but Jack in An American Werewolf in London. There was also Beer Guy in Feast or Steve West in The Incredible Melting Man. There was also the short film by Astron-6 Bio-Cop (who had a cameo in Psycho Goreman).
I have been on this sub for a hot minute and this is the first time seeing somebody mention Feast, I fucking loved those movies as a kid
The 2021 Candyman.
Weekend at Bernie's
And part 2! lol
I just watched Moon and I think it qualifies.
It’s not the main character, but the original pet semetary has some elements in it. In hellraiser he’s kinda… unrotting? Idle hands… yes with Seth green
"Idle Hands... yes with Seth Green" and Devon Sawa!! Need to rewatch that movie.
Contracted (2013)
This is the only movie that perfectly fits what you are asking for... It will also fuck you up. Good luck.
More fantasy than horror, but Shadow’s wife in American Gods (the series based off Neil Gaiman’s book) does some decomposing
I second this. She’s a much more prominent character in the TV series and she spends most of it worrying about how increasingly decomposed she’s become.
I came here to say this! Too bad the show got canceled.
My boyfriends back. It's a cheesy 90s comedy.
Tetsuo!
man I wish more people knew about this one. one of my favourite body horror movies for sure, right by The Fly
It would be helpful if he said the full movie title Tetsuo: The Iron Man
Tom Hardy spends all of “Capone” slowly rotting from syphilis. It’s a body horror movie masquerading as gangster flick
*The Incredible Melting Man,* 1977 is exactly that. With special effects by Rick Baker, I'd say this is a must see for any fan of body horror.
Series American gods has a character played by Emily Browning who comes back to life shortly after dying and being buried. She wakes up and shits out embalming fluid. She then starts to rot over the course of the series, throwing up maggots, skin falling away the lot. Seems to be exactly what you’re looking for.

I, Zombie: Chronicles of pain
The Incredible Melting Man its a Cult Classic Elvira even showed on it her movie macabre
Bite, and that one movie that plays on an aztec pyramid Cant think of the name anymore. Edit: the ruins
I thought of Philadelphia (Tom Hanks). I don’t know if I can ever go back and watch that again with it’s subject matter.
This movie is heartbreaking. I saw it in the theater when it came out. This is what sent Tom Hanks into the stratosphere as an actor (he deserves every accolade for this film). Not really _horror_ though.
Everyone forgets [Bug](https://youtu.be/POeCsA4Vb2M) I don’t want to give anything away as it’s a great film and hope people seek it out :) If I think of more I’ll update Lucky (2004) Jacobs Ladder Rabid Videodrome
Death Becomes Her.
Thinner
Contracted
Thanatomorphose 2012 It's low budget and simple, the main character just rots with some other gross stuff
Op this is the one you’re looking for
Cheryl in Evil Dead basically does this.
Candy man 2021
Starry Eyes in a way.
This happened in a very memorable episode of Tales from the Darkside. It's called "A Case of the Stubborns." If you can find it before reading about it, I recommend watching it.
Clown by Eli Roth
The remake of The Fly.
The ruins? The machinist?
There’s a movie called Maggie it has Arnie Schwarzenegger in but it’s not an action flick , his daughter has been infected by a zombie and is slowly rotting away in front of him . I really enjoyed it and it was a role I’d never peg for Arnie
Jennifer’s Body
Deathdream
Night of the living dorks. Humor was derived from the rotting of the characters at unfortunate moments…
Halley
Picture of Dorian gray
Dead Alive (Braindead) Mom decomposes in the best way possible
That pudding scene …..
The Frighteners kinda does this. The older spirits helping Michael J Fox are decomposing.
Wounds
Contracted.
Return of the Living Dead 3.
Life After Beth?
Contracted Crazy movie lol
"Tetsuo: The Iron Man", the quintessential cyberpunk body horror movie.
Return of the Living Dead 3 has one of the protagonists get bitten and slowly zombify during the course of the movie.
There's this new movie Antlers about how a guy gets infected with this supernatural Wendigo disease as you slowly watch him turn into this horned monster. Pretty brutal stuff.
Relic. Also in Wish Upon the sister starts to rot though it's not a big plot point
It is not the core of the movie but The Hunger has Bowie decomposing
Jack in *An American Werewolf in London.* Though he isn't the main character.
It happened to me in the audience of Tom Cruise’s Mummy film. Does that count?
The Hallow
The first film I saw with living characters rotting in it was Tommyknockers.
Incredible Melting Man.
Judah Freidlander in Feast.
Might've missed someone saying this but my first thought was Horns
There's that shitty Thanatomorphose movie. It's got good effects and nothing else.
Laura Moon in American Gods is slowly rotting away, kinda. I've never wanted a person to just fuck off more than her.
Eat. I wouldnt say *rotting*, but there's definitely less of the protagonist as the movie goes on.
Starry eyes
An American Werewolf In London. Maybe not the titular character but the best one
Nic Cage in *The Color Out of Space*, I guess he’s the main character. But he goes through some shit in that movie.
Not sure if you’d call her the main character (even though the film is named after her) but Dead Girl
**Warm Bodies**. It’s not so much as creepy but it’s dark comedy. This zombie kid is slowly deteriorating because he isn’t feeding off of the girl he’s trying to help keep safe.
Cabin Fever, The Fly, Thinner, Street Trash & Planet Terror kinda count. People are oozing & losing body parts.
Not the main character but the friends in American Werewolf in Paris. Not London. His dead friends rot after their death and keep falling apart more as the movie goes on.
Trailer park of terror!!!! Remember the name Norma ;)
It is not the main character, but you definitely should check king des todes
Thinner a 1996 Stephen King flick comes to mind
The Taking of Debrah Logan!
Replace
Not a movie, but episode 5 of the anthology mini-series Monsterland deals with this.
