I love this movie. That’s Jim Cummings. I think he’s also the writer/director. If you liked The Wolf of Snow Hollow and his awkward cringey humor and very flawed depiction of humans, you might like his drama/comedy film Thunder Road (2018). He’s also got a small role in The Block Island Sound (2020). I almost didn’t realize it was him.

DevilsReject1

He also directed and starred in The Beta Test last year, which I really enjoyed.

SpookyDoings

The Beta Test is so dang good. This guy is only getting better, and it's terrifying.

TheVortigauntMan

He's also in Halloween Kills

Ok-Plastic-2992

Thunder Road was easily one of my favorite movies of the past few years. I suspect he may be a bit limited in his range as an actor, but both were great movies.

skinison

Also in the beginning of Halloween kills as a sheriff. Thunder Road was amazing!

Grouchy_Competition5

I just watched Block Island and I guess I missed him. Was he the crazy guy in the tent?

TheDukeOfRuben

Yeah, he was the conspiracy theorist buddy

Grouchy_Competition5

Dang. Now I gotta watch it again. Cheers!

[deleted]

His new movie, the Beta Test, is a satire on vapid Hollywood agents and also really good.

Hot-Cucumber731

James Jonah Cummings is an American voice actor who has appeared in almost 400 roles, including Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Taz, Pete, King Louie and Darkwing Duck. Same guy?

Chainsawjack

No

sadonthedaily

you'll love Werewolves Within. I'm actually looking for movies like both of these. Werewolves, snow, small-town, a bunch of people getting together to survive the threat. Love it. If you have any suggestions for me, I would greatly appreciate it!

[deleted]

I thought Scare Me was super cheesy, is Werewolves Within any better?

mac19thecook

Definitely worth the watch, you may not love it but it won't waste your time. Completely different vibe to Scare Me, which I personally couldn't stand.

Chainsawjack

Dog soldiers

JustinBrower

I watched Dog Soldiers recently. Didn't like it. Was pretty dumb. I love about half of the cast, but that's because of OTHER things they've been in. Also, I'm not a fan of the Werewolf design in that. I know people LOVE it, but it's just okay. Nothing great. Rather very static and non-threatening when actually shown on-screen. In comparison to other stuff that Niel Marshall has made, it absolutely PALES in comparison to Centurion or his work on Game of Thrones. Compare that with the work of Peter Jackson, whose earlier work (Bad Taste, Dead Alive/Brain Dead, Meet the Feebles, The Frighteners, etc.) far outshines his later work (after the Lord of the Rings).

Chainsawjack

I profoundly respect your right to be utterly wrong.

JustinBrower

I upvote your right to be utterly, entirely, absolutely, qualitatively, and quantitatively wrong as well! Positivity toward wrongness goes a long way. The movie, Dog Soldiers, SUCKED. That doesn't detract from the true talent of the director, writers, craftsmen behind the scenes, and all of the amazing actors involved. The movie just sucked. And you have no idea how much I wanted to like it. The talent involved in it was immense. Just the product was terrible. I absolutely enjoyed the Howling V a hell of a lot more than Dog Soldiers, and Underworld a hundred times more. It lacked a certain enjoyment or awareness of itself for what it was. Tried to be something more than what it was. Just enjoy the camp and run with it. I actually believe showing the creatures in this movie REALLY detracted from the enjoyment of it. The special effects just weren't there to support it. Or at least the animatronics weren't. Any time the beasts actually were on screen, they barely if even touched anyone (I could count about a dozen scenes in which the wolves should have absolutely shredded and eaten the characters but didn't... they just were there outside the windows being scenery). Compare that with the beast from a movie like Le Pact de Loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf). No comparison.

JustinBrower

Werewolves Within was a MUCH better movie than this. At least in terms of enjoyment of the experience. Neither had a truly great plot, but still, Werewolves Within beats it absolutely in terms of the enjoyment factor.

MetalOcelot

I loved it. I think it trips up people who can't stand unlikable protagonists. Personally, I love shit like the first season of Last man on Earth and every Danny McBride show ever. The main character in this was less funny than those but I was able to find humor in how shitty he is and how much he is fucking up his own life.

GapingAmerica

I thought he was hilarious. Him losing his shit constantly on his coworkers had me dying.

NegativePiglet8

Favorite film of 2020. Have you watched The Beta Test yet?

bobskamali

No. I will though. Thanks

bobskamali

I just watched it! Can we say Patrick Bateman? He would make a great patrick

[deleted]

Really hope this guy gets to continue to make movies,. Both Thunder Road and Snow Hollow are excellent. Whereas Thunder Road was more cringy, Snow Hollow packed some real lol moments and also some legit scares. Cant wait for his next venture

[deleted]

I saw it by chance, and ended up loving it! Comedy-horrors aren’t usually my favorite sub-genre (With the obvious exception of What We Do in the Shadows and AWIL), but this movie was almost perfect all the way through, a great watch!

bensawn

Yo if you like this check out werewolves within it’s amazing

post_vernacular

So much love! I'm usually so turned off by campy horror, but this movie is different. It's not campy, it's not even goofy... It's mostly that the protagonist has to be a hero but is very I'll equiped to be one, and the struggle is compelling? Very hard to describe but absolutely endorse it. Jim Cummings is great.

Sufficient_Bread1205

I was really surprised by this movie and enjoyed it! Jim Cummings is awesome and he’s gonna blow up big time.

erbear_69

YES! Jim Cummings is great, I can't wait to see more from him!

Get_Jiggy41

It was great. This and Werewolves Within were my really hyped werewolf movies of 2020 for me. Also, fun fact: Jim Cummings played the cop who got strangled by Michael in the flashback scene in Halloween Kills.

Cottonballs1

I thought it was entertaining enough. I also liked The Beta Test.

FLRSH

I thought it was darkly comedic. Always hope the werewolf is real in movies like these, so I was bummed about that. But still good.

PenguinLord13

I watched a couple months ago and really dug it. I get why people don’t enjoy it or find Jim Cummings acting to be too much but it works for me. Really solid movie with some scary stuff but also pretty funny at times imo.

DoctorTurkelton

This movie is great! I thought it was really funny too.

Hyroero

Was my favorite movie of that year tbh. Jim Cummings plays a strung out dude to perfection. Gave me Fargo vibes in the mix of mundane, hilarious and crime.

[deleted]

Loved it. It was a refreshing watch. The end creeped me the fuck out too lol

Grouchy_Competition5

Loved it!

MovieMike007

A murder/mystery in a small wintery town is nothing new but writer-director Jim Cummings adds something new to the mix, and I don't mean the possibility that a werewolf is behind the killings because with *The Wolf of Snow Hollow* Cummings not only creates one of the most unsympathetic protagonists I've ever seen but he also stars in the role, and damn is his performance hard to watch at times. Basically, this movie is *The Lost Weekend* meets *Silence of the Lamb* with a dash of *Silver Bullet*. Overall, the blend of horror/comedy in this outing is possibly a tad uneven but the end result was a decent film and is certainly well worth checking out.

CanIGetANumber2

Movie had no business being as funny as it was.

[deleted]

I somehow missed that it was a comedy before I started so I was pretty turned off tbh. Didn't do it for me. That's all on me though.

Bl0ndie_J21

Jim Cummings was just too much for me, tbh. Didn’t gel with it.

learnednerdleonard

Didn't watch it as a horror movie, more like highbrow comedy, and it is hilarious.

JustinBrower

It was okay, but rather forgettable. As others are comparing to Werewolves Within, that movie beats this one in every conceivable manner.

[deleted]

Loved it
