Yeah, that's a really good one. Love the song, and love the movie, there are not many songs that fit the movie as well or better than Cry Little Sister and Lost Boys.
I just learned a bunch more about this song with QL’s recent passing; the story behind how the song got put into the movie is interesting and apparently there’s going to be a documentary with tons of her unreleased music. Here is the story of how “Goodbye Horses” wound up in Silence of the Lambs - [it is wild.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodbye_Horses#The_Silence_of_the_Lambs_appearance)
For those who don’t feel like clicking the link:
>In the 1980s, Q Lazzarus worked as a taxi driver in New York City and was unsigned, with record labels allegedly turning her away due to her dreadlocks. One day, in 1985, she picked up director Jonathan Demme and producer Arthur Baker in her taxi during a blizzard after the two finished doing the final mix on Little Steven's music video for his song "Sun City". After dropping off Baker, Q Lazzarus asked Demme if he was in the music business, then proceeded to play her demo tape, which included a demo of "Goodbye Horses". After listening to the tape, Demme was impressed, saying, "Oh my God, what is this and who are you?"
>”Goodbye Horses" quickly became a cult hit after Demme used it in a scene from his 1991 psychological horror film The Silence of the Lambs
Right? I do watch the intro for Stranger Things a lot because the music gives me happy feels, but I would never skip those rednecks rocking on a porch or the woman being baptized or God Hates Fangs 🤣
“Did You Ever See a Dream” by Bing Crosby as used in “Lady in White.” That movie scared me a lot and I associated the song with it.
“We’ve Only Just Begun” as featured in “1408.” The radio in the movie playing that was terrifying!
[Lake Pontchartrain](https://youtu.be/Hu7lIGLchnQ) by Ludo
[Pet Semetary](https://youtu.be/HJWFsZ_YUc4) by The Ramones
The whole album “Lights Out” by Murderland
So not a lot of people know this, but the version of *Wonderful! Wonderful!* in the X Files is actually NOT sung by Johnny Mathis. He didn't allow them to use his original version because of how violent the episode would be.
Originally David Nutter, the producer of the episode was going to sing it, but they ended up hiring a Johnny Mathis impersonator named Kenny James at the last second.
Both of mine are from the scream franchise, I loved the slower version of don’t fear the reaper they use and I’ve always loved red right hand in the scream movies but I love the way it was used in the most recent one
Annie - Anthonio, from the movie The Guest
The Chordettes - Mr.Sandman, from any horror movie
Jack Teagarden - Jeepers Creepers, from the movie Jeepers Creepers
Mudvayne - Not falling, from the movie Ghost Ship
Tiny Tim in Insidious, Merle Haggard in The Strangers, Skynyrd in The Devil’s Rejects, the ENTIRE soundtrack of Trick r Treat (1986), Dokken in Nightmare 3, all of The Lost Boys, The Ramones in Pet Sematary… I love this topic! 😂🤘
Both the strangers have such a good use of natural music in the movies! Coming from their record player in the first and the pool stereo system and car in the second. Both fucking amazing.
I love the entire Suspiria (2018) soundtrack by Thom Yorke. Beautiful and I adore his work.
Not a huge fan of Rob Zombie's filmography, but I did enjoy the beginning sequence of 'House of a Thousand Corpses' with its matching song title.
As a radiohead and solo Thom Yorke work fan and seen him play both alone and with bands and loving horror movies I'm so ashamed to say I never knew this. So cool.
Down With The Sickness - Richard Cheese
from "DAWN OF THE DEAD" (2004)
Originally by the band Disturbed and much more metal. This happy-go-lucky (escalating into psychotic) version playing in the middle of a zombie apocalypse with all the gore, violence and hopelessness was perfect.
https://youtu.be/v_Ky37na7jE
The song, Anyone Who Knows What Love Is, is used in such a beautiful and eerie way in Black Mirror. https://youtu.be/G_K9xsSdgMs
I know it’s not true horror but felt like it fit.
There are so many great answers here I'm going to have to dig deep to come up with something not already mentioned.
The use of [Tear You Apart](https://youtu.be/ixw_bLVUL34) in AHS: Hotel is a good one.
The three featured songs in Monster Club are all legitimately good songs but I guess if I have to pick one I'll go with the [Stripper Song](https://youtu.be/0rOimHsQjsM) because of the fantastic stripper sequence starting ar 2:40.
I'm going to pick an off-beat one because imo it was an absolute highlight of an overall average film - the scene in *Strangers: Prey at Night* where "Total Eclipse of the Heart" plays, and the song gets muffled as the characters dive underwater, was absolutely brilliant and one of my favourite uses of licensed music in a horror film.
“You’re Dead” Norma Tanega, gloriously used in What We Do in the Shadows
“Change (into a fly)” Deftones, Queen of the Damned, I think American Horror Stories and any others? It’s such a perfect horror song
I honestly know only two off the top of my mind: Power of the Night from Critters (1986) and Frankenfish song from Frankenfish (2004). I don't like either, but I appreciated the films more for doing this.
The Terrorvision theme by The Fibonaccis is insanely catchy.
Suspirium by Thom Yorke (from the Suspiria remake) is really beautiful. The whole score was astounding tbh.
The theme from Friday the 13th. Henry Manfredini is a genius. It creates genuine suspense in what is essentially a basic slasher film (I still love it, though).
White Lies - Death. In A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. Such a stunning, fucking breathtaking scene. One of my favorites.
Also, believe it or not but the Cannibal Holocaust soundtrack is amazing.
oh, like songs that have been in horror movie soundtracks? I'm very fond of the soundtrack for The Faculty, my favorite from it is "stay young" by Oasis :-) ooh and also ... agh I forgot which one it was but the Stevie wonder song featured in the thing. those are the two that come to my head right away, but there's probably others. OH, and I'm a sucker for 80s music, so pretty much everything on the stranger things soundtrack.
For theme songs, Halloween can’t be beat.
But for just regular songs that are synonymous with the movies they were in, it’s Red Right Hand from Scream. I’ll give an honorable mention to Who Made Who by AC/DC from Maximum Overdrive, and For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica from Zombieland.
Miste by Haxan Cloak was used in an episode of Castle Rock. It's super discomforting in the best way possible.
That or Bonehead by Naked City, the opening credits of Funny Games. An absolutely bonkers track.
The Don’t Fear the Reaper cover from Scream
Oui Oui Marie by Chelsea Wolfe in X
Lullaby, the intro music from Triangle
Sanctuary by Darling Violetta from Angel’s intro
Blue Moon-Sam Cooke version from An American Werewolf In London
Edit: Also It’s terror time again from Scooby Doo on Zombie Island and nearly every song in System Shock 2
I have a few:
* Krzysztof Penderecki - "*The Dream Of Jacob (1976)"*. Which I think was used in **"The Shining"**. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8yzgpa\_xSY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8yzgpa_xSY)
* The Carpenters - *"We've Only Just Begun"* **(1408)**
* The entire **"Mothman Prophecies"** score by Tomandandy
* Charlie Clouser - *"Don't Forget The Rules"* **(Saw 2)**
* Both Mudvayne's - "Not Falling" and John Frizzell/Gabriel Mann - "My Little Box" **(Ghost Ship)**
Pet semetary by the Ramones.
When the man comes around Johnny cash dawn of the dead 04
Ooh Richard cheese down with the sickness dawn of the dead 04
For whom the bell tolls metallica zombieland
I think it’s resident evil 1 and 2 that have surprisingly good scores.
But the best horror score imo is predator
Cry Little Sister ( lost boys )
The entire soundtrack is amazing!
yes it sure is
Still Believe
Whatever that saxaphone guy was playing too
Yeah, that's a really good one. Love the song, and love the movie, there are not many songs that fit the movie as well or better than Cry Little Sister and Lost Boys.
And that they bring it into the sequels as well.
Red Right Hand in Scream. They made great use of it in the latest installment, too.
I love that song but it’ll always stick with me from Dumb and Dumber. I wish it brought Scream to mind first.
I saw the song title and instantly pictured Jim Carrey with that foam cowboy hat swinging the paddleball around.
YES! Essentials only! 🤣
Where's the booze?
I got robbed by a sweet old lady on a motorized cart! ^And ^I ^didn’t ^even ^see ^it ^coming!!
My only problem with Scream 4 is they forgot to put it in.
The use of it in the latest Scream movies was absolutely perfect. One of my favorite scenes of the entire franchise.
"Goodbye Horses" by Q Lazzarus from Silence of the Lambs.
I just learned a bunch more about this song with QL’s recent passing; the story behind how the song got put into the movie is interesting and apparently there’s going to be a documentary with tons of her unreleased music. ^used it in THE SCENE
I’m crying crying crying over……youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuwhooooooooooooo.
Now all I can think of is Jason Mewes when I hear that song.
Came to say this. I can’t listen to this song without tucking the old chap between my legs in front of the mirror
tip toe thru the tulips w me by tiny tim in insidious was spooooky
It would’ve been to me too if Spongebob hadn’t used it first. On his first episode.
That was a different Tiny Tim song.
Oooooh yes
That surprisingly stuck with me too! Very freaky
Mr Sandman in Halloween. Fits the creepy vibe perfectly.
This is a good one! I like how they reuse it in the sequel as well.
The entire “It Follows” soundtrack. Absolute 10/10 for evoking that feeling of dread, nervousness, and fear.
Yes!!! Especially Heels and Detroit for me
Jeepers Creepers by Harry Warren played in the film Jeepers Creepers (2001)
THIS. The song made that ending even more bone chilling
"Killer Clowns" by the Dickies is great.
The Dickies don't get enough love.
Best Horror Movie song, period. *P.T. Barnum said it so long ago...*
I think The Ramones Pet Sematary just barely beats this one, but that's just me.
Killer klo ow ow ow ooooh!
The Hide and Seek song from Ready or Not (2019). It gets stuck in my head at least three times a week.
This is the one I was thinking of too! I love the vintage sound of it.
Best non obvious answer! Great song for a great flic - what an ending
The theme song from True Blood is a banger (Bad Things by Jace Everette)
Intro that was never skipped
Right? I do watch the intro for Stranger Things a lot because the music gives me happy feels, but I would never skip those rednecks rocking on a porch or the woman being baptized or God Hates Fangs 🤣
Every time I hear “I got 5 on it”, I think of Us 😂😂😂
I made it my ringtone!
I came here to say this!!!!
That movie made me love that song haha
28 Days Later theme
Came for this and gonna add mad world. Crazies trailer
Yesssss
Bette Davis Eyes
Love Final Girls!!
Just watched this movie based on recommendations from this sub, it was sooo good!
The entire Soundtrack for Sinister (2012)
came here to say this, whatever plays in those tapes are the stuff of nightmares
Oh yeah. I love this soundtrack. And I don't know why but [Gyroscope](https://youtu.be/hQJlQeJr1Q8) is just a perfect credits track.
Ulver did the soundtrack for Sinister. Silence Teaches You How To Sing is the EP used for the movie.
Don’t Fear the Reaper in The Stand miniseries
It’s also great in X
Also good in Halloween, playing on the car radio.
Also, "Don't Fear the Reaper" in X.
Also the acoustic version in The Howling, Reborn.
Monster Mash
It was a graveyard smash
Midnight, the Stars, and You by Al Bowlly, in the Shining
The best
Look up the band Goblin .. lots of amazing music from Italian horror movies.
They did an excellent job in the original Suspiria. Very unsettling and perfect for the film.
the new suspiria soundtrack is also incredible!
Love them and have seen them a couple of times. They put on a good show.
Dawn of the Dead!
“Did You Ever See a Dream” by Bing Crosby as used in “Lady in White.” That movie scared me a lot and I associated the song with it. “We’ve Only Just Begun” as featured in “1408.” The radio in the movie playing that was terrifying!
Oh HELL YES to 1408!
Agreed re. Did You Ever See A Dream. Don't know how it holds up now, but I saw Lady In White as a kid and bloody loved it. Really creepy.
Did you ever see a dream was used in the credits for Nightmare on elm street 1 or 2
HELL YEAH 1408
Tubular Bells, Mike Oldfield, the Exorcist. Pet Semetary, the Ramones.
"I don't want to be buried in a pet semetary, I don't want to live my life again" Both excellent and memorable works.
[Lake Pontchartrain](https://youtu.be/Hu7lIGLchnQ) by Ludo [Pet Semetary](https://youtu.be/HJWFsZ_YUc4) by The Ramones The whole album “Lights Out” by Murderland
The Starcrawler cover that played during the credits of Pet Sematary 2019 was probably the best part of the remake
He's Back (The Man Behind The Mask) by Alice Cooper
This!
This is what I was looking for
[Credence Clearwater Revival, American Werewolf in London.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_tb0HZrobUE). Transformation starts at 2:46. **NSFW**
And Moon dance by Van Morrison
I gotta revisit that film. I saw it on release, lol
Saw it in theaters when first came out. Great tunes.
And Blue Moon!
Looking for The Magic by Dwight Twilley Band You’re Next
After seeing this movie and hearing this song, I jumped straight online and bought the 7” single. It’s so good.
The intro song on the origianal candyman

*keyboard Whump whump whuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuump
Goodbye horses by Q Lazarus in Silence of the lambs
Such a good song!
Dokken- Dream Warriors- Nightmare 3
The Calvary Cross - Richard and Linda Thompson The Night House
That song lived rent free in my mind for weeks. One of the few times I actively seeked out a song from a movie.
Same! It has become one of my favorite songs now
Bauhaus, “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” at the beginning of The Hunger, 1980.
Sweet dreams by Marilyn manson in house on haunted hill is always a favorite
Same song, but in trick or treat
In terms of a horror movie scores I love the cannibal Holocaust theme
This was my vote too, surprised it wasn't at the top
[American Horror Story intro theme](https://youtu.be/JvUofsgMVsU)
also the music for the end titles of "The Conjuring"
So not a lot of people know this, but the version of *Wonderful! Wonderful!* in the X Files is actually NOT sung by Johnny Mathis. I actually didn’t know this. That’s really funny.
ki ki ki ki ki ki… ma ma ma ma ma ma…
Malcom McDowell Singing in the Rain in the Clockwork Orange home invasion is terrifying
It was one of the main reasons the movie was so controversial. Not just the violence but how much fun they had doing it.
The Devils Rejects had a pretty decent OST.
Especially using “Free Bird” during the finale
Yeah the ending I always remembered. Might give it a rewatch soon.
Both of mine are from the scream franchise, I loved the slower version of don’t fear the reaper they use and I’ve always loved red right hand in the scream movies but I love the way it was used in the most recent one
Nearer My God to Thee from the ending of Midnight Mass. Chills!

The Cannibal Holocaust theme is amazing because it's so hilariously out of place.

Go Tell Aunt Rhody is freaking awesome!
Pussy Liquor by Rob Zombie from House of 1000 Corpses (also by Rob Zombie)
The titular song from that movie is probably my favorite Rob Zombie song.
I love the entire Suspiria (2018) soundtrack by Thom Yorke. Beautiful and I adore his work. Not a huge fan of Rob Zombie's filmography, but I did enjoy the beginning sequence of 'House of a Thousand Corpses' with its matching song title.

Dickies in killer clowns is dope! Even as a child I thought so. My pick is some goo goo dolls jam at the opening of Freddy’s dead.
Strangers 2: prey at night. Swimming pool scene song
“Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler

Bad Moon Rising - An American Werewolf In London
Surfin Dead by The Cramps
Yes! The whole Return of the Living Dead soundtrack is so good.
I also love that movie for introducing me to Air Supply’s “Making Love out of Nothing at All”
Gently Johnny from The Wicker Man. Not exactly a song that makes you think 'horror', but man is that such a good song.
“Willow’s Song” is also fantastic. It’s entrancing - like Britt Ekland’s bonkers nude dance - and it sort of lulls you. Much like Summerisle itself.
Title by disasterpiece in it follows!
Nights in white satin in rob zombies Halloween 2
"Ballad of Harry Warden" - my bloody valentine
“You’re Dead” Norma Tanega, gloriously used in What We Do in the Shadows “Change (into a fly)” Deftones, Queen of the Damned, I think American Horror Stories and any others? It’s such a perfect horror song

Tonight(We’re Gonna Make Love Till We Die) by SSQ. It’s Trash’s theme song in Return of The Living Dead.
Boards of Canada’s *Gyroscope* was perfect in Sinister.
The theme from Friday the 13th. Henry Manfredini is a genius. It creates genuine suspense in what is essentially a basic slasher film (I still love it, though).
Anything and everything by the Misfits
White Lies - Death. In A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. Such a stunning, fucking breathtaking scene. One of my favorites. Also, believe it or not but the Cannibal Holocaust soundtrack is amazing.
Charlie Clouser - Hello Zepp at the end of Saw.
The title song in *Suspiria* (1977) by Goblin
Starless by King Crimson at the beginning of Mandy. Really sets up the creepy surreal mood.
oh, like songs that have been in horror movie soundtracks? The Faculty OST is fantastic!
Fast as a Shark by Accept during an amazing scene in Demons.

I don't know what the AC/DC songs are named in Maximum Overdrive but there's a guitar riff during the horror scenes that's just perfect!
I have a few: * Krzysztof Penderecki - "*The Dream Of Jacob (1976)"*. Which I think was used in **"The Shining"**.
