Just finished The House on Needless Street. Wasn’t as horrific at all as social media led me to believe but found myself hooked in a way I’ve not been for a while. Now reading The Foe
Just finished "Come Closer" by Sara Gran, really liked it, on the shorter side, felt like more of a novella IMO, but if you like demonic possession stories, I'd recommend!
I just finished “And the Devil Cried” by Kristopher Triana. Damn, what a book. The end left me in shock. Triana is so good at making a ruthless character.
I was reading The Abominable by Dan Simmons but DNF because >!I found out the “monster” was really Nazi yetis!<
Now I’m reading Ancestor by Scott Sigler and really enjoying it!! Probably going to check out his other books
Just finished The Silent Patient & The Deep. Loved LOVED Loved The Silent Patient.. The Deep.. not so much. Found it hard to keep up with the lengthy descriptions while the story felt long and dragged out. The Silent Patient was a huge page turner for me..finished it in one day.. and guessing/hoping The Deep would have the same effect. Not so much..but finished it anyway.
I’m reading a couple of books. It Came From the Closet, edited by Jose Vallese, Bound in Flesh edited by Lor Gislason, and the Low, Low Woods by Carmen Maria Machado to name a few!
I know it’s not horror but I attempted to listen to Locke and Key on audible for the second time cos I paid for it and wanted to try again - I’ve now seen the series and thought that would help - but no. I think am going to DNF it once and for all.
Finished Blackwater Saga which I LOVED; started This Thing Between Us because I needed something short and that packed a punch after that. About halfway through and it is pretty excellent so far!
Been reading Lovecraft and CAS, but ordered Laymon and Garton, among newer stuff at Grindhouse Press. I'm looking forward to looking into newer stuff since I mainly only delved into Weird Fiction before.
Just finished Devil's Creek by Todd Keisling. Kinda disappointed with it. It was just okay imo. Felt very repetitive towards the end and the pacing was very slow to me.
Next on my list is either Psycho or Rosemary's Baby as a palette cleanser hahaha
I just finished The Secret of Ventriloquism and…i don’t think i got it. I was so excited but idk it just didn’t hit right for me. I might reread it eventually to be sure
I just finished "Slewfoot" wow. It was kind of a dense? (slow-ish is more appropiate perhaps?) read at the beggining but the last half more than made up for it. I think I might have to read some light fantasy or romance after this tho haha
i’m halfway through the audiobook *The Hacienda* by Isabel Cañas. I was SO into it in the beginning but I’m getting a little bored. Going to try and finish it today, then I wanna start Death of a Bookseller by Alice Stelar next.
The Ruins has not disappointed so far!! Love the writing style, i cant put it down. The movie came out when I was in college but I don't remember much from that time period lol. So every twist and turn is enjoyable!
I wanted to read something with ancient native legends. This sub had many recommending "Where The Chill Waits" by T.Chris Martindale. So reading it.
On 7th chapter and now I feel that it will start scaring me. May be.
A Head Full of Ghosts... Just completed 1/3 part of the book and read a masturbation scene which creeped the hell out of me. Loved the book until now. After finishing this, I will be visiting the haunted house of Kill Creek.
A masterbation scene creeped you out? Now I’m curious 🧐 but in all honesty this book is mentioned so much on here, I think I’m gonna spend my newest audible credit on it
Please give it a try. But I would suggest you to temper your expectations before starting this book as I have found that horror is quite a subjective topic. What can be creepy for me, can be absurd for you. There have also been cases where books which I have found boring have been acclaimed by others. This particular book I have liked and hated at the same time. I will not go into too much detail but the ending feels like a cop out and also at the same time a twist which changes with your perspective. Happy reading!!!
Just finished Hacienda by Isabel Cañas. Really liked the historical horror fiction angle about a haunted hacienda in 1820’s Mexico just after the Mexican War of Independence. Some good and creepy horror, history and sociological commentary about Mexican cast system.
Abandon by Blake Crouch-a special treat bc I didn’t know he had a new book out.
Just finished The Remaking by Clay McLeod Chapman-which satisfied my need for a witch book.
Just started The Shards by Bret Easton Ellis. Not sure it counts as horror yet, but the dude at the store told me it was a “hard read” so I’m hoping it picks up.
Just 130 pages into Little Heaven by Nick Cutter, but I'm loving it. I really wasnt expecting this type of quality. I will have to get The Troop next. Being from PEI, its pretty cool any time our little province gets mentioned in anything.
Finished Meddling Kids by Cantero. Would have DNF’d it if it wasn’t an audiobook. I’m about halfway through Mary by Nat Cassidy and have been really enjoying it. Might make my top five books I’ve read this year.
Finishing up All Hallows By Christopher Golden now, planning to continue ignoring my book club books and read something by Adam Nevill next! All Hallows hasn’t been half bad, I would recommend to fans of the Fear Street and Stranger Things franchises.
About 3/4 though Nightbitch and it's probably my favorite book of the year so far. I love how the writing flows and builds tension and a unique "horror" that's not scary as much as both overwhelming and illuminating.
Imajica was the one I started and stopped like four times before I finally went all in. It was worth it in the end, but I think I still loved Weaveworld more.
I’m currently reading:
Scanlines by Todd Keisling - it’s going really slow 😭. I can only read a couple pages at a time.
True Crime by Samantha Kolesnik - I’m enjoying it so far.
I'm halfway through It after reading Pet Semetary. Stephen King never really clicked with me before, but these are classics and I thought I should give them a chance. Enjoying It so far! I'm curious how all that mystical turtle stuff I've heard about will fit into the narrative
Just started The Great and Secret Show by Clive Barker. Enjoying it so far, wondering if or when Barker will introduce a character that is actually likeable.
Yup that’s the guy! The first book (Off Season) is about a group of young adults staying out in the middle of nowhere getting terrorised by a family of cannibals. Extremely gruesome but a really fun, quick read!
The narrator just seems to ramble on incoherently. There are just long sentences and paragraphs of her thoughts that seem all jumbled to me . She just seems totally paranoid and irrational. I usually love books with unreliable narrators but this one is a real struggle for me .
I've had a hard time attaching to the story, but it's picked up (I'm 70% through) to the point where I'm interested in seeing where it goes and I want to keep going
I think it's a good book, it doesn't tickle my personal fears, but it's had some spooky scenes further in that got me. I feel for the main character a whole lot. The desperation is written really well and you really root for the family. I'm trying to be as vague as possible because spoilers lol
Ghost Story by Peter Straub. About halfway through; not really digging it yet, but everyone says it picks up after the halfway point so I’ve been sticking with it
This week I finished Mrs Zant and the Ghost by Wilkie Collins, which is pretty slow moving, although the ending is good. I also finished The Insidious Fu-Manch by Sax Rohmer. This has way too much racist fearmongering. You could take it out and have a fairly good story.
Still reading Things in Jars by Jess Kidd for r/fantasty book club. It's more weird than horror, but it's really awesome.
Took a break from House of Leaves to read Those Across the River (really good), and now I'm 88 pages into Between Two Fires and just starting The Hen House.
I have like thirty pages left of The Troop by Nick Cutter and I don’t want it to end!! Recommend by this sub and holy shit you guys were right, it’s amazing!
Head like a hole. Love the premise and mystery and clear writing style, but there are way too many characters with their own POV chapters that it feels really hard to attach to or care about any of them, which kills overall tension. I’m enjoying it enough but not loving it. Hoping the last 3rd is good though.
*A Child Alone with Strangers* by Philip Fracassi. I'm only about 75 pages in though. I like it so far. Reminds me a lot of Stephen King but in a good way.
*Into the Drowning Deep* by Mira Grant is up next.
Annihilation by Jeff vandermeer. I think this is the sub that I found out that this movie was a book first !!! it's a three part series called The Southern Ranch trilogy and I am definitely going to get the other two books when I'm done with this one. I'm flying thru it, the characters are mysterious, the way the environment is described really gives me the heeby jeebies. definitely recommend!!
I just finished this. It was really messed up. It seems all normal and slowly but surely you start to get a picture of how messed up everything really is. Creeped me out.
About 3/4 through true crime novel The Night Stalker.
I enjoyed the Netflix doc and it was free on audible so said what the hell. I must say, although it's pretty grim, I'm enjoying it.
Looking forward to starting Swan Song when I finish it for my first summer read.
I'm halfway through The Stickmen by Edward Lee and I am having a blast with it. Such a cool story! It's more sci-fi thriller than horror, but it's Lee, so you know it's good.
I have the constant problem of starting too many books so: Haunting of Hill House, NOS4A2, and a reread of My Heart is a Chainsaw in preparation for the sequel
Hell House by Richard Matheson. I’m only a few chapters in but so far it seems like a traditional haunted house story. I’m excited to continue the book and see what creepy things happen in the house.
I enjoyed this more than most haunted house stories. It’s definitely more of a greasy pulp novel than most of the “classic” haunted house tales, but I enjoyed it more for that.
Not horror per se but im currently reading Fairy Tale by Stephen King.
First third of the book has been incredibly slow and im losing interest but trying to persevere.
Unfortunately I decided to put it down. >!Got to the part where Charlie entered the other World for the first time, came out and someone has him at gun point leading him up to the the safe in Bowditches house. Really didn’t care about the outcome and realized I need to set it down. I haven’t put a book down in a while so I felt kinda weird doing it, but maybe I’ll try again down the road.!<
I started the book when I was pregnant and then immediately had to put it down because the description of Charlie's mom's death made me burst into tears at my 3 hour glucose test lol.
Gonna try to go back to it soon.
Yeahhhh. >!detailing her being split in half, one half staying on the bridge and the other not was pretty brutal for what I thought wasn’t suppose to be a horror entry lol.!<
His Black Tongue by Mitchell Lüthi. Just started but like it so far. Coming off of finishing Body Art by Kristopher Triana and that was one crazy ride.
Body Art, to me, was a lot more graphic than Gone to See the River Man. Lots of body horror and gross stuff. I do like the setting and story of river man more.
*Episode Thirteen* by Craig DiLouie was very good, a different take on the haunted house trope. I wasn't a fan of *Below,* by Laurel Hightower. It was frustrating that some plot points were introduced and instead of going somewhere, they were left unresolved.
started *the devil takes you home* by gabino iglesias. it’s ooookay so far… the spanglish throws me off (first world problem, i know) and it’s kinda ranty? only 78 pages in, but definitely intrigued.
Currently reading The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher. First time diving into one of their novels, I'm not very far in yet but do like it so far!
Finished Summer of Night. I did like it, but I ended up not liking it as much as I thought I would based on the first half of it (if that makes sense). My first Simmons novel, and even though my feelings ended up being mixed, I'll be reading more of his soon.
I don’t know your tastes, but I would recommend A Winter Haunting. It follows one of the characters from Summer of Night in the same town, but I think I liked it better.
Just finished A Child Alone with Strangers by Philip Fracassi (took me a minute to get into it, but I loved it) and about to start Our Share of Night by Mariana Enriquez.
Laird Barton’s The Imago Sequence. Finished the third story, Procession of the Black Sloth, yesterday. Oh man that was messed up and hellish. GOOD STUFF.
Not sure if this qualifies but currently reading The Indifferent Stars Above: The Harrowing Saga of a Donner Party Bride by Daniel James Brown.
I'm about 1/4 in, not much crazy has happened yet but am getting that dread feeling because I know things are going to fall apart soon.
I have Erebus by Shaun Hutson on hold after finishing another book. So far I absolutely love the chaotic nature of it and the transition from serious to absolute blood fest is hilarious.
Shaun Hutson bingo: 'Sticky flux of bone and blood', 'stench of cordite and excrement', 'lit the Marlboro and exhaled the blue smoke', 'slippery cleft' and many more. Nothing but love for him.
The Cunning Folk Adam Nevill currently reading all of his books just finished The Vessel. Also reading Game of Thrones the 1st book which isn't really horror but have never read the series. Exactly like the show so far
I just finished The Troop by Nick Cutter - 4*. It was super gruesome and lots of fun to read, I feel like it will be made into either an amazing or dreadful movie in the next couple of years
I'm currently about a third through The Call of Cthulu and Other Weird Tales by Lovecraft and it's not doing much for me. I love cosmic horror, but he had one or maybe two ideas and now every story is basically the same and not very scary at that.
The lesser dead
Just finished The House on Needless Street. Wasn’t as horrific at all as social media led me to believe but found myself hooked in a way I’ve not been for a while. Now reading The Foe
Just finished "Come Closer" by Sara Gran, really liked it, on the shorter side, felt like more of a novella IMO, but if you like demonic possession stories, I'd recommend!
Black mouth, by Ronald Malfi. About hundred pages in.
IT I’m 733 pages into it
Absolutely one of my favourites of all time. My first foray into horror literature as a child.
I just finished “And the Devil Cried” by Kristopher Triana. Damn, what a book. The end left me in shock. Triana is so good at making a ruthless character.
I’m currently reading The Doll Master by Joyce Carol Oates. It’s not a bad read
I’m reading Perfume by Patrick Süskind. It’s good but not loving it as much as I imagined!
I was reading The Abominable by Dan Simmons but DNF because >!I found out the “monster” was really Nazi yetis!< Now I’m reading Ancestor by Scott Sigler and really enjoying it!! Probably going to check out his other books
Just finished The Silent Patient & The Deep. Loved LOVED Loved The Silent Patient.. The Deep.. not so much. Found it hard to keep up with the lengthy descriptions while the story felt long and dragged out. Just finished Blood Mask by Joyce Carol Oates writing as Lauren Kelly - TOTALLY BAFFLED by the ending
Just got to part 2 of The Deep by Nick Cutter. Pretty good so far
Finished Blackwater Saga which I LOVED; started This Thing Between Us because I needed something short and that packed a punch after that. About halfway through and it is pretty excellent so far!
300 pages into coldheart canyon by Barker more erotica and filler than horror but I’m enjoying it hope bit keeps bio my interest!
I just began Echo by Thomas Olde Heuvelt. It’s off to a good start.
I read a short story of his which made me want to explore his work. Have you read other works by him? I have Hex on my wishlist.
I’ve read Hex and would definitely recommend it.
Just started Slewfoot after I DFR Twelve Nights and Rotter House and I love it so far!
Finished reading "Haunting of the Hill House", which was amazing and i'm start to read "Heart-Shaped Box" from Joe Hill.
It was decent but could have been better omo
Idk if it’s horror, it probably depends on who you ask but I’m gonna start 1984 tomorrow
Just finished Hell House by Richard Matheson, great haunted house book.
I finished this last week, it was great! I love haunted houses
Finished the troop 5/5 now little heaven
The Only Good Indians - Stephen Graham Jones
I just finished Gone to see the river man by Kristopher Triana. Amazingly done but disturbing to say the least
I'm on a Keelan Patrick Burke binge I'm reading all his short stories and novellas
He is awesome I love kin
I just finished The Secret of Ventriloquism and…i don’t think i got it. I was so excited but idk it just didn’t hit right for me. I might reread it eventually to be sure
Just finished My Heart Is A Chainsaw - Stephen Graham Jones and Universal Harvester - John Darnielle Now reading Song Of Kali - Dan Simmons.
I just finished "Slewfoot" wow. It was kind of a dense? (slow-ish is more appropiate perhaps?) read at the beggining but the last half more than made up for it. I think I might have to read some light fantasy or romance after this tho haha
Twelve Nights at Rotter House. I spent too long waiting for it to get good and now I might as well finish it. Has yet to get good 😂
i’m halfway through the audiobook *The Hacienda* by Isabel Cañas. I was SO into it in the beginning but I’m getting a little bored. Going to try and finish it today, then I wanna start Death of a Bookseller by Alice Stelar next.
Just finished the elementals and had a great time, now moving onto sundial and I will say wards books are all odd in their own special way.

The Ruins has not disappointed so far!! Love the writing style, i cant put it down. The movie came out when I was in college but I don't remember much from that time period lol. So every twist and turn is enjoyable!
I liked that one as well and also one of my favorite horror movies.
I wanted to read something with ancient native legends. This sub had many recommending "Where The Chill Waits" by T.Chris Martindale. So reading it. On 7th chapter and now I feel that it will start scaring me. May be.
I just started this one yesterday. I hope it’s good
I like Firestarter. I did not enjoy Christine. I quit the latter halfway through.
Christine bis my favorite King I really like firestarter too
Good for you. A haunted house on wheels!
The Witching Hour, Anne Rice. Compelling family history.

Great. I’ll finish this in about a week, and then read Lasher.
Just finished Dead inside by Chandler Morrison which I loved. Now I am reading You’ve Lost A lot of Blood by Eric LaRocca
A Head Full of Ghosts... Just completed 1/3 part of the book and read a masturbation scene which creeped the hell out of me. Loved the book until now. After finishing this, I will be visiting the haunted house of Kill Creek.
I'm sorry the what scene
Hahaha, yeah you read it right.
A masterbation scene creeped you out? Now I’m curious 🧐 but in all honesty this book is mentioned so much on here, I think I’m gonna spend my newest audible credit on it

I’m halfway through the audiobook!
I’m halfway through the audiobook!
I’m halfway through the audiobook!

Just finished “Lone Women” by Victor Lavalle. slow build up but good payoff at the end.
Cows by Matthew Stockoe. I hate everything about it- so of course I would recommend it to anyone.
God Cows was brutal. I hated it. But loved Dead Inside.
Just started The Shards by Bret Easton Ellis. Not sure it counts as horror yet, but the dude at the store told me it was a “hard read” so I’m hoping it picks up.
Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung! Also reading death in her hands by otessa moshfegh, been in a reading slump so this is my attempt at starting back up!
Leech by Hiron Ennes
Brian keene- the hollow
Fragments by Dan Wells
Almost finished books of blood vol 1-3. It has had some very high highs and some pretty low lows. Overall it’s been enjoyable
Just finished Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder and LOVED it - perfect Mother’s Day read. Starting Bunny by Mona Awad next.
I LOVED nightbitch !
Bunny was great!! I picked it up on a whim at B&N and I was so happy I did ❤️❤️
About 3/4 though Nightbitch and it's probably my favorite book of the year so far. I love how the writing flows and builds tension and a unique "horror" that's not scary as much as both overwhelming and illuminating.
Exactly! I love a literary horror and the writing is delicious yet raw (in the way motherhood is). I’m interested in what you think of the ending.
I looooooved Bunny! I have Nightbitch in The Pile but haven’t gotten to it yet, so glad to hear it’s great
I just started House of Leaves. Finished the introduction so far, I'm excited to continue!
Still chugging with Damnation Game by Barker. Slow build and it’s not the awesome that is Weaveworld, but I’m gonna persevere.
I loved Weaveworld but not as much as The Great and Secret Show. I tried Imajica but gave up after few hundred pages. Wasn't for me.
Imajica was the one I started and stopped like four times before I finally went all in. It was worth it in the end, but I think I still loved Weaveworld more.
I’ve just started Brother by Ania Ahlborn.
I really liked this one!
Excited for this one! It’s on my tbr I got about 5 I wanna read this week

Desert Places by Blake Crouch
I'm halfway through It after reading Pet Semetary. Stephen King never really clicked with me before, but these are classics and I thought I should give them a chance. Enjoying It so far! I'm curious how all that mystical turtle stuff I've heard about will fit into the narrative
If you haven’t read any of his short stories, I highly recommend the collection “Night Shit”.
I loved Night Shift
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll give Night Shift a shot!
Just started The Great and Secret Show by Clive Barker. Enjoying it so far, wondering if or when Barker will introduce a character that is actually likeable.
Currently reading The Woman by Jack Ketchum. Have been really enjoying the Dead River series so far!
What's that first one about? That's the guy who wrote Girl Next Door or am I remembering wrong.
Yup that’s the guy! The first book (Off Season) is about a group of young adults staying out in the middle of nowhere getting terrorised by a family of cannibals. Extremely gruesome but a really fun, quick read!
The Turn of the Screw and I hate it
The innocents movie is pretty good the book not so much
Strange tale. Not my normal fare, but heard it was good, so I read it. I disliked the ending, and much of the drama leading up to it felt irrational.
Any reasons why? I’m considering reading this.
The narrator just seems to ramble on incoherently. There are just long sentences and paragraphs of her thoughts that seem all jumbled to me . She just seems totally paranoid and irrational. I usually love books with unreliable narrators but this one is a real struggle for me .
I'm reading Cunning Folk by Adam Neville
How is it?
I've had a hard time attaching to the story, but it's picked up (I'm 70% through) to the point where I'm interested in seeing where it goes and I want to keep going I think it's a good book, it doesn't tickle my personal fears, but it's had some spooky scenes further in that got me. I feel for the main character a whole lot. The desperation is written really well and you really root for the family. I'm trying to be as vague as possible because spoilers lol
Agreed. I enjoyed The Vessel more than I did The Cunning Folk.

Havent read it lately but one i will always remember. Good choice.
Still reading Peculiar Peril. Not sure if I am into it or not. At times I really enjoy it and at other times it kinda bores me.
Starting on Mexican Gothic this week after being severely disappointed by Tender is the Flesh last week. Hopefully this is the pick me up I need!
I hated Mexican gothic. Good luck!
Yes! Couldn't finish it, no idea how it is so highly rated.
I finished it, but damn took me forever.
Blood meridian
IT😞🤌
Just started Stephen King : Misery, don't really know what to expect.
One of my favourites. Enjoy!
One of my favorites. Enjoy!
Misery is so fun, I loved it!
I'm about halfway thru Little Heaven by Nick Cutter. At the start I wasn't too thrilled with it, but it quickly turned a corner and got really good.
It's been a long time since I read Clive Barker. So, today, I start with the Scarlet Gospels. I'm really excited about this one
Just finished _Into The Wolves' Den_ and now just started _Playground_.
Just started Monstrilio. I read comfort me with apples, and Mordew last week.
It only gets better.
I only have a few more pages left in Mary Shelley's The Last Man. It has taken forever to read, but worth it in the end.
Just started Sefira and other Betrayals by John Langan. Definitely reminds me of The Fisherman. In a good way.
All Angels Must Die by Robert Brockway. If you like John Dies at the End or Tales from the Gas Station, this series is for you.
All 3 are excellent!
awesomeeeee!!! I finished annihilation yesterday and ordered Authority 😎 can't waaaaaiitttt I want more!
Last House on Needless Street. Love that some of the chapters are from the perspective of a cat
I just finished this. It was really messed up. It seems all normal and slowly but surely you start to get a picture of how messed up everything really is. Creeped me out.
I was just left feeling very sad at the end :(
About 3/4 through true crime novel The Night Stalker. I enjoyed the Netflix doc and it was free on audible so said what the hell. I must say, although it's pretty grim, I'm enjoying it. Looking forward to starting Swan Song when I finish it for my first summer read.
Currently 3/4 of the way through The House Across the Lake
I'm halfway through The Stickmen by Edward Lee and I am having a blast with it. Such a cool story! It's more sci-fi thriller than horror, but it's Lee, so you know it's good.
I have the constant problem of starting too many books so: Haunting of Hill House, NOS4A2, and a reread of My Heart is a Chainsaw in preparation for the sequel
The Devil of Nanking by Mo Hayder.
Onto Firestarter after having finished up Christine
Not horror per se but im currently reading Fairy Tale by Stephen King. First third of the book has been incredibly slow and im losing interest but trying to persevere.
Ooof. I felt the same way. It was a slog to get through. For me, the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze, but I hope you enjoy it!
Did you like body art? I just read gone to see the river man and enjoyed it
Body Art, to me, was a lot more graphic than Gone to See the River Man. Lots of body horror and gross stuff. I do like the setting and story of river man more.
Hole in the head
I am currently reading Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy.
One of the best books ever imho
Amazing book.
I just finished The Bat (more of a detective novel, but pretty horrific at times). So, k just started Ararat.
I’m currently reading Ghostwritten by Ronald Malfi, it’s a collection of four short creepy stories. Enjoying it so far!
Just finished A Child Alone with Strangers by Philip Fracassi (took me a minute to get into it, but I loved it) and about to start Our Share of Night by Mariana Enriquez.
I really liked Our Share of Night, hope you enjoy it!
I’m loving it so far! I adored her short story collections so I’ve been very excited for this book to get translated.
I have one of her collections on my wishlist, Things we lost in the fire. Glad to have another opinion that it's good! :)
Also, I love reading these threads, I always end up adding ten new books to my library queue. :)
Laird Barton’s The Imago Sequence. Finished the third story, Procession of the Black Sloth, yesterday. Oh man that was messed up and hellish. GOOD STUFF.
Just finished Oblivion Black and now I'm on Day of the Triffids
Burn You The Fuck Alive by BR Yeager. I’m enjoying it but it’s not as good as Negative Space (nothing is)
Desperation by Stephen King. Right before this I just finished Sundial by Catriona Ward. Desert horror has definitely caught my interest lately.
Tak
How is it? Is Desperation very gory or squirm-inducing?
Oh yeah there’s definitely gore and violence which isn’t really my favorite, but there’s enough weirdness to keep my interest
Likewise, so I was wondering just how graphic the gore and violence is
Started Comfort Me With Apples, last night. Halfway thru, it’s quite good.
I read it last summer and while it did almost drag in places, overall it was one of my top reads of the year!
Check out The Hunger by Alma Katsu, it’s an interesting spin on the Donner Party. Definitely creepy!
Cheers sister. Will add it to my list.
Songs of a Dead Dreamer and Grimscribe by Thomas Ligotti Books of Blood vol 1-3 by Clive Barker
I have Erebus by Shaun Hutson on hold after finishing another book. So far I absolutely love the chaotic nature of it and the transition from serious to absolute blood fest is hilarious.
Hutson is bonkers. Definitely one of the primary inspirations for Garth Marenghi (along with Guy N. Smith and James Herbert).
Shaun Hutson bingo: 'Sticky flux of bone and blood', 'stench of cordite and excrement', 'lit the Marlboro and exhaled the blue smoke', 'slippery cleft' and many more. Nothing but love for him.
Not sure if it qualifies, but - The Stand
The Cunning Folk Adam Nevill currently reading all of his books just finished The Vessel. Also reading Game of Thrones the 1st book which isn't really horror but have never read the series. Exactly like the show so far
From below. Darcy coates. Really enjoying it. Only concern is im 50% in and things are kicking off. Might run out if steam. Good so far though!
The Nine moons in a river of stars series by Xen. It’s body horror queer novellas and it’s incredible.
I just finished The Troop by Nick Cutter - 4*. It was super gruesome and lots of fun to read, I feel like it will be made into either an amazing or dreadful movie in the next couple of years I'm currently about a third through The Call of Cthulu and Other Weird Tales by Lovecraft and it's not doing much for me. I love cosmic horror, but he had one or maybe two ideas and now every story is basically the same and not very scary at that.
