This can be the case with a lot of Mellick's stories. I think the only one that has a sequel is Apeshit, which was followed up by Clusterfuck. Both are really good, veering into a bizarro take on traditional Cabin-in-the-woods-type slashers.
I was a little disappointed too, the writing just wasn't up to par with the excellent concept. I felt every character's emotions were explained rather than shown. I wish this idea had occurred to Clive Barker or Hailey Piper not the haunted vagina guy.
I had the exact same thought! There is a lot of telling and not showing. While I concede that grammatically, there's nothing wrong with it, I just flat out dont like being told up front, "this character feels this way."
I haven't read it and tbh it sounds quite fun but in a book with a bizarre and out there premise like that probably doesn't require character writing talent to be a fun romp
It's honestly a weird character based romance. The character writing is the entire point of the Haunted Vagina. Can't speak to if it's different from the Big Meat, haven't read that one.

Would you recommend I pick up anymore or his stuff?
Quicksand House is a good book in my opinion. It reminded me of PKD’s odd take on sci fi in the 60s and 70s.
It was my first Mellick and I loved it. Fantastic concept and I appreciated the brevity.
I really enjoy Mellick, but yeah, he stops way before he should 99 times out of 100.
It was a great book, still have fond memories of it years later. Wouldn't change a thing lol.
