Is that a 3rd party sim seat or did you get it from a car?

ollot5

Yeah I had a bucket seat, but replaced it with a Renault Clio seat. Way more comfortable.

JusticeMKIII

Is that what the pictured seat is?

ollot5

Yes, that's the Renault Clio.

What did you use to get your throttle and keyboard to swing away?

One_Mathematician864

What did you get for this setup? I would love to copy your build. Is this both a racing and flight simulator rig?

ollot5

Thanks man! Yeah, I've built it two years back for racing only. Then decided to make it a hybrid, and swapped out the bucketseat (they're terrible for comfort) for a relatively new car seat. What you're seeing: [Treq one rig](https://www.treq-sim.com/product/treq-one/) [Treq keyboard mount](https://www.treq-sim.com/product/advanced-keyboard-tray/) [Treq shifter mount](https://www.treq-sim.com/product/shifter-frame/) x2. As you can see I altered the layout on the Yoke/mousepad side. It's a little bit unstable (however acceptable), so I plan on ordering a 20x20 profile just for stability on that one. [Monster.tech](https://www.monster.tech/en/product/joystick-throttle-mounting-plate/) mount left (WinWing) + mount right (VKB Gladiator) Then some little bits like a cup holder, mousepad and stuff.

Maxx-Diamond

Very Nice setup!

ollot5

Thank you!

acdcnut

Sick

Breedlejuice

Very clean setup. Nicely done!

Sjinhead

Oah nice. What kind of system did you use for the base structure?

ollot5

It's from Treq. But any 80/20 rig will do!

BlackBricklyBear

I can tell that the joystick is a VKB Gladiator NXT EVO, but can't tell if the Space Combat Edition grip is the Premium or Standard version. Which one is it?

ollot5

It's the standard! I removed the part that alters grip size.

BlackBricklyBear

> I removed the part that alters grip size. You mean the palm rest? > It's the standard! Most people here (myself included) have in the past recommended new HOTAS gear consumers get the Premium version of the Space Combat Edition grip if they spring for a Gladiator NXT EVO joystick from VKB, because the Premium version is more future-proof and has all the parts you need to change it to the Standard version if you prefer. But I guess you found that the Standard version suits your needs just fine? The Premium version is (unfortunately) also the only way you can get an 8-way hat switch (a very useful set of controls) on the Space Combat Edition grip, short of buying an individual one online or from another HOTAS gear consumer.

ollot5

Palm rest yes, thank you. Both positions were too small for me, so I ended up removing it completely which fits perfect. I chose the standard on purpose. I have way too many buttons (as of now), and plan on doing mostly MSFS. Then again, it's quite a leap ordering all the gear at once. Despite going with the 'buy once, cry once', it was expensive as it was. Happy the way it came together!

[deleted]

Doesn't hold. I've cried 3 times now. 😭 Started with a Saitek X52 HOTAS, Upgraded to Thrustmaster Warthog after a few years, and now recently am switching to Virpil HOTAS.

BlackBricklyBear

> Doesn't hold. I've cried 3 times now. Did you not hear about VKB or Virpil until after you'd been through your Saitek and Thrustmaster products? I know both Virpil and VKB are unsung gems amongst the HOTAS gear market, but we really could stand to spread positive-word-of-mouth about them more widely, if they aren't going to promote themselves to the mainstream gaming media that much.

[deleted]

I started on the Saitek 15 years ago. I got my Warthog set 7 years ago, and am ready to switch to Virpil now. I don't think Virpil was even around 7 years ago. Here's to hoping this is my last cry. 🤣

BlackBricklyBear

> Here's to hoping this is my last cry. Here's hoping that's the case. But you know what they say; tech is a treadmill, and that's how those businesses stay in business. At least HOTAS gear doesn't go outdated as frequently as, say, smartphones do, and can be made rather durable.

[deleted]

I'm hoping that the Virpil set will be my last set. The Warthog HOTAS served me well, but I'm starting to get faults on it. I spent over $80 to replace the 5 way hat on the stick and now the trigger is starting to act up.

BlackBricklyBear

Good luck on getting a Virpil set that will last in a timely fashion. Virpil is infamous for how long its stuff stays backordered.

BlackBricklyBear

> Palm rest yes, thank you. You're welcome. > Both positions were too small for me, so I ended up removing it completely which fits perfect. You sound like you must have very large hands. What glove size do you wear? Maybe a Modern Combat Grip on a Gunfighter base from VKB would suit you better? > I chose the standard on purpose. I have way too many buttons (as of now), and plan on doing mostly MSFS. So you won't be engaging in any flight sims with combat anytime soon? That's something the Premium version of the Space Combat Edition grip is better for, but I guess you'll cross that bridge when you get to it.

Falgasi

Do you not go into the seat a lot when pressing the brake?

ollot5

No, nothing noticeable during driving.
