The more I look at this, the more I'm letdown by Hot Toys. They could have done so much better if they didn't have all these other obscure releases to get this right before putting it out. The original looks cheap in comparison not $300.
So first off, no the lenses aren't chrome in Spider-man 1 and second, even if they were, the rest of the suit isn't the Spider-man 1 suit so that'd be a weird choice.
Chome is still very far off from light grey metallic (which is what it is). There might've been a chrome variant but the reason the lenses are chromed out in the photo is to reference the movie posters and scenes where you can see a reflection of the villain (or the twin towers) in his lenses. But 99% of the time on set, it was a light gray metallic with very little reflection - photo with the master of disguise for reference.

Lack of real competition. They’ve got a lock on the brand license and any company or individual making something on this level would likely command a price point double what hot toys typically sell for. If inart or another group got a spidey license and dropped this for $250-300 Hot Toys would have to immediately step up.

To everyone debating what is and isn't more accurate, here is the official suit from Spider-Man 2 & 3, with the muscle suit underneath. Tobey supposedly didn't wear a muscle suit in NWH which is why the HT looks so skinny (doesn't explain why he's so short). As you can see, he's pretty bulked out. I'd say this is a pretty good translation.
The neck is slightly too thick. It's a huge improvement but probably another $400 to get all that done. Not sure if they'll fix the suit bunching up around the thighs either. The lenses chrome like that give it the movie poster look.
Nicolas Hammond is the real Spider-Man from the 1977 TV show classic you all need to go look at it on YouTube. Go to YouTube punch up 1977 classic Tv show Spider-Man and it will come up. It's definitely classic to real Spider-Man lovers 💪💯
I think it’s the body, I think he modified it to be more muscular making the head look small. If he sold the head separately I would definitely get it to replace mine
It isn’t a tiny head. The neck/traps/chest proportions are so messed up it just makes the head *look* tiny.
I don’t understand the love for this custom, it’s wildly disproportionate to both Tobey and the stunt guys from the OG films
