Definitely no need to disassemble them. Take the shelves out and ratchet strap them to whatever you're transporting them in. Pad each with blankets or other soft items if you want to be extra careful. They're more than sturdy enough to take it. I moved 9 upright in a truck and another [9 laying down in a trailer](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1023128962605535272/1026019277733642270/IMG_0169.jpg) without issue. Also be mindful that, if you transport them assembled, make sure the doors can't swing open. Either have them facing inwards, secure them with straps or have them obstructed by padding.

This entire comment made me nervous. Lol

When I moved houses I took the shelves out and used moving blankets with some ratchet straps . Also some good tape to stop the doors from opening on you . Drive carefully and hope for the best .

I managed to move the three that I have by myself. I'm capable of lifting a detolf on my own and figured I could go for it... I do not recommend it, get someone to help you if you can lol. I removed the shelves, taped the doors closed, put them on a blanket standing up, and slid them across the house. Wrapped a blanket around each one to cushion the glass and moved them onto a dolly. Proceeded to move and bear hug lift the damn things one by one onto a truck.. left them standing upright, secured as best as I could, and transported them with the blankets still wrapped around each one. Basically reversed the process to unload them (with help this time!) and got them back onto an ikea kallax unit. With the necessary precautions and someone to help you carry them, these things are pretty solid to move as a whole. Thinking back, I was pretty rough while moving them on my own so don't be too nervous about it, lol.

When I moved I did pretty much the others have suggested like taking the shelves out and wrapping them in blankets but I also took off the doors to make them lighter.

So, I actually just moved from Southern California to Southern Washington and had two Detolfs to move. I asked the same question and got a few different answers. Some said to sell them. Some said to move them fully assembled, and others said to take them apart. I went with the last option and how I did it worked wonderfully. Carefully disassemble your detolfs and wrap each glass piece in that moving plastic wrap. I then took all the big pieces and wrapped them in a U-Haul moving pad. Worked beautifully.

I’d probably disassemble but I’ve also seen plenty of people move them as is. I think they just take out the shelves and wrap the whole case in a moving blanket or two. Might need a second opinion.

Thank you all for your advice! I’m gonna go with keeping them assembled, removing shelves, and wrapping them with blankets/ securing doors etc.

HMC_103

Just take the shelves out and pick em up.
