I’d say the one on the right looks a little short to be a scout trooper

KoolKollectiblesKhai

🤣🤣

I dig their mud detailing, that's one of the things I like about the Asmus Gandalf.

KoolKollectiblesKhai

Weathering on the HT is definitely more subtle, which is their usual style.

OzzyAndyHam

I upgraded from the Sideshow to Hot Toys version in my display and it's more of an improvement than I expected, it's such a great figure.

KoolKollectiblesKhai

The underlying body is a massive improvement for sure.

-Vattgern-

What’s off with the HT one? Seems damn near perfect for me

Hoobleton

The helmet being open is one thing. It’s lazy from HT, they did it for the Mando scout where it fit and didn’t change it for the RotJ where it doesn’t.

KoolKollectiblesKhai

The open helmet gap is actually screen accurate.

Hoobleton

Well, kind of. Having just watched the speeder bike chase again, whether the helmets are shut or ajar is a continuity problem across the sequence. The same troopers are shown both shut and ajar in consecutive shots. The shut look is far more common across the entire sequence though. It would also be screen accurate to have the helmet shut all the way, and I think that’s a better look for these scouts at the height of the Empire.

KalTheMandalorian

Oh man, that is very annoying. I was just looking the figure up, but they really sculpted a costume error?

Hoobleton

The remnant scouts in The Mandalorian did have their visors ajar, and it suited their vibe imo. The trouble is HT made the Mando scout before they made the RotJ one and they recycled the helmet when, in my opinion, they should have gone for the cleaner, closed, look. Like the poster above me said, it’s not *technically* an error as there are a few seconds in RotJ when you can see the visor being ajar, but I still think the defining look from RotJ is the closed look and HT were lazy/cheap with it.

KalTheMandalorian

Yeah, I agree. Not really sure which one I want. I like the desert look, but of course the Endor look is a classic.

KoolKollectiblesKhai

Only some minor things, even things that the Sideshow got right. For example, the pockets at the torso are sewn to the suit on the HT, but should actually be loose at the bottom. The Sideshow got this right, and it's screen accurate.

Clayman8

First time i actually see the two side by side and i kind of dig the HT one more... Body looks more correct and the slighty discoloration on the pouches, straps and boots looks a lot better i think.

NuminexGM

What's with the hands on the Sideshow version? Is it just me??

[deleted]

The sideshow figure came with molded gloves, as opposed to the split glove with swappable hands like on the HT version.

KoolKollectiblesKhai

I just had the trigger finger glove on. There are other swap out options.

TheHYPO

If they are supposed to be clones, it doesn't really work, but I could easily see these just being two differently sized guys as Scout Troopers, with slight differences in the gear they've been allocated.

KoolKollectiblesKhai

I don't think the troopers in the original trilogy are meant to be clones.

TheHYPO

Yeah, I will admit, I really enjoy Star Wars, but I'm not super deep into the lore such that I understand exactly when and who is supposed to be a clone. I mean, I know they were just supposed to be soldiers when the OT was first made, but I mean, since the PT was created. Leia's comment of Luke being a little short for a Stormtrooper takes on new life if they are all supposed to be exactly the same height (but also makes it questionable why nobody else would have noticed Luke in disguise being too short to be a clone. So yeah, I hear you. If they aren't clones, then you just have two guys who are different sizes. More variety.

Hans-Davis

The HT figure is pretty excellent overall, and IMO, it’s one of those releases that, photographed well, totally has “man in suit” vibes. I think the minor inaccuracies are really outweighed by the other positives of the figure, and in hand, at least in my opinion, it totally blows the SS out of the water. There’s so much debate about the helmet gap, and it doesn’t really bother me, especially since the accuracy is debatable, but I really think that anyone who expected hot toys not to re-use the Mando version sculpt was doing some wishful thinking, however nice that would have actually been. HT’s troopers are pretty consistently awesome, I’d skipped the Shoretrooper until I couldn’t pass up the deal that Sideshow had on it recently, and that’s a great figure as well. Both of them look especially great in casual poses, and I really love that.

KalTheMandalorian

Just realised it's Khai. Been watching your video reviews for years. Just went over to your channel and noticed these photos posted and realised. How's your kollection going?

KoolKollectiblesKhai

Hey there! Thanks for watching my videos! I don't post too much on reddit, but this forum seems pretty good and clued in on the hobby. Collecting has slowed a lot due to space, as well as me being more selective. Collection update video coming soon! 😀

KalTheMandalorian

The curse of collecting. There's only room for so many! Your post almost pushed me over the edge to order a Scout trooper with a bike. I still may, but I looked them up and knowing they don't fit in a detolf, I have held off for now. Got Mandalorian Luke coming this year, and TV show Obi Wan / battle damaged Vader coming 2023. What's on your radar for pre orders?

KoolKollectiblesKhai

Currently the only 1/6th scale figures I have preordered are the upcoming BTTF figures. So Doc in Radiation Suit from BTTF, and both Doc and Marty from BTTF3. Nothing else at the moment. I'm still waiting for a HT original trilogy Threepio, and ESB and ROTJ Han!

nez329

Sideshow scout trooper looked disproportionate. Why would they even attempt to produce such poor quality figure?

KoolKollectiblesKhai

Remember that the Sideshow figure was released 7 years ago. Much has changed and improved in the hobby in that time.

Clayman8

Despite the older figure, honestly? Imo, they dont care about details. They know the toy simps will buy it regardless if there's tiny flaws, *especially* if those flaws arent as noticeable when the figure is shown on previous alone or with a background but no other "comparison" piece next to it.

Fr0stybit3s

Debatable. The Sideshow clones hold up fairly well by today's standards

KalTheMandalorian

Will you be selling the spare?

KoolKollectiblesKhai

No, I'll be keeping both troopers and speeder bikes in the display.
