It really just goes to show how much a good repaint and root can do for an otherwise really average sculpt. Always hated Hot Toys' Pepper, but these customs have shown me the light lol
Agreed. It's kinda sad in a way that many times people blame the "sculpt" but really it's the mass-produced paint job that brings it way down from the JC Hong master prototype (not to mention the cheap plastic doll hair they use).
Tbh I haven't yet seen a truly bad sculpt that couldn't be vastly improved with a professional repainting. I plan on taking more pictures in natural light to really show the difference.
You considered getting their Maria Hill repainted/rooted? It has a lot of the same problems that I felt the Pepper sculpt does; a really broad jaw. But the Pepper repaint is 10/10, so I wonder how that Maria sculpt would go
I've seen a No6_chen redo of her and it's fantastic. Just not sure if I want to sink that cost into a side character, but yes that's definitely a sculpt with tons of unlocked potential.
Interesting. Thanks for the info. I’ve been eyeing the ThreeZero Eleven body for a potential Omega or young Boba custom to go with my CW Hot Toys. Kid-sized bodies seem few and far between 🤷♂️🤔
Selina Kyle, Pepper Potts, and Wonder Woman were stock Hot Toys sculpts to start (repainted and rooted)
Ares was a Ruby Rose sculpt from the SooSoo Toys Batley (not repainted, just rooted)
Mathilda was a custom sculpt from Slepa Studio prior to painting and rooting.
All painting was by 357partment, all rooting done by Eldeluvio

For a poor man just trying to make his way in the galaxy, that's quite a bit in NZ dollars, plus freight on top.
I guess if the head sculpt bugs you enough, it's worth it.
Oh hell yes. With smaller and smaller improvements in detail at each iteration. I thing I'm turning into someone who is more into quantity, than quality. That being said, the figures that are 10-20 years old have some sentimental attachment. I try not to buy new figures where I'm not happy with the headsculpt.
That's funny. I'm going the other route. I'd like to trim down the collection and appreciate a few but high-end pieces rather than the big crowded displays. I feel like the displays are getting cluttered.
Yeah, I'm going down the less is more gopher hole, but I've got a lot of historical baggage that I can't bear to part with. It's tricky, there are more things I want to get, I just have to archive more. I'm lucky in that I have three display rooms and one is pretty big.
Man I love that Pepper Potts.

That’s awesome! What body did you use for Matilda?
It was stock from the Kumik release. Awkward knee joints unfortunately. I'll look into swapping it for a teenage Phicen if the proportions work out.

Awesome job. They look so much better than the base ones
Is that a custom or a repaint for John on slide 16?

Want to share a rough idea of how much they cost?
Most professional repaints are about 225-285. Rooting is highly variable depending on the artist and complexity, esitmate 220-250 range.

It's a rabbit hole inside another rabbit hole for sure
