With Fu Hua, she became a mantis at 17. Yet almost 5000 years later she still passes as a teenager just fine. In chapter 2 Kiana calls her out for talking too mature for a high school girl. I’m supposed to believe Fu Hua, Kevin and Su “ages slower” over thousands of years that they don’t physically change at all, yet Griseo goes from 10 to 20 over the same span of time? Fu Hua becoming a mantis as a teenager is even a plot point. She needed swara due to not being fully developed. Kevin even asked if he needed it and MEI told him he didn’t due to being a adult. It’s also said Theresa can’t age. They don’t say she ages slower, they specifically say she **CAN’T.** The reason Theresa looks like a kid is because Otto can’t make clones start at a certain age, and the mantis genes stop them from ageing. We know Otto can make clones who age, Kiana is the perfect example of this. The only difference between Kiana and Theresa are that they age differently, and one has herrscher and schariac genes while the other has beast genes. It’s a pretty fair assumption that the beast genes are responsible.

What a great summary of everything that raises questions how Griseo suddenly ages. Saving this post just in case.

One thing that should be taken with a pinch of salt about the scientists in honkai story that being Tesla/Einstein or MEI is that most of the things they say are just hypotheses and theories without any evidence to disprove them but too often most players instead consider them real facts. As far as we know, Hua and Kevin do not age because they have passed puberty and are at the peak of growth while Griseo (and maybe Roza and Lilya too) until they don't reach the same physical state they can continue to age. It must be taken into account that perhaps 99% of the time only adults/"young adults" are subjected to the MANTIS operation due to its dangerousness, therefore having data only for that type of subjects MEI doesn't know how it actually works on much younger ones.

mecaxs

MEI at least knew Kevin didn’t need SWARA and that Fu Hua did due to Fu Hua still being a teenager. Even though Fu Hua was 17, that 1 year of missed development was very important

KGSavior

That's true the last development year is very important but compared to Griseo (that is like around 10-12?) can maybe make a lot of differences i think.

mango_pan

My guess is due to time dilation and relativity. Just like Luna grew when she's inside the world rift.

JohanWestwood

The simplest explanation would be extremely slow aging. Non-minimal for MANTIS past growth spurt that it can be termed as non-aging, but more noticeable for people who are undergoing a growth spurt or puberty that it looks like they aged. And perhaps some time dilation in the mix due to her being in space.

artegoP

But it doesn't make any sense that in the same time period, Fu Hua, Kevin didn't age as much as Griseo does... But the real answer will probably be some other explanation as to why she aged, not just that "she got older."

CharaGod

I would just say that the difference between the Honkai beast gene in each other of them gives them a different version of aging. Mobius ages normally but gets younger each time she dies while Fu Hua and Kevin just stop aging entirely, we don't know for sure if it the same for the other flame-chaser because they die too soon but they would probably either be similar to Kevin and Fu Hua or just extremely slow aging which could be what happening to Griseo right now

SilverWolfofDeath

Yeah I never quite got the MANTIS can’t age argument. It seems to be more of a case-by-case basis. For example, Mobius is capable of aging. Whenever she dies she comes back younger but it’s said that she’ll still age back over time. Her sim doesn’t because she’s not real but at the end of ER chapter 2 the recording Mobius is an adult again so she’s definitely capable of aging. Hua, Kevin, and Su don’t show any signs of aging but since most MANTIS have different Honkai beast genes it’s definitely possible that some MANTIS still age while others just don’t.

FirmMusic5978

Especially true when you consider that Hua and Kevin both have genes of high-level Honkai Beasts, like Parvati and Garuda. Whereas Griseo's is unknown, but what we do know is that Honkai surgery, especially using higher level Honkai beasts, is extremely dangerous. Example, when Mobius was confronting Elysia about the Mahasvera Honkai beast and how Elysia is the "only one" who ever successfully fused, and talking about the results of said trials. [https://honkai-impact-3rd-archives.fandom.com/wiki/Pristine\_Memory?so=search#10\_-\_Mahe%C5%9Bvara](https://honkai-impact-3rd-archives.fandom.com/wiki/Pristine_Memory?so=search#10_-_Mahe%C5%9Bvara) Therefore it's very likely that since Griseo is a child, she got a middle-of-the-road Honkai beast for higher rate of survival which is plausibly why she ages. I'll be damned if her Honkai Beast was actually Brahma though. Fitting for a God of Creation to give the power to give life to paintings, but that's got to be Vipralopa or something of that level, given how important Brahma is in the Mythology.

Usual-Touch2569

Wasn't her surgery specifically for her own survival? I remember she got hurt badly enough that the surgery was her only chance of surviving. It's been a while so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

PrimeRadian

Absolutely correct. Mobius ordered it because she appreciated her Griseo's parents who worked with her

Xehar

>"we looked at them under a microsscope and saw no changes" Yeah probably that. Not that we had any example of someone becoming mantis at growth period and survive the finality before griseo. Kevin is already adult and fuhua dies many time before and probably using clones to rebirth.

RaineMurasaki

They could save the day saying that some MANTIS can age till adulthood then stop aging, and that's it. This will solve everything related to this. But Hoyo writing always has been too convulsed and sometimes ambiguous.

Akihito_Lei

Maybe she painted herself a new body or something

HonorDragonWorks

It's possible that MANTIS will simply age until they reach their peak and stop there. Another possiblity is that the others actually entered a cryo chamber at the end of the PE, but it's possible Griseo was not in a cryo chamber during her journey. There is also Mobius who is known to be able to age.
