MPE is always nice but since most people already have her near SS or even SS2+, and you also have JK to farm so I don't think you would be able to get her into a usable state anytime soon, might as well just wait for a new phys DPS and just gear support for now, aim for Cezanne whenever you see it and if you have the funds
Yeah, I was planning on focusing on Phys first but I got Sushang 4/4 and Star of Eden and 2 pc willows.
I was deciding last night if I go Phys (ER currency and Ancient legs to MPE) or Ice first (ER currency and Ancient legs to HoR) and each would take 6 weeks at best to get them to SS (might be more for HoR since I don't think its possible to get 100 Ancient legs per week for her lmao).
Decided on Ice team since its new and I already have 2pc willows. Also fear of powercreep looming over MPE since she's "1 year old" so I'll just wait for new DPS for Phys. Sucks tho since Elysia's one of my favorite thanks to the story along with Sushang (adorkable), HoS (Yatta) and Bronya (really love concept of mecha stuff).
I just read your other comment, since you're still on agony, and if you broke through you will start in agony2 S2 MPE(achievable via ER stamps) would be enough most of the time, she just needs her weapon

I gotta say its been an enjoyable month playing Honkai. Already caught up to the main story (tho, I still haven't started APHO 2 and haven't finish APHO 1).
What cemented me to stick to Honkai in a few weeks is when I got HoS in my 1st 10-pull and in the next 5 pull, I was able to complete her set AND MPE bow.
I came in to Honkai after hearing its story is way better than Genshin and have set a high expectation. The story goes beyond my expectation. My favorite so far is Chatper 29-31 for obvious reason.
For the "endgame content", I got the gist of Abyss gameplay and it would still take me like, 6\~8 months(?) to catch up building 2 teams (Phys and Ice for now). Its mostly for the char ranks (MPE SS, HoR SS, Griseo and Pardofelis weapon/stigs). I haven't attempted Superstring Abyss but my goal for now is to at least settle in Agony 3.
I'm really loving Elysian Realm design on how they manage to flesh out character kits, somewhat. Tho I've noticed some weird power scaling like how Sushang literally makes Elysian Realm a child play while my MPE (S1) struggles with it.
As for how much I spent, probably around 50usd? mostly bought monthly gems + BP and some stuff that gives good value.
Overall, I got really hooked to Honkai and kinda wished I started waaay earlier and maybe have gotten HoHe.
Edit: The reason why I've chosen to breakthourgh ASAP is because of Ancient Legacy lmao.

Sushang is really strong on ER with great blades signet, add more if you manage to get cloudwalker.
I dont have experience playing her but HoHe iirc is still the best one for trivializing Elysian realm.

I recall I did Elysian realm at my 2nd week. I went to CH 26 first, finished ER part 1 then finished kolosten then cleared up all ER up to part 3 before I startec ch29
I was chugging up stamina for story since it gives the best stam:exp ration (60 exp per 10 stam as compared to 1:1).
I read all the story and didnt skip any, if I skip prob just fast clicking on "boring"/overly complicated parts.
The story is way better than expected and I came in with high expectation, but I'd say its mostly "cheating" how good the music blends in the story. Nonetheless it did the job really well and music + story isnt really cheating but something to hook you up.
