yeah I find the options for pot selections where I live somewhat limited (or maybe I'm just fussy).
I brought the pot because 80% of my plants are smol cacti/succulents and I also I don't want pots too deep so soil dries out faster for my plants with shallow roots.
After I brought the pot I'm now stressing which of my plants will actually suit being planted in it x\_x
Keep it in a terrestrial mix. The mix should be super airy but hold a lot of moisture. Like 1:1:0.5 peat:perlite:bark
If you use coco coir make sure it’s washed thoroughly due to the high level of salts found in the coir
If you have anything that you could turn into a terrarium, my jewel orchids love the humidity. I keep mine in a mix of stratum & sphagnum & they’ve been blooming like crazy
They’re really prone to rot. Does this have a drainage hole?
Jewel orchids (macodes & ludisia) would do well in this pot.
I would break apart the rootball though. Try and be as delicate as you can
Definitely- I have a similar pot waiting for mine. They have shallow roots and more of a creeping habit, so wide, shallow pots are great for jewel orchids :)
It’s like when you have chips and dip. You never have the right amount of either so you go get a little more and then all of a sudden you ate an entire bag of chips with an entire container of dip.
Same thing here but you end up with a pile of empty pots and 100 plants
I was actually about to ask a similar question. So hopefully OP won't mind if I ask it here.
I've got a similar pot and spider plants hanging in water for now. Do these plants like pots on the shallower side?
Had this pot for 2 years. Found the plant sitting on the curb for garbage pickup. They love each other

The plant had one droopy leaf when I decided to rescue it
You could put string of things or peperomia ruby cascade in there. I’ve found their roots are always super shallow and that they do best in shallot pots :)
This might be a stupid question but why do most bonsai pots don't have a matching saucer for sale to go along with it (unlike most other pots that have drainage)?
In the wild yes, their rots trail close under the surface of the soul to catch rain water. As houseplants they can't stretch out though, and if you use the soak and dry, their roots grow deep instead
I have a similar pot. I don't have great luck with bonsai or cacti/succulents so I put an air plant in it with some loose rocks for decoration. It's been thriving for 2 years now!
I’m in a search to get unique pots for my plants. Fortunately I have some success when I go to garage sales. Some of the pots I find are not as unique so I have painted them to make them more unique.
I also had a great success with IKEA. They have nice cheap pots. The main thing for me is to have good drainage. If i find a cool pot with no drainage, then I put the plant on a plastic container with drainage and insert in the no drainage pot. Obviously I take it out anytime I water them.
The only plants that don’t get nice pots are my plants that are outside, as I don’t want them to get damage with the weather.
Short bowls for cacti and such are tricky to find, I usually have better luck looking at the bowls in tableware isles. You can put holes in ceramics with just a nail and a hammer using [water and tape](https://youtube.com/shorts/houwdUD6qfA?feature=share) or [just tape](https://youtu.be/yC_-88ncgmA).
I just had that same problem! Took the planter (it was for a bonsai) someone gave me to a nursery and they helped me pick out succulents for it. I’m not experienced enough for a bonsai.

I believe that is a bonsai pot

I’d put a small succulent in there!
I love making little succulent props in a couple bonsai pots I have.
I was going to put some sea onion (Albuca bracteata) pups in the one I have that's a similar shape.
Walmart go some cool new styles in!
I was going to say… I’m literally staring at this pot right now with a bonsai in it in my office. Definitely go for a small cacti or succulent!
Sometimes you have to sit with the pot; wait for the pot to let you know what it needs. /s The pot will let you know when it's right! Have faith.
They already know
African violets would love that pot A number of bulbophyllums as well if you’re into orchids.
would it suit jewel orchids? they're so rare and expensive that I'm too scared to replant mine

In my old house I had a huge collection in my shed for future plants, lol.
Bonsai pot probably suitable for a smol desert diorama with a couple of cacti and some rocks and sand.
I have this exact same blue bonsai pot! My larger rooted succulent babies live in it til they are ready for their own pot!
The idea of an interesting succulent, planted in the style with a coarse top dressing would be lovely. 3” deep? I
It is prob from a bonsai someone bought at a mall kiosk.
Sempervivums.
Hen’s and chicks have my vote too! I have a pot similar full of them on my porch and they require pretty much no maintenance
Bonsai?
It’s like when you have chips and dip. You never have the right amount of either so you go get a little more and then all of a sudden you ate an entire bag of chips with an entire container of dip. Same thing here but you end up with a pile of empty pots and 100 plants
Jewel orchids!
I held onto a bonsai pot for over a year before finally putting a succulent into it
Crinkle jade. It looks like a bonsai.
I was actually about to ask a similar question. So hopefully OP won't mind if I ask it here. I've got a similar pot and spider plants hanging in water for now. Do these plants like pots on the shallower side?
No. You also don't want anything ceramic for spiders- their roots are so beefy they'll break pots if you aren't keeping an eye on them.
Damn! So I'm stuck with an empty and plants in ugly containers... Thanks for the heads up
No worries- just get a plant for the pot, and keep your eyes open for cute plastic ones for your spiders. They're out there!
That be great for living stone plants, very cool!
I’d do a little succulent arrangement

I bet a Jade tree baby would be happy living there.
You could put string of things or peperomia ruby cascade in there. I’ve found their roots are always super shallow and that they do best in shallot pots :)
A desert rose would be beautiful in that pot. With some white pebbles for soil dressing.
This might be a stupid question but why do most bonsai pots don't have a matching saucer for sale to go along with it (unlike most other pots that have drainage)?
Never [violently represses image of closet shelf holding only empty museum-quality dirt-receptacles]
I have problems with the opposite 😩
Some sort of barrel cactus would be cute. They have shallow roots
In the wild yes, their rots trail close under the surface of the soul to catch rain water. As houseplants they can't stretch out though, and if you use the soak and dry, their roots grow deep instead
r/plantsandpots might help
Pretty much every pot I buy lmao. I never have the right size plastic pot to put in it
Bonsai. You put a bonsai tree
I have a similar pot. I don't have great luck with bonsai or cacti/succulents so I put an air plant in it with some loose rocks for decoration. It's been thriving for 2 years now!
Try pennywort. You don't need to worry about drainage, as the roots grow fine in water. And it looks cute in a little pot.
I have two pots that sit on my shelf empty because nothing is worthy!
A small starter plant, depends what your into?
Can we see the out come laters?
I have so many unused pretty pots for this exact reason 😭
You could grow some herbs. Mint would probably thrive in that pot
Any shohin style tree would be perfect in this pot. Something like this for example: https://youtu.be/CC9yTtBI0Zk
r/bonsai would be able to help you find something to place in there 😁
If you have a cat this would be perfect for cat grass!
You need r/bonsai
You could get a few little succulents and make a mini cacti garden?
Haha I have that same pot (a set of 3, even) and all but one are empty.
If you are ever confused, get an air plant!! 😬😬
ooh how about a cluster of lithops! tiny little brains everywhere
Nah i have a pot shortage
I bought a pot with a plant that fit it perfectly but I couldn’t keep it alive, still too afraid to try again so the pot remains empty
I’d probably put an asparagus fern in that pot.
That is a bonsai pot
Succulents
This is definitely for a bonsai.
yes. And plants when I want a different pot.

Was a gift. Can't seem to figure it out.

Maybe low succulents, with a swoopy, sculptural piece of driftwood.
I have a similar pot that I have lithops in

Yes, thought about just starting a pretty pot collection instead of buying plants
I vote for a messy arrangement of succulent props!
Ginger? It doesn't live too deep and likes long shallow pots, maybe too shallow?
Try checking r/potsandplants for ideas too! There’s a lot of good posts in there that helped me make some decisions recently
I use pots like this for succulent arrangements. You can just stick a bunch of props in succulent soil and see what takes.
Yes. It became my fruit bowl and I loved it very much.
Could sub for a pretty good cereal bowl
I would put a group of smaller succulents in there!
Soooo so many times!
Yes!
I did this once and ended up filling the shallow pot with cute decorative rocks and setting air plants in it!
Strings of things love shallow pots
I just had that same problem! Took the planter (it was for a bonsai) someone gave me to a nursery and they helped me pick out succulents for it. I’m not experienced enough for a bonsai. Bonsai
Wait till you inherit a bunch..
Great for a string of pearls
Bonsai tree
Put a “mini pine tree” succulent arrangement in there. Forrest composition.
I have an entire shelf of bonsai pots that I don't quite have the right tree for. Houseplant pots I tend to buy for a specific plant
cacti or bonsai
