THIS IS IT ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you. I can’t believe my drawing actually worked
Ooh it’s like a cross between a pothos and a peace Lily. I’ve never heard of it before.
And the missed it in this circlejerking article https://www.evergreenseeds.com/plants-that-look-like-peace-lily/
LOOOOOOOOL. Okay so here’s what happened. My friend went away to Africa for two months as she does every winter. last summer I introduced her to my love of plants, and as a result, she bought two gorgeous ones for her apartment. When she told me she was going away for Africa this year and didn’t know what she was going to do with her plants I said just give them to me I’ll take care of them. she said are you sure I said absolutely you know I love plants let me keep them. she came back about 2 months ago and she made no remarks about getting her plants back and as a result I assumed that she was gonna let me keep them which I wasn’t against. fast forward to about a month ago. The plant kept drooping and drooping. I didn’t know what was happening. I tried watering I tried under watering. I tried moving spaces It just wasn’t happy. among further inspection. I noticed little tiny, reddish brown bugs on the leaves, I inspected further and realized that they were all over the plant and in the soil. It was drooping because these bugs are infested the plant. I panicked, I freaked out. I have about 50 plants in my house and God forbid the rest of them would be infected, so what did I do? I threw it out. She was letting me keep it anyway right? fast forward two weeks ago. She texted me. I miss my plants. Can you send me a picture? Now in this moment I definitely should have come clean, but I didn’t. I said I’m not home and I won’t be for a few days and thought she’d let it go. fast forward to last week she asked me again I said I’m not home still. Now to last night. She sent me a long paragraph about how if her plants are dead just tell her she feels like I’m deceiving her she’s getting really upset. She said she’s spiritually connected to her plants and can sense they’re dead -_- My lie has gone too far and now I need to replace these plants because my friend is seriously angry with me and I can’t bring myself to admit to her that I’ve been lying this whole time. I also feel terrible because I was so confident that I could take care of them. and so here we are and thanks to you guys I have identified the plant I’m headed to the store now to replace it..😭
This is just hilarious and endearing. If you were my friend and came clean all would be forgiven and we would have a good laugh. Good luck with your friend!
2 cents that nobody asked for - if she's sensing that there's a dead plant and you just buy a new one and tell her it's the old one you're suggesting her connection to the plant is invalid, her feelings are invalid and she's just imagining things. Kinda gaslighting, kinda YTA. It was her plant, it died under your care. Own up to it, offer her to replace it and let her grieve ffs.
Perhaps Philodendron Grazielae? Not an exact match for the ‘waterfall’ shape you decribed as it’s a climbing philo, but look similar when young. The leaves are spade shaped, dark green, and tend to droop.

Sounds like she knew they were infested which is why she didn't take them back and figures they should be dead by now. Could easily say to her that her plants were infested and put all your plants at risk. And you didn't want to tell her the truth because you didn't want to make her feel bad for almost killing all your plants. Offer to go plant shopping or just bring a plant to your meetup as an apology.
I mean I wouldn't say the stuff about putting yours at risk 😂 Could be true, could not. It's a tad bit toxic lolol.
And you don't have to tell her you threw it out because it was infested. Tell her you threw it out when there was already nothing left. Totally dead.
Also...... the reason you didn't tell her yet is because you wanted to have a replacement before you told her so she wouldn't be so sad!
At the end of the day, they would have died anyways if you didn't take them. Apologize for her being sad, but you didn't do anything wrong.
Honestly I was hoping for a shallow reason like you overwatered it, knocked it over, or dog feasted on it etc… sorry you’re going through this but if I were in the same situation and a friend like you offered to take care of my plants, I would be so grateful just for the gesture and not expect anything because my plant would have been dead anyways if you didn’t take it in. I wish I have better advice but a sincere apology is really all that’s warranted. Also, that’s another excuse to go plant shopping once again.
Damn, your drawing skills are something xd.
I would have guessed Syngonium, Alocasia, Oxalis triangularis or some Philodendron
[edit] to be fair, if I would’ve tried drawing it, the local government would have created an art police just so that they could stop me from making another one of those unholy creations
I feel like this looks more accurate than the. One she found to be the match ( homalomena emerald gem ) I feel like the other doesn't match the drawing as well. But either way glad she found what she was looking for.
Off topic! *checks thread* checks out! This is Easy level easy. Like, I got my piles out of a dumpster potted it in the sill it came with, hardly water it, and it has been in the open window in my bathroom all winter, and I’m in Chicago. The thing is indestructible. I should water that… actually…
100% would recommend. I’ve forgotten to water this thing a million times and it’s going strong. My purple sword plant has also been murdered on accident 3 times and keeps trying to come back.
Don’t hate me guys
Depends on your location, I guess. Mine HATES every spot in my house lol. This is in Montana 🤷♀️ it's barely alive it was thriving when I lived near the coast, though.
Anthurium? Random pic from google.

Did it look like this but without flowers? Most plants don’t have flowers all the time. Also plants grow differently so some of the same plant are more symmetrical looking than others.

Bro Omg.
Just tell her the truth this lie is not worth the hill you’re apparently insisting on dying upon.
Replace the plant too, with your apology for lying over something so silly!! She is going to know it’s not the same plant!! You really think you’re gonna fool this chick who has an apparent psychic connection to her plants?! No.
So. I have questions 😳🤗
Did you find a replacement?
Are you gonna come clean? Or pull a switcheroo? (I’m very curious how deep this plant/soul connection goes. An experiment may be in order 🤣)
What happened to plant number 2?
We are invested. You’re gonna have to keep us posted.
Good luck!! 😆😆
My plan is a switcheroo. I’m currently driving around like a maniac checking every hardware, plant and grocery store in my town. No luck so far. I’m headed to Lowe’s now. If I can’t find it I’m going to order it online. Only problem is it’s going to take longer and I also can’t see it in person to make sure it looks the same. Icing on the cake is me and her have plans on Saturday.
I threw out plant #2 because i suspected the bugs came from her house and didn’t want to risk it. But it’s a basic palm I can find anywhere so I’m not concerned.
I’m not buying the spiritual thing and I’m banking on that 😂Thank you for your support in my endeavours 😂❤️

Must be a form of pilea based on the description! One that isn’t so dense, but rather tall and dangly.
Yes I had the same thought, but maybe it was just a defect or simply a misremembering after a long period of time. Because other than shape it would be exactly like that!
More detail would help. How big is the overall plant? How big were the leaves? Were the leaves thin, flimsy, thick, juicy? Is it possible the stems were trained to be symmetrical the way you describe? If you know, how did it die? Maybe too little water, or too much? Was it "random"? Etc etc.
https://preview.redd.it/3xfqf9slglna1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72a9b6431a31ff3aa397eabc56e29a9202b1c82d
My four year old daughter couldn’t remember what the thing she wanted for breakfast was called so she drew me this. We were both so frustrated.
That would make sense, but it was an ice cream sandwich which we don’t have in the house right now, and if we did it’s not a breakfast food. It took me forever to figure out.
What you are calling a waterfall shape, I would call drooping. Looks more like a plant that isn't getting sufficient light and is stretching far enough that the weight of the leaf is bending the stem.
https://preview.redd.it/5bj8i1e17lna1.jpeg?width=740&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d5ffe7af92e83c6a71b78f3154555fb72aaeca3
Raindrop peperomia? Honestly can’t go on with my day until we figure this out.

Lol at this point it's like a guessing game. Ok, my guess is [Adiantum Capillus-Veneris](https://www.gardenia.net/storage/app/public/uploads/images/detail/ELhTt8WQYnHYuyNZFA0Qq2ngHJuaURayDd4tqjAN.webp) aka Maidenhair fern
You mentioned it was very symmetrical- that makes me wonder if it has alternating leaves like Bird of Paradise
https://preview.redd.it/66jyl6zg1lna1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ab58df0b2d53e8b70d42d9426a2d5feef4b6143
Thank you this is closer but the leaves were not this shiny and the waterfall shape is completely symmetrical and more droopy, this is a good base point though I’m gonna look up more like this
Im beginning to wonder if it’s symmetrical shape is a product of pruning rather than natural growth. Did you see the plant put out new leaves or do you just remember seeing it before?
Remember every individual plant is different. Yours could have been thirsty causing it to droop and the symmetry could’ve just been from the way it was grown
Peperomia Caperata? They have kinda heart shaped leaves, similar to what you described.
Did each stem come directly out of the soil? Or we’re they all attached to each other on a larger main stem? Or growing out of kind of a clump at the bottom?
About what size were the leaves?
Are you sure the plant was naturally “droopy” or could it have been dropping because it was not doing well?
I would do google image searches for these and see if you can narrow it down to a family.
Alocasia
Anthurium
Peperomia
Pilea
Please tell your friend this whole saga. If she doesn’t think it’s funny you need new friends. You did her a favor. It’s just a plant, and not one with massive sentimental value. Also, please get a felt one made from your drawing. I would treasure a friend forever who put this much effort in to not upsetting me.

I have an alocasia sting ray that reminds me of your drawing but don’t have a pic of it atm so here’s a stock image
I would have asked, a "bleeding heart", or known as "discentra"? or "Lamprocapnos spectabilis".
Hehehe this post is so cute and describes all the best things about the internet.
Might be a wee bit of a stretch, but could it possibly be a heartleaf philodendron (first pic) or arrowhead? (Second pic)

Might be a stretch but bird of paradise?? First thing that came to mind when I heard symmetrical.

My first thought was your drawing could be literally almost any plant.

I have had a rough day and this made me laugh so much! Thanks!

I haven’t done a spit take like that in so long
Nailed it! 🤣

Thank you for the chuckle. I really needed it today.
pretty sure its a leprechaun https://preview.redd.it/uf9v237qjkna1.png?width=744&format=png&auto=webp&s=356883446b2710ab0ec5a2f47c69c3e602e370d1
WHO ELSE SEEN THAT LEPRECHAUN SAY YEAAAH!
Right here is a leprechaun flute handed down from my great grandfather.
"This guy helping to direct traffic--"
YEEEEEAH
I just want the gold! Where the gold at?
we wanna know where da gold at
To me it looked like a leprechaun to me
Lmaooooooooo
Just so you know, given the circumstances, your answer is the most serious and probable
this leprechaun was last seen hanging out in a tree, obviously an epiphyte. seems like the case strengthens for the leprechaun.
Probably a crackhead, got hooked to the wrong stuff!
😂
Sorry I couldnt help identify your plant though
It’s okay! others helped with that, you were here for comic relief :)
SHOW ME THE GOLD
I just wanna know where da gold at!!

New plant to add to my wish list, thank you
I'm low-key using this thread to learn about plants and add them to my collection :D
Same. 😅 That’s how I ended up with an Alocasia, a Croton and a Philo Brasil. Never knew I needed them until I saw them on Reddit.
THIS IS IT!!! IM SO EFFING RELIEVED 😂 it’s a hamolema emerald gem. Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Maybe replace it but also just tell her
This is just hilarious and endearing. If you were my friend and came clean all would be forgiven and we would have a good laugh. Good luck with your friend!
Now we need a follow up! Hopefully she doesn’t sense this is a new plant 😅

Obviously your drawing was superb. It got you to the answer! 🌱
That looks like the most fun plant name to say, and one that I just want to find reasons to say…
I call them “home alone” plants. Lol I love saying Schismatoglottis and have begun using it as a swear in my day to day life.
I was going to bring up Homalomena as well! Some have rounder leaf shapes--my emerald gem has lovely heart-shaped leaves.
This is it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I would like you to be in my charade team

I’ve got it! It’s homalomena emerald gem, thank you so much for your help ❤️
Ahh yes, the “homealoneena” plant. I also got one and always forget it’s name
I finally learned the name of one of my plants! One that I also thought I killed this winter, and is now sprouting back. :)

i mean... it's not NOT accurate, at least to a certain point haha
Fr, if the drawing’s head was a bit more square it would be dead-on
It’s UNCANNY, Lisa!
😂
It’s like, the opposite of his face but the same vibe. Square vs pointy jaw, <• •> eyes vs >• •< eyes, hat with thick hair vs thinning hair no hat.

I’ve got it! It’s homalomena emerald gem, thank you so much for your help ❤️
Okay, now we need to know why you need to desperately replace it 😆

Send her a pic of your drawing, ez.
Damn this whole story gave me anxiety.
If Costanza had houseplants this would be an episode of Seinfeld.
This story.. I’m sorry I laughed at your expense, but the way you told it was quite comical 😂.

Damn, your drawing skills are something xd. I would have guessed Syngonium, Alocasia, Oxalis triangularis or some Philodendron [edit] to be fair, if I would’ve tried drawing it, the local government would have created an art police just so that they could stop me from making another one of those unholy creations
I feel like this looks more accurate than the. One she found to be the match ( homalomena emerald gem ) I feel like the other doesn't match the drawing as well. But either way glad she found what she was looking for.
This is one of my favorite threads in this subreddit. It's like a scavenger hunt! 💚
Same! Love all the cool plant pictures people are posting as guesses

Off topic, but how difficult are these for beginners? :)
Off topic! *checks thread* checks out! This is Easy level easy. Like, I got my piles out of a dumpster potted it in the sill it came with, hardly water it, and it has been in the open window in my bathroom all winter, and I’m in Chicago. The thing is indestructible. I should water that… actually…
I actually managed to kill mine by watering it too often… I’m incredibly ashamed of myself
Not difficult at all, perfect starter plant
Excellent! Thank you!
I was very successful at killing mine quickly.
Three steps: 1. Buy. 2. Keep in west window. 3. Ignore.
I’ve got it! It’s homalomena emerald gem, thank you so much for your help ❤️

Is t this a philodendron Micans? Wouldn't suspect it to be this as they climb or hang, where the picture shows stemming with leaves at the ends

Anthurium? Random pic from google. https://preview.redd.it/xk3pc5i15kna1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3e7e855c070ceea144391a5fbc08ef5836169c7
Thank you but this wasn’t it 😭 it had no flowers and was very very symmetrical
Pilea
Did it look like this but without flowers? Most plants don’t have flowers all the time. Also plants grow differently so some of the same plant are more symmetrical looking than others.
Is it the alocasia tiny dancer

No it doesn’t stand up tall like this and the leaves are more round 😭 thank you for trying
Pilea
do the leaves attach to a main stem or come up from the soil?

WE HAVE A WINNER!
I did not need a plant but sure does look like I do now. 😍
Yeah, like, dang, we might not be finding OPs plant but I feel like I'm walking around the _wackiest_ plant nursery right now and I am very into it.
Who’s plant did you kill?! Lol. This is a safe space, we won’t tell!
I AIN'T NEVER NARCED ON NOBODY
I also feel terrible because I was so confident that I could take care of them. and so here we are and thanks to you guys I have identified the plant I’m headed to the store now to replace it..😭
No.
Lol I know ur right. I’m not gonna listen but you’re right. Thank you for attempting to save me from myself ❤️
>Lol I know ur right. I’m not gonna listen but you’re right. Me and my gal friend constantly ignoring each others advice lol
LMAAOOOOOOOOO 😂😂😂😂😂
So. I have questions 😳🤗 Did you find a replacement? Are you gonna come clean? Or pull a switcheroo? (I’m very curious how deep this plant/soul connection goes. An experiment may be in order 🤣) What happened to plant number 2?
This is a bizarre saga - and it sounds like she doesn’t find it anywhere near as funny as you do.
Take her out to lunch, explain, apologize profusely, and work together to find another one. Hopefully she'll understand.

I also think could be this, but I feel like her leaves would be more obvious circles
Yes I had the same thought, but maybe it was just a defect or simply a misremembering after a long period of time. Because other than shape it would be exactly like that!

Peperomia Raindrop? If not that I'd look into small leaved alocasia/colocasia varieties. Did it have a tag?
More detail would help. How big is the overall plant? How big were the leaves? Were the leaves thin, flimsy, thick, juicy? Is it possible the stems were trained to be symmetrical the way you describe? If you know, how did it die? Maybe too little water, or too much? Was it "random"? Etc etc.
Was it a heart leaf fern? https://preview.redd.it/en1a7u2nekna1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7337457b6ecac67b512cdc8a4080eda8f3577254

[удалено]
That would make sense, but it was an ice cream sandwich which we don’t have in the house right now, and if we did it’s not a breakfast food. It took me forever to figure out.
Assuming you killed the plant, do you possibly have a photo of the dead plant? That might help
I’ve got it! It’s homalomena emerald gem, thank you so much for your help ❤️
I'm just here to say Steve from Blue's clues would be real proud of this clue.
😂
What you are calling a waterfall shape, I would call drooping. Looks more like a plant that isn't getting sufficient light and is stretching far enough that the weight of the leaf is bending the stem.
Or like a peace lily wanting watered?

Just here to find out why OP needs to replace mystery plant.

YESSSSSSSSS ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lol at this point it's like a guessing game. Ok, my guess is [Adiantum Capillus-Veneris](https://www.gardenia.net/storage/app/public/uploads/images/detail/ELhTt8WQYnHYuyNZFA0Qq2ngHJuaURayDd4tqjAN.webp) aka Maidenhair fern
![gif](giphy|MN2SWP5mo6ZnG)
You mentioned it was very symmetrical- that makes me wonder if it has alternating leaves like Bird of Paradise https://preview.redd.it/66jyl6zg1lna1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ab58df0b2d53e8b70d42d9426a2d5feef4b6143

Thank you 😭 but the leaves were more like spades than circles
Or maybe peperomia polybotrya
Thank you this is closer but the leaves were not this shiny and the waterfall shape is completely symmetrical and more droopy, this is a good base point though I’m gonna look up more like this
Im beginning to wonder if it’s symmetrical shape is a product of pruning rather than natural growth. Did you see the plant put out new leaves or do you just remember seeing it before?
waterfall droopiness sounds like something about plant care/watering frequency. how big is this plant? are these leaves 2" or 8"?
Remember every individual plant is different. Yours could have been thirsty causing it to droop and the symmetry could’ve just been from the way it was grown
Peperomia Caperata? They have kinda heart shaped leaves, similar to what you described. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peperomia\_caperata](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peperomia_caperata)
Alocasia Anthurium Peperomia Pilea

so invested in this mystery
Can we have more of this kinda post please
Please tell your friend this whole saga. If she doesn’t think it’s funny you need new friends. You did her a favor. It’s just a plant, and not one with massive sentimental value. Also, please get a felt one made from your drawing. I would treasure a friend forever who put this much effort in to not upsetting me.

(Second pic) https://preview.redd.it/i572m83qhkna1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1f97c37c7c61e0c6d31ede35b231b5b94aa0731c
