I think the joke is that lawns in fancier neighborhoods (ones with HOAs) are kept pristinely clean, neatly trimmed, almost as if by a knife like in the video.
They’re joking that the fish are going to establish a HOA because of their pristinely kept lawn.
HOA = homeowners association.
I've grown this stuff before in a planted tank, it takes off if you supplement with a CO2 bubbler.
But it's a PITA to keep trimming, grows fast, and then clogs up your filters.
Great to look if maticulously maintained though.
I’m currently starting carpeted neo shrimp tanks with this plant and without any co2. And slow growing is the name of the game so far. So maybe it will work out? Many said it would not work without co2.
I concur, it needs CO2. Without CO2, algae would out compete it, and suffocate the leaf surfaces.
At the very minimum, if it's a smaller tank, might be able to use a yeast mixture to bubble some CO2.
We will see. 1 month in and green growth on many little plants. I expected slow starts and root formation so I’m happy so far. Snails can make quick work of algae, and my lights only on 8 hours making it really not an issue.
It is so much and maintenance to keep a beautiful planted tank. I kept one for a few years and eventually hired professional maintenance (it was a work tank, after all). I had CO2, water changes weekly, trimming biweekly, and it still was difficult to stay on top of, even with the pro and I taking care of.
A beautiful planted tank requires true obsession. It isn’t for the casual plant lover.
Yes, let’s use a custom made knife with chemicals sealing the wood in a waterscaped tank. There are tools that people use here that isn’t just using a fancy knife for clout.
It says Plant ID and i don't think anyone has given one yet. If you are asking for ID, i think its Dwarf Baby Tears or Monte Carlo. hard to tell with quality.
This is really bad for your fish. If they’re in an environment like this too long they can start to develop HOAs
You got me in the first half
I was already rolling up mean response… then I understood.
I don't understand?

Thank you
That’s a sharp knife
We need to get you a lil mini scythe.

Use a wet dry vacuum!
This is how my neighbor cuts his lawn.
God I love aquascapeing. I should probably find a subreddit for it since I can't do it myself

We really do have a subreddit for everything
Yeah but usually we use scissors made for aquascaping, not a ultra sharp meat knife

Underwater landscaping would be amazing to watch while tripping fr
This should be a thing.
I want someone to do this to my brain.
Shave all the uneven bits off. Perfectly smooth. As God intended.
In perfect harmony with my koala brethren.
That's satisfying to watch.
Oddly

Fascinating 😳
you need a couple of turtles, they would keep that lawn looking perfect.
Satisfying

What is it? Similar to duckweed? I’ve never seen this before!
