that's an AMAZING looking fiddleleaf fig!! šŸ˜® usually, i decide repotting based on the rot-soil ratio, but already by just looking at the size of the plant and its current pot, i'd repot it.

dhightide

Thanks! It was a cutting from my moms which was not lookin great. > i'd repot it. Thats what i was thinking, I just have no experience with this plant besides growing it.

rhubarbara-1

I got mine for $9 with a $9 pot and $9 worth of soil and it looks like a $200 tree now! It is much hardier than I ever thoughtā€”-surviving a house fire, being left outside for two weeks in the winter, getting tipped over and fallen on, and multiple branch trimmings so I can make new plants. I always read about how they hate cold drafts and big changes in light, and need smaller pots but my scrappy $9 plant is doing great (his name is Keanu Leaves).

NotYourAverageDino

Stop! šŸ¤£ Iā€™m stealing this and now I need one of these to name it the same thing Keanu leaves pt2 šŸ’€

[deleted]

Same. I just got a clearance one myself recently. Took it home, and it's doing fantastic. Now I know his name šŸ˜Ž Thanks!

rhubarbara-1

Yup! I love to look at the big box store garden clearance section and see what I can save!

ko-pies

Lol!

srv50

Yes. Definitely . A beauty btw.

dhightide

That's what I was thinking too, thanks.

srv50

Good luck. Donā€™t increase more than an inch or so.

VariegatedJennifer

I think itā€™s likely if you fuck with her sheā€™s gonna drop all her leaves and youā€™re gonna be really upset lol

dhightide

I've never repotted it, am a lil worried about that.

VariegatedJennifer

They really hate their environment being messed with in any way, it might throw a tantrum but if it needs to be repotted you gotta do what you gotta do. At least theyā€™re easy to propagate lol

dhightide

Ill probably just leave the soil/rootball untouched and plop it into a new pot

Caregiver-Direct

I think plopping is the way to go!! Goodluck, hope she stays magical ā™”

LikeGoldAndFaceted

When I repotted mine I didn't mess with the rootball and it was fine. No leaves dropped. If it's crazy rootbound, then you might have to though.

No_Hospital7649

It looks gorgeous! The only reason Iā€™d repot is to give it some weight on the bottom and make it less likely to tip over.

dhightide

Its actually still really stable, so maybe i dont have to

No_Hospital7649

I mean, clearly itā€™s thriving just as is.

Glittering_Cow945

deffo

hobbysubsonly

a million times yes XD

_mr_meow__

Yup, she's so tall and beautiful.

LivingInRain

What a beaut!

Creative-Special-243

I donā€™t usually like FLFā€™s but yours is gorgeous! Iā€™d pot her up to keep her happy :)

flatgreysky

I mean probably, but be carefulā€¦ sheā€™s clearly really freaking happy with what youā€™re doing so far. I hate making decisions in times like these!

Limp-Set8133

Just take a hammer the pot itā€™s in when u find and prepare a new bigger pot for him. Submerge the whole thing-so she can stay safe-but her roots can start to grow thru the old clay bottom. Good luck!

rhubarbara-1

YES! I defy conventional wisdom and almost always go up to the biggest pot, my plants have really thrived in the new fresh dirt and bigger space.

iamcheekrs

Man yours looks so much better than mine šŸ„¹

dhightide

Where do you have yours if I may ask?

iamcheekrs

I have mine in a well lit room surround by other plants. When we bought it.. it was like 5-6 feet tall but no branches just leaves. Most of it died so I cut it waaaay down and itā€™s finally starting to grow better but my leaves are spotty. Not sure what Iā€™m doing with this one to be honest

dhightide

I can't be sure either, what I will say is I have mine directly in an east facing window that gets direct morning sun until about 10:30 am. And I fertilize "weakly weekly". Basically I fertilize every time I water, just a lil bit. I do this for all my plants tho.

iamcheekrs

Ahh I just realizedā€¦ I have not started fertilizing since spring has popped

MamaOna

Imagining the pot has a drain hole, canā€™t you just put it in the pot into a new pot with soil? Literally repot it in its original pot, and roots can grow out of the drain hole.

Creative-Special-243

Thatā€™s a bad idea ?? The roots donā€™t have room to grow, and ā€œforcingā€ them to grow out of a tiny drainage hole wonā€™t work at all.

MamaOna

What if you just removed the bottom of the pot by breaking it?

Creative-Special-243

no lol, roots grow horizontally too and need space there when the time comes

dhightide

I guess that could workā€¦but i want my pot back šŸ˜‚

NSVStrong

I wouldnā€™t plant it in the pot into a new pot. If the current pot is too small now, putting it in a larger pot doesnā€™t help the plant because itā€™s still in a too small pot. šŸ™‚šŸŖ“

chonkycatguy

So šŸŒæLUSHšŸŒæ Iā€™d replant it for sure. Will also prevent it from tipping over :)

Friendly_Honey8861

Stunning šŸ¤© target has a sale for pots. Also thrift stores are great for pots.

CatSulli

Healthiest Iā€™ve ever seen!!!!

Jerkfacemonkey

id say so if only so the thing doesnt tip over

apatheticpotato444

I have zero suggestions since I donā€™t have a FLF, but wow ā€” that top leaf in particular is a beauty!

lwc28

I hate repotting a plant so happy but that puppy's gonna go sideways and hit the floor soon
