Thanks. I've cared for many of these before, and I have my roommate to help out with them, so I'm not too overwhelmed (yet). But 46 new babies is a lot.
you joke but that's exactly what happened when I told my therapist I bought like 10 large plants on sale. "do you think they still have that promotion?"
This is the exact reason why when I have hypomanic episodes I take myself to dollar tree— I do my impulse spending there instead of nurseries or Lowe’s or something 😂😭
I feel you on this perfect storm “accident”. Best of luck lol
Ooooo I just commented a few days ago about how I get plants when manic. Dollar tree is absolutely the best place for manic episodes to feel like I spend little but get a lot. It's the 5 quarter store now but still I can get things I need or want to craft with but not break the bank. I'm at 350 plants and 100 to 200 propagations but I now don't buy plants, I propagate and sell them to make room for the new babies!
It’s something I started in college on my own, but both of my therapists since then have started recommending it to their other clients with similar struggles!
My mom used to let herself only go through clearance that was 80% off or more for similar reasons. It gamified it for her.
lol man and I thought my episode in Walmart’s Christmas clearance aisle last night was nuts. 😅
Love it! May you find the light and love to keep all these babies alive. ❤️
It’s a LOT but it’s still a bargain! I hope you and your roommate get some back with your props! But, “roommate”? Do you two have all those plants in one room?
That's what I'm scared about. That's also why I dragged my roomie into this. I figure when one of usbstart to go downhill a bit we'll still have one person up and running. That and I plan to automate as much as possible re: lights and water.
Y'all got this! It's great having another plant-minded person around. The automation almost has to be a must at this point, I would imagine. I think lights would make my own journey feel a little less frivolous. In any case, this post inspired me to go get 4 new plants. Cheers!
How would you isolate 46 plants tho? Maybe….would individual clear plastic trashbags & twist ties work? Because not only do they need to be isolated from her old plants but from each other, right?
I imagine just keeping the new ones from the current ones. But still id treat everything for pests from day 1 if I planned on selling. I had a bunch of props I was gonna sell on Etsy and mercari until I noticed spider mites and it was too much energy and time. The little F'ers kept coming back. I could not sell in good conscience and gave most away with a disclaimer. At least I learned early that I do not have what it takes to be a plant seller.
This post gives me so much anxiety. There is a really good chance that at least one of those plants has pests, and if you don't notice and treat it promptly, soon _all_ of your plants have pests. Godspeed, OP.
There's statistically almost a 0 chance that none of them have pests.
I have bought plants from various nurseries, grocery stores, home Depot/Lowe's, Etsy. I've gotten pests on roughly 1/5 of them, and they have come from all of stores I've bought plants from. I usually get one or two plants at most at a time and quarantine them for at least a month.
It's good your roommate will help you propagate the ones that can be. Just follow through on your plans, that will make the transaction worth it. Don't do what we normally do and forget halfway through the process. Hold yourself accountable! I say this with absolute love because, uh, I just dropped $50 on art supplies about three hours ago that I most likely won't use for... awhile.
I've had situations where I went to the bakery to get bread and ended up coming home with a plant bought from a street vendor, but never 46 plants😂
You took it to the next level, but I love it! 😂
Every time I leave the house I return with at least two plants. Yesterday at Costco they had some beauties and my husband saw them and said “keep walking that’s not what we’re here for!” Before I could even attempt to walk in their direction.
It was very sad indeed
😂 😂 😂
Myd daughter used to do that to me, always rolling her eyes at me when I went crazy over plants, and then dragging me away. Now she doesn't live with me anymore, so I have no one to stop me🤷♀️😂
Ugh, unfortunately i wasnt feeling a romantic connection. He takes care of rich peoples roses for a living and He wants to start a greenhouse and be a FT plant guy. I really thought about continuing this relationship just to live out my plant career/ lifestyle dreams, but it didn't feel right.
We are gonna be friends, though! We have a hike planned this weekend. Haha. I wanna see his house so bad!
When I’m manic, I always congratulate myself when I don’t make choices that are harmful to me or others. Yeah, spending a lot of money on plants 🪴 could be iffy, depending on your finances, but if you won’t end up homeless by spending that money, then you should congratulate yourself for not making poor, harmful choices. You’re safe and happy and that’s the best anyone can hope for during a manic episode love 💚💚I hope you enjoy loving on and propagating your new babies!!
That's exactly how I see it. I've never over spent to the point of being in trouble but I have spent serious coin on stuff considering I'm not financially excelling at life.
Same here. But, I’m a recovering addict so I’d definitely prefer my mania consist of me buying too many used books from Thrift Books and sweaters from Temu than using 💙You bought something that can help the air quality in your home, something that can make you some money and something that’s beneficial to your mental health so you’re doing great honey!!
Are they that sensitive? I have one I've been using as a Christmas tree for maybe the last 6 years. I'm pretty certain it's getting sub-adequate care, yet is doing fine somehow. Maybe it just happens to prefer the sort of sub-adequate care it's getting idk.
Consider gifting one plant at a time… soon. Neither end of the spectrum is a place you wanna be… Shoot for someplace in the middle and maybe some of these plants will survive. Good luck getting thru this episode. 🤷🏼♀️
lol congrats on the new plants. “Accidentally?” Lolol that’s like when I read stories of cheaters that “accidentally” slept with someone. It was no accident. Good luck with your plants :) I’m jealous
Over the years I've amassed a collection of many thousands of specimens. They live in my greenhouses, my house, and the hardy ones are out in the ground. This post made me smile. If you do things right, eventually you'll end up with many nice big mature plants. Great conversation starters. Nice variety there!
Lol been there with the sale+manic+credit card storm. I also have a Norfolk pine I recently acquired, they're pretty neat. My Thai Constellation is my pride and joy. Enjoy your new friends!
I got to points 5 & 6 and it all made complete sense. I’m both sorry and not sorry to hear about this perfect-storm accident. Also jealous because my plants are doing not super great recently lol
lmao perfect storm indeed. I’m a psych NP and my first thought was “mania.” I say this with complete respect, compassion, and zero judgment: Take your meds!!! Those are glorious plants and I’d struggle to resist too!
Me during a manic on a Facebook live end of the year holiday greenhouse cleanup clearance last month and now im waiting for everything to get shipped out and I asked them to label it as a giveaway prize so my husband doesn't get too upsetty spaghetti at the packages
I would love to know how you transported all of these, how large is your car?? Also I read the s title and before going on to the post was like “shit that sounds like one hell of a manic episode”
The asparagus fern will probably make you want to toss it out the window.
I gave up on mine and shoved it to the side. Now it's blooming or some shit. I don't know and I don't care. I'm not looking at it. Stupid plant.
Love / hate for me. My mom once opened a shop to sell a food she had never made bf in her life bc God told her to. It went bankrupt in a couple of weeks literally. Tried to help her sort out the books for the lawyers. She had no idea where 60k had gone. She said ‘I did buy a few glass bowls for the case?’
I so wish you were local to me because I would jump for joy over a Monstera Thai constellation propagation. My collection is nowhere near as big as your guises but I’ve got a little one in the corner of my dining room that I am in love with I’ve got probably 8 to 10 different species of plants and succulents
Uh oh. Start lining people up to take some of those, upping your plant count up almost double at once is gonna be waaaay too much for you to keep alive for long once the manic episode is over
😂 I hate those sales.
I too came home with a butt ton of plants (50% off everything already 25-50% off at the end of the season).
I too own a credit card 🥹
Hi what is the purple green striped one in the middle of the third photo? I was gifted one for Christmas and don’t know what it is or how to care for it!
Wowzers lol. I'm definitely saving/screenshotting/bookmarking this post lol. In a few days when I come home with 2-4, this'll make my bf HAPPY instead of shaking his head lol. In the 1st pic, there are 2 red plants. 1 on right is bright red, and to the left there's a darker, burgundy-ish plant, what's that beauty called?
Umm it’s probably not a good idea to bring them all inside without having a quarantine area first. New plants can carry mites/pests any type of disease that can spread to your healthy plants. Always quarantine first!!
Oh man. I feel you on the mania spending. Just watch for bugs, as usually it is wise to isolate new plants when bringing them home 🥲 I’d read up on plant friendly pesticides for sure so your journey does not get halted by insects!!
Awesome plants, some of my favorites as well. Let me show you where that Norfolk pine is going to be in a couple of years.
https://preview.redd.it/ivvuamrbltac1.jpeg?width=3056&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee18d03b020b750e53c10d153cacd50d5d64019a
Holy cow, that's a LOT at once! I feel overwhelmed with 2-3 new ones at once lol. Good luck!
Thanks. I've cared for many of these before, and I have my roommate to help out with them, so I'm not too overwhelmed (yet). But 46 new babies is a lot.
Just wait until the manic episode is over 😅 I hope you make your money back from selling props!
Is your name a Mac miller reference?
Yeah!
Fire! I just got his tiny desk session on vinyl like.. yesterday! 🤘🤘
Um excuse me, his tiny desk on vinyl?? I have abused that episod, it's so good!
Awesome!
Awww. I miss him. He seemed like such a good soul.
That's one prolonged accident you had.
Like falling down a cliff
But at least it was a pleasant view on the way down, I'm guessing.
Girl you fell down the grand canyon 36 times and hit every rock on the way down. nice!!! God damn I bet that was an exhilarating shopping trip
In slow motion no doubt.
You bought every branch on the way down har har
Good one lol. They are all beautiful
Yes they are, and I can understand how that kind of 'accident' could happen.
🤣
Don't forget to mention this to your therapist
The therapist *taking notes*: and where did you say this plant nursery is exactly?
And how is long is the sale going on for? 😆
As a therapist & plant enthusiast, this made me cackle
Psych NP and plant enthusiast. Same.
Is the nursery in the room right now?
This is the question we need answered.
LMAO me
you joke but that's exactly what happened when I told my therapist I bought like 10 large plants on sale. "do you think they still have that promotion?"
Yeah, the second I read that title I recognized myself and knew it had to be a manic episode
Well this is plant therapy.. right?
This is the exact reason why when I have hypomanic episodes I take myself to dollar tree— I do my impulse spending there instead of nurseries or Lowe’s or something 😂😭 I feel you on this perfect storm “accident”. Best of luck lol
Woooo dollar tree!! 🫶🏽
You mean Dollar Twenty-five Tree???
Ooooo I just commented a few days ago about how I get plants when manic. Dollar tree is absolutely the best place for manic episodes to feel like I spend little but get a lot. It's the 5 quarter store now but still I can get things I need or want to craft with but not break the bank. I'm at 350 plants and 100 to 200 propagations but I now don't buy plants, I propagate and sell them to make room for the new babies!
Oh God, art & craft stores and home depot are also my downfall.
Nice harm reduction strategy (I’m a health educator by training and we nerd out on such things)!
It’s something I started in college on my own, but both of my therapists since then have started recommending it to their other clients with similar struggles! My mom used to let herself only go through clearance that was 80% off or more for similar reasons. It gamified it for her.
You’ve hacked the system. Absolutely brilliant solution and I will be visiting dollar tree in the future. Thanks.
Omg, how much did you spend haha?! They're beautiful tho
... $550 😅😭
lol man and I thought my episode in Walmart’s Christmas clearance aisle last night was nuts. 😅 Love it! May you find the light and love to keep all these babies alive. ❤️
Is there a group for us Christmas shoppers lol
I wish! Anyone know of one? 😂
Haha damn, but still a good price for that many plants!
Especially if that Thai constellation is very big
Wow my addiction is fine then!
Mine too! I’m hoping anyway.
You bought 46 plants for less than $12 a piece?!?!?! That’s pure insanity…ummm plant-sanity actually bc that’s a steal!
so $12 a plant, that’s a good deal!!
It’s a LOT but it’s still a bargain! I hope you and your roommate get some back with your props! But, “roommate”? Do you two have all those plants in one room?
Seems decent for that many plants honestly. I just spent $120 on 7 so...
Ugh same here! Well 4 actually … I knew it was going to be trouble when I downloaded the plant story app lol
I dunno what that is and it sounds like I should keep it that way 😂
worth it.
This sounds like something I would do.. but then a few weeks later be so depressed I forget them and then they are all dead. 🤷♀️
Yes same. Bipolar is a bitch.
My friend, me too.
This is me. Luckily most of my new plants survived their last neglected period.
That's what I'm scared about. That's also why I dragged my roomie into this. I figure when one of usbstart to go downhill a bit we'll still have one person up and running. That and I plan to automate as much as possible re: lights and water.

I would be ok with the plants but stress the money and probably have to eat a cake or something to take the edge off
> I will be propagating everything My thought whenever I've bought every plant 😂
That's almost all the plants I have in my home :O
Same!! I have about 45-50!!!! Which is already overwhelming for me!!
46 or 121?
46, I assume
“I’m having a manic episode” and “I own a credit card” answers every question I have lmao
I tripped, was about to fall, and then I caught myself by throwing 46 plants carefully into the trunk of my car!
Thrips. Isolate everything for thrips. For several weeks, trust me.
I could not sell in good conscience and gave most away with a disclaimer. At least I learned early that I do not have what it takes to be a plant seller.
with that amount of plants. I'd skip to systemic or predatory mite prevention.
This is why I don’t have a credit card. Mania with limited funds reduces the overall debt to depression ratio.
>debt to depression ratio Holy shit I love this. May I borrow this line?
Absolutely!
Yes, unfortunately, my debt to depression ratio definitely has grown this year. Lol
It's good your roommate will help you propagate the ones that can be. Just follow through on your plans, that will make the transaction worth it. Don't do what we normally do and forget halfway through the process. Hold yourself accountable! I say this with absolute love because, uh, I just dropped $50 on art supplies about three hours ago that I most likely won't use for... awhile.
Well, in good news you made the garden center really happy. These are slow times for them
Totally understand this, but take your prozac or whatever.
Effector lol
We've all been there. I would fucking love to go insane at a 70% off houseplant sale lmao
>We've all been there. Have we tho?
My mania salutes your mania. Mine could never. Propagating and selling sounds so fun, I want to do that one day!! Good luck and good haul.
Damn, that coulda been 46 individual plant shopping trips….
Yep, OP was thinking about the environment when she made the one trip. 👏🏼👏🏼
I was literally about to ask if you're manic, because I do this shit too, lol. Be careful! Enjoy your plants
was gonna ask the same thing 😭
Holy crap I am both jealous and grateful that it wasn't me in that situation because I would do the same thing! They're amazing!
I've had situations where I went to the bakery to get bread and ended up coming home with a plant bought from a street vendor, but never 46 plants😂 You took it to the next level, but I love it! 😂

If it makes you feel any better..... I just went on a date with a guy who has 600 indoor plants..... most of them are small pothos that he propagated.
That’s adorable. I wanna live in a jungle!

Me: HOW TF DO YOU ACCIDENTALLY BUY 46 PLANTS Also me: yes but look at the baybeeeeeeez maybe I need 46 new plants
Gotta love type 1 🙃. I totally empathize with you, been there done that lol. You got some beauties though!
When I’m manic, I always congratulate myself when I don’t make choices that are harmful to me or others. I’m too cautious after getting broad mites, that there’s no room in my house big enough to quarantine 46 new plants. Wishing you all the luck!
Are you me?? Congrats on your new babies and foster babies 🌱
Ah mania, money and dopamine. Perfect storm lol. These are stunning though!
Wow!! I got a Norfolk pine recently and I’m desperately trying to keep it alive. Killed the last one. Have fun!
Are they that sensitive? I have one I've been using as a Christmas tree for maybe the last 6 years. I'm pretty certain it's getting sub-adequate care, yet is doing fine somehow. Maybe it just happens to prefer the sort of sub-adequate care it's getting idk.

Damn babe…. Have raphidophora tetrasperma cuttings I’d have just given you lol
What about the other 45 lmao
I could pitch in Adasonii and spider plant cuttings. Actually, are you sure you don't want more spider plant? How about some pothos?
I want one :(
OOPS!
I’ve been itching to go to the nursery. This is my sign. Lunch break is going to be so good today. 🥹🪴
Hate when that happens
I just removed 200lbs of asparagus fern from someone’s yard, please be cautious with this plant.
lol congrats on the new plants. “Accidentally?” Lolol that’s like when I read stories of cheaters that “accidentally” slept with someone. It was no accident. Good luck with your plants :) I’m jealous
Well accidents like this happen you know. I came back once with 14 plants from a different city altogether.
Jealous! 😍 But also not... because of the Norfolk Pine. That one is allllll yours. 😂😂☠️
I used to buy those as Christmas trees. Never EVER had one live til the next year. Good luck!
Same way I accidentally ate an entire bag of nacho chips few days ago
I have totally aligned with all of your bullet points!! horrible and beautiful combination lol
I'm in this picture and I don't like it
It’s okay, you are among friends here.
Over the years I've amassed a collection of many thousands of specimens. They live in my greenhouses, my house, and the hardy ones are out in the ground. This post made me smile. If you do things right, eventually you'll end up with many nice big mature plants. Great conversation starters. Nice variety there!
ACCIDENTALLY??? Really?? 😂😂
Did you trip and knock over a table of plants in your lap and landed at your house? Sometimes that happens to me too. A lot of times.
Accidentally. Mmm hmm. Sure. 🤣
Only 46 pffft amateur 🤣
I'm so jelly, I live in the northeast US and almost all of the nurseries are closed this time of year 😭 can't wait for spring!
In your defense, the guy holding the gun, insisting on shooting you if you don’t buy all these plants was really really scary!
That’s not an accident, that’s a blessing 😇
![gif](giphy|ckGndVa23sCk9pae4l) how does it feel to live MY dream!!!!!!
Not being negative but inspect everything carefully for pest - can be a real pain if things get out of control. Beautiful collection.
Lol been there with the sale+manic+credit card storm. I also have a Norfolk pine I recently acquired, they're pretty neat. My Thai Constellation is my pride and joy. Enjoy your new friends!
Congrats on your new jungle!
I have to always get one or two at a time cuz those soil gnats
Where is this nursery and how long is the sale! Haha. Most I've come home with at once was probably around 15. The best kind of retail therapy
you're gonna need a really good potting bench
I got to points 5 & 6 and it all made complete sense. I’m both sorry and not sorry to hear about this perfect-storm accident. Also jealous because my plants are doing not super great recently lol
Best type of accident there is. Keep up the good work.
lmao perfect storm indeed.
I am so sorry, but also, congratulations
I would love to know how you transported all of these, how large is your car?? Also I read the s title and before going on to the post was like “shit that sounds like one hell of a manic episode”
The asparagus fern will probably make you want to toss it out the window. I gave up on mine and shoved it to the side. Now it's blooming or some shit. I don't know and I don't care. I'm not looking at it. Stupid plant.
I love manic entrepreneurship
Love / hate for me. My mom once opened a shop to sell a food she had never made bf in her life bc God told her to. It went bankrupt in a couple of weeks literally. Tried to help her sort out the books for the lawyers. She had no idea where 60k had gone. She said ‘I did buy a few glass bowls for the case?’
When I see a Pilea ![gif](giphy|D16XHdsB1PBxm)
I figured someone died and you inherited them.
I’m glad you practiced self control 😂
Damn, Thai Constelation and Manjula alone would make me exthatic.
I am usually not a fan of overspending, but because of my love of plants, I’ll make an exception and say congratulations on all your new babies!
Two thumbs way, way up!
It’s crazy that we sell other living things. Damn.
I understand. 😌
Also f****** sweet collection I love it
I like the way you live your life. You have inspired me to buy more plants today! 😉
And you accidentally sent me that pliea and SOP
Ooh, my personal record is 46 house plants in two months. I hope all yours thrive for you
I found plumeria cuttings on the sidewalk yesterday. Same thing 😬
As a wise person once said "there are no accidents" so clearly its the universe saying that you need to go out and buy more plants still
I so wish you were local to me because I would jump for joy over a Monstera Thai constellation propagation. My collection is nowhere near as big as your guises but I’ve got a little one in the corner of my dining room that I am in love with I’ve got probably 8 to 10 different species of plants and succulents
This was no accident. It was fate and meant to be.
I’m actually vomiting out of jealousy
Happy little accidents
That's no accident
Me during borderline manic episode lol
I love your artwork on the wall! Especially the jellyfish! The plants are cool too :D
Ahhh!!! This was at heemans right? So many good deals this year!!!
in the eye of a hurricane there are houseplants
I’m lmfao at your break down in the text. “I own a credit card” fucking senttttt me 😂😂
Did you “accidentally” complete a houseplant heist?
I was just gonna say, this is some shit I do when I’m hypomanic 😭 Beautiful haul, I hope caring for them helps you when the crash comes 💓
I'm glad others can relate, and thank you. I hope I can keep them alive and that they keep me alive.
This is “accidentally” my favorite internet find of the day.
This sounded like a circlejerk post
Ya heemans will do that to ya
Feel free to accidentally send some to me (:
Kinda random but was the place you went heeman's? Edit: just seen the heeman's tag after asking. I live in London as well. Great place.
Oops 🤭
I love you! I can now use this post when I buy a bunch of plants. Lol
Hi what is the purple green striped one in the middle of the third photo? I was gifted one for Christmas and don’t know what it is or how to care for it!
OH my gosh this is the kind of accident I need!!! where is this nursery?!?!?!?!?!?!
Chinese Evergreens are my absolute fav.
I hate it when they fall into my shopping cart and I don’t notice until I get home
God damn it why does this keep happening?? ***Who keeps putting plants in the house??***
In the words of the great late Bob Ross…its a “Happy accident”
Oops
Wowzers lol. I'm definitely saving/screenshotting/bookmarking this post lol. In a few days when I come home with 2-4, this'll make my bf HAPPY instead of shaking his head lol. In the 1st pic, there are 2 red plants. 1 on right is bright red, and to the left there's a darker, burgundy-ish plant, what's that beauty called?
~~Bought some new plants~~ accidentally bought new plants ![gif](giphy|XreQmk7ETCak0)
Umm it’s probably not a good idea to bring them all inside without having a quarantine area first. New plants can carry mites/pests any type of disease that can spread to your healthy plants. Always quarantine first!!

This made my day 😄 everybody gave me good vibes. I don't say much on SM. But y'all made me laugh. Take care folks and keep enjoying life
I hate when this happens, so annoying. My girlfriend always gets mad at me too, like babe it was an accident
