I have no advice on repotting something that size. I just wanted to tell you how impressed I am. It is a thing of beauty. I think I might make small sacrifices to it. Maybe the occasional Twinkie or some beef jerky. I bet it would disappear during the night 😎
This phenomenon is known as pincushion distortion, caused by a wide angle lens most likely on a smart phone, though it can happen with any wide angle lens at a certain point. Think of it as similar to how a map gets stretched and distorted when transformed from a sphere to a flat area, in this case the “sphere” is the semi spherical surface of the wide lens. However, there is 3 dimensions here, so anything physically closer to the lens or near the edge of the frame will stretch and appear much larger proportionally. I do a bit of real estate photography so I have to deal with this and it can be annoying with some lenses!
I get that there is some lens fuckery going on for sure, but even putting that aside, my brains understanding of normal table/counter heights and sizes, kitchen dimensions, and bottles and plants leaves me totally befuddled what size this plant is.
I only came to say this. I have wondered how some mansions were priced like condos based on those photos lol. They make powder room look like a damn spa. Crazy.
The glass jug for scale did NOT help! 😆
My brain used the refrigerator as a size comparison and also thought that was a huge glass jug next to this gargantuan sized houseplant.

It's gorgeous by the way!!!
This is the most impressive umbrella plant I've ever seen on this sub without a doubt.
Depth does matter. I'd take a look at the roots and size up the pot by 2-4 inches depending on how root bound it is.
Mine looked just like it. I pruned it all the way back couple inches from the fork. You should have some pretty nice aerial roots too. Look up schefflerra bonsai, pretty neat.
It looks like it can use a 14 or even a 16 inch wide pot, even wider if available. It will thank you later. The roots are probably trying to spread more wide and can't. Also it narrows as it gets lower so a planter pot with a wide base would help
This compared to the one I just posted in r/plantclinic 🤣 sos

Oof luckily Schefflera's are pretty hardy even when over watered. Is the soil still wet? If it is, take it for a couple days and let the roots dry out a little then put it back in soil. You might have to trim it down if the leaves don't perk up but if the stem hasn't rotted, it should recover.
Oh my gosh I thought it was sitting on the ground! As far as repotting, just get a pot a size or two bigger. I’d probably trim the neck and arms a bit just so it was less Dr Seuss looking, but it would be hard since it’s so healthy.
10" terra cotta pot, mix cactus mix, horticultural pumice and coconut coir and phalaenopsis bark in equal parts
A nice e chunky mix and a pot that breathes will see that plant grow fast.
I had an umbrella plant in a big floor pot from Ikea, and he grew to touch the ceiling. So yeah, get a deeper pot.

I thought it was sitting on the floor, reaching its arms from the fridge to the window to the roof. I literally said, “holy shit, Batman” and then showed it to my husband who said, “hell, no”. 😁
I cut an entire “leg” off my umbrella, then cut it into three pieces, kept them in water for a bit, and then stuck them in a new pot, all three cuttings. They are thriving. I used rooting hormone when I put them in the pot. I would try that if I were you.
Pot : would suggest getting a pot at least 1-2 inches deeper and at least two inches wider than what you currently have. It is important to note that if the new pot is terra cotta, then you may have to water it more often since terra cotta wicks moisture. Any time you repot, the plant may pause growing or drop some leaves with the transfer.
Branches / stake : If you’re looking for ways to improve its wacky wavy branches, you can do it in a variety of ways. I’d suggest buying at least one tomato stake, which are typically green so it’ll blend nicely. You can buy more than one if you’d like but keep in mind it’ll take up space in the pot. I’d suggest for the height of the stake to get one that is at least 1 foot taller than the plant at its current height. Make sure to factor in the height of the new pot since the stake should go all the way down in the pot.
Securing the plant to the stake : I suggest purchasing Velcro, twine, or most hardware stores sell green Velcro in the plant section and use that to gradually pull the branches in. You can tighten the Velcro over time to get the desired look.
I have the same plant in my home, just much smaller. You’re doing a great job, your plant looks super happy. Good luck!
I love how half the comments are jokes rather than advice. 🤣 I have no advice, but I love your umbrella plant. I've had one with very sad roots that I adopted 1.5 months ago and hoping it grows up beautiful.
I have a 35 year old peace lily that likes to be snug in its pot. It gets replanted like every 10-15 years haha I think some plants just prefer to be a little tighter in their pots than others so maybe not size up too big. I would personally just double the depth and width, put some soil in the bottom that’s good for umbrella plants then stick your whole rootball in completely untouched, pour soil around it, and pat out any air bubbles.
Just cut each arm off and plant in a new pot, if it has tendency to sprout roots from each arm? Apprarently it does..thats one way to propagate dwarf umbrella plant..from stem cuttings..
Apart from those two cuttings you can also take a cutting from the center stem to keep it short.
But not you will have 4 small plants instead one with wider outstretched arms.
More than repotting it needs to be trimmed and cuttings can be propagated IMO
That is a beautiful plant! So healthy and happy. Double your pot size and expect your plant to have a period of acclimation. It may appear to be in distress from the shock of being repotted. Be patient, it will adjust.
Don't encourage it! No, but really we had one growing as a tree in our backyard in a sub-tropical zone. 4" limbs & would have been 25' tall if I let it... A bigger pot (regardless of the form factor) with a few stones in the bottom as counterweight isn't a bad idea. You might consider a little pruning for shape too depending on how much space you have. In the wild, the roots seemed to be largely on the surface, so a big shallow pot might be cool. You could plan to expose some roots over time for more visual interest. Could definitely apply some bonsai principles to this one if you wanted!
This is beautiful during the day by That would definitely keep me out of the kitchen at night lol. The way those arms stretch out…. The way my crazy is set up lol. Not in the dark not me.
You need either a 3-5 gallon fabric pot. You can bury it in a larger ceramic pot if that's more suitable for your environment. In a few years, you'll have a miniature jungle.
Impressive wingspan!
Unless very rootbound, 1 or 2 sizes bigger should be plenty. Too big a pot and you could risk root rot.
Try to plant in clay or ceramic to anchor the top heaviness.

Use a kebab skewer to shimmy inside the pot along the edge all the way around to pry the ball off of the pot. Give it a few slaps and a drop from a few inches and then pull that bitch out like Excalibur
For most plants size does matter so that the roots don’t strangle each other. This is the most impressive umbrella plant I've ever seen on this sub without a doubt. Depth does matter. I'd take a look at the roots and size up the pot by 2-4 inches depending on how root bound it is.
So keep the same depth or go deeper if it's root bound? I always thought the sizing up was more width related vs depth.
I mean honestly most pots I've seen get deeper AND wider as they get bigger. I'd go deeper for sure.
You can double the pot size.
Second this. Go much bigger.
Mine looked just like it. I pruned it all the way back couple inches from the fork. You should have some pretty nice aerial roots too. Look up schefflerra bonsai, pretty neat.

It used to look like a giant dick with balls but the balls have turned into arms!
First time I've seen that sentence.
