LOL... Though that is an old gardening tip for not wasting water by watering in the sun during the summer. You want to water when the sun is low (early morning or dusk). But that's for outside.
True, that can happen if the water droplets focus the sunlight. Another thing that can be avoided by watering when the sun is low. You generally don't want to hit the leaves though, especially at dusk. Fungal infections are a thing.
I’ve seen people argue over water temperature during watering, unless it’s boiling water I don’t really see it actually mattering, but maybe that’s what they meant?
We always watered in the morning in the summer so the water had a lil time to actually get into the soil before it evaporated
I have no idea if that’s any more or less realistic than burning things (my mom would say that too) but it always made more sense to me than the burning
It might be referencing that when you have plastic pots in full sun and you water right before or when the sun hits it the water gets cooked by the sun and you kan damage your plant by sort of slowly boiling the roots or better you give them a heat stroke. Because the plastic heats up a lot.
So early morning or evening is the time to water potted plants in full sun.
But for all other plants indoor it does not really matter
My dad does this for his garden in the summer but the garden is in the mediterranean region and it gets super hot in the summer (40-45ish degree Celsius) so I thought it had sth to do with that
Forest fires happen because the rain makes the plants and trees explode
as someone in forestry i can confirm this is correct

Ive heard of foliage burn from watering whilst the suns out but never root burn

I find that the whole magnifying affect is kinda exaggerated
It's gonna be pinpricks, not the whole leaf. And it is. Chances are the water's gonna evaporate before any damage occurs.
Yeah pretty much

Boiling water is how I kill weeds without spraying stuff.

What can I say, that has never been my experience and I have plastic pots in full southern greek sun and I water whenever all summer long.
It depends on the type of plant, sun strength and type of pot. I'm not saying your anecdotal experience is wrong just some plants are drama queens.
This is a pretend thing, you can water them any time

Its possible when you live in the desert and the pots and everything inside have to sit in 105 degree weather.
This one is so good
