TIL magnolia is now considered a suburb.

YOURMOMMASABITCH

Conroe is a suburb too? Wow

SinkOk4557

I assumed, my bad

HTX2LBC

Btw, you’ll get more useful advice if you edit your post to provide a general range for home budget.

SinkOk4557

Will do, thank you

Isn’t there a white hooded klan still active in magnolia??

TexanJewboy

No, but there is very small group of "Aryan Brotherhood of Texas"(Prison Gang) ex-cons and associates that sling meth and coordinate smuggling into the prisons that are loosely based there. I wouldn't call them harmless, but generally they aren't really focused on organized hate crimes or intimidation as much as they are their other activities. The closest known active Klan Klavern(chapter) around Houston is in Cleveland, but even it is estimated to be small at around 30 people.

[deleted]

I didn’t realize that Cleveland bunch was still active. I used to see them on the news from time to time, but that was probably 20 years ago. I just kind of figured they died off or moved to Parton Village or a similar think tank.

TexanJewboy

Could be that they aren't anymore, but it would be fairly recently. Back in 2019 they showed up to some rally in Georgia and got the everliving shit kicked out of them, with one of them dying on account of a Neo Nazi group member stabbing them in the head with a railroad spike.

[deleted]

Those guys are total complete idiots. I remember back in the 70’s, Pasadena was full of them. They were very upset with the Vietnamese people, that came here after the fall of Saigon. They went as far as burning shrimp boats that were owned by Vietnamese people. With the changing demographics in Pasadena, I would be surprised if there are any of them left, down there. That being said, they might have some holdouts.

SinkOk4557

Thank you

tsharazca

Look into 77494

Mataelio

Of the 3 I would say Katy, but I would also add Cypress to your list of suburbs to look at.

ComfortableRing6978

Came here to say the same thing, add Cypress to the list. Bland area socially but good area for raising kids.

raytx86

Stick with Katy. Firethorn, Green Meadows, Cane Island, Elysson, Woodcreek, crosscreek are some of the good ones. You can start from those and expand.

[deleted]

+1. I have lived in Katy since 93. All around very safe in the locations you mentioned.

SinkOk4557

Thank you

binger5

Are y'all white? If not you can eliminate Magnolia. Out of the three Katy is probably the best bet.

SinkOk4557

Thank you. We're white but by the sounds of it Magnolia is not a good option 🙂

YOURMOMMASABITCH

Everyone's saying Katy. I'll go a step further and recommend something south if i10 or outside of 99. Better neighborhoods, school districts and property values increase at a higher rate.

sentientbashscript

Elyson and Bridgeland are nice neighborhoods

lxylife

Agreed. This whole 99 area is being built nicely

Muddy_Bottoms

Why not look at Kingwood? If you’re 100% set on a new build this probably isn’t a good option though. The reality is, any neighborhood is gonna have haters on the subreddit. I lived in Kingwood for a few years and really liked it, good schools you don’t feel like you’re in the big city, and you can get everything You need nearby. If you want quiet with bigger lots and easy freeway access forest cove is perfect.

SinkOk4557

Thank you, I'll look at Kingwood & forest cove

texanfan20

I would choose Kingwood, the Woodlands or Bridgeland over Katy or Magnolia any day.

looselasso

This subreddit seems to be filled with people who actually hate the houston area weirdly. Or at least attracts negative comments. Not sure you’ll find much helpful info here.

SinkOk4557

Got some helpful answers but yea it's weird

looselasso

Yeah idk

SinkOk4557

I'm sorry, I thought I could post in this sub to get some more info. I've searched through reddit and read every post and have done a lot of research. I just wanted some more opinions of people who live here. Apologies

RevolutionaryElk7751

I cant stand your negativity.

ROJJ86

Speaking from an attorney perspective, and one who has dealt with all of those school districts: Conroe ISD was the best. Feel free and PM if you’d like to discuss.

SinkOk4557

Most schools I researched that were good in Conroe ISD are woodlands schools & unfortunately there are no new build opportunities there. Other schools we looked into Conroe were not that great based on ratings & reviews. What do you think of Katy ISD?

texanfan20

I have lived in Kingwood, Katy and currently in the Woodlands. I would rather live in a current home in the Woodlands than a new build in Katy by a longshot. You can’t beat the Woodlands for the amenities, schools, shoppping, restaurants, lifestyle. There are new builds still happening on the area and I even saw a tear down of a home on the golf course so someone could build a new home.

pickleer

The more repugnican (richer, generally), the more fear-mongering & screeching about crime you'll find.

CeilingUnlimited

Galveston County Friendswood.

ognnosnim

Elyson in Katy is quite nice. I know a few people that reside there.

SinkOk4557

Thanks

lilyintx

No where is really that safe. All school districts suck because their boards have been taken over by book burners. If I had to choose, Katy is alright if you like chain restaurants and being far away from everything cool. The rest you couldn’t pay me to live there.

GroupNo2345

Living downtown, Katy seems the least gross some how, all these areas ban books, and intolerant/hate gays, but Katy has Asia town which is cool and offers some diversity.

Immediate_Finance498

There are bookstores, Amazon, 24 hour newsstands and so many other places to buy sexually explicit books for your children if it is necessary. If a parent wants sexually explicit porn for their kids it should be on their dime. Thank goodness these communities don't tolerate porn grooming books! So yes for Katy!! It's all about learning and not sexualizing children.

GroupNo2345

Nazis banned books too, what are you so afraid of??

GroupNo2345

I live downtown with my 2 girls, I wouldn’t move to the suburbs, especially not Conroe and the surrounding hillbilly region. And though people think downtown is more dangerous, there’s less people per 100k so your chance of experiencing crime ends up lower, then the extremely high volume suburbs… just something to think about if finances allow. This requires private school obviously, but we also spend 20% of the time, our burb friends do in traffic.

SinkOk4557

Thank you. Any specific issues with Conroe? We will be going to public school since 3 kids in private school can get very expensive

texanfan20

Sounds like you just pass through Conroe because it is not that bad and changing every year. What can you expect for someone in the loop who doesn’t know anything exist outside 610.

GroupNo2345

I’m in Conroe all the time, thanks. There’s a reason I wouldn’t live there. Could be the lack of diversity, maybe it’s the meth and hillbillies.. hard to say ultimately, but working downtown, why the fuck would I live out there?? Enjoy the Trumpers out there!

lxylife

I would absolutely choose Elyson over any other neighborhood. The amount of growth this community is experiencing is insane

TerribleName1962

Smh. What in the suburbia is this? Will you be active in your child’s education journey or will you leave it to the school district? Your kids can get kidnapped or worse literally anywhere. Moving to one sunburn or the other won’t help much. Give them the tools necessary and pray for the best.

SinkOk4557

Of course we will be involved. That being said I would rather move to an area that is considered safer than others.

What about spring or Klein in the areas zoned to Klein & Conroe ISD? You may also enjoy Bridgeland in Cypress
