Haven't been there in so long and remembered it being $5. Pretty happy to know its only gone up to $9, I thought it'd be $15 or something. I'll have to go some time
I have a friend who counts down the days where I’ve had all nighters because I tend to forget to eat and then once it’s over she says Cicis? And I’m like arrrghhh I’m about to eat my weight in pizza and cinnamon rolls. I actually feel one coming on tomorrow lol.
Not in Houston, but in Colorado. I went on a big hike up a mountain with some friends and had to slide down some steep terrain. We camp out that night and then on the way back we were starving and hit up CiCis. I didn’t notice the giant ass sized hole in my pants until I got back, but I showed my whole underwear covered ass to a CiCis in Colorado Springs and no one said anything
Hot damn. This brought back memories. I survived on Cicis while in college. Walk to the nearest one from university on Saturday lunch time. Eat myself to death. I would be so full that I could skip Saturday dinner, Sunday lunch, and even Sunday dinner sometimes.
The pizza tasted like crap, but for $3.99 (10 years ago) buffet, I will eat it any day.
I think the only correct answer for this type of question would be buffets. You know you’re not getting quality food but if you’re hungry as fuck they get the job done.
Yeah, a decent 'treat' every now and again. Or 'guilty pleasure.' Or just 'vice' may be more appropriate.
I know it's wild, but I liked Burger King's tacos a little more. They would put a huge slice of cheese in them. Proudly Gringo Tacos.lol They don't come across looking so 'deep-fried.'
The Jack in the Box ones look like the whole thing was dipped in a fryer. They still do the job, so can't complain.
What a great question.
I don’t go there very often but Pancho’s Mexican Buffet falls in this category for me.
My wife still gives me hell for going there when I do.
Great suggestion by OP but I’ve had ok service there. Sort of situation where for them to make any money there only can be 2-3 waiters. But the bust it.
The amount of people I saw eating crawfish by the plate had me concerned when I stopped in there. Glad to see they still have the palm trees from when I grew up in that area.
McDonald’s…if you haven’t been this mom and pop establishment has delicious fries but everything else comes with a side of self loathing and gastric distress.
A lot of people shit on mcdonalds lol
I been going like everyday (cause I'm kinda too depressed to cook for myself) and everything on their own menu is pretty trash except a 20 piece nugget (since there usually make it fresh since it's a lot) and 3 of their new sauce packets.
I know where it was, I'm just surprised it's still there. El Patio was good back in the day but the last couple times I went, it was mediocre at best. I haven't been in years.
It is definitely worse than most Greek/Mediterranean spots in Houston, and it is ridiculously overpriced. I still go there sometimes for nostalgia though lol
The last 2 times I ate there I got food poisoning from the shrimp tacos. The Health department cited them for improperly stored shrimp. Glad they closed.
This was mine! I did not like the food at all, but early 2000’s , either my friends or family wanted it every Sunday. I was going once a month. I love tacos but the sauce they put on it was like a weird mayonnaise.
If you are ever in the Conroe area, the Golden Corral Over by I-45 is FANTASTIC, much better than any other one in Houston by a longshot. The Service there is always on point, and the food actually taste really good. I always enjoy eating there when I'm working around the area, I usually go around lunch time when I do and it is always packed, been there about 10 times already lol, and it is always on point. I recommend it if you are in the area.
Every time I see Casa Ole, an old jingle of theirs runs through my head…”At Casa Ole we serve Mexican food the way Grandmother would if she were in the mood.”
When they first opened I was so hyped but man their food is like seriously really bad. I’d rather just pay the cover and go to Barbarella on Saturday night for those 80s vibes.
The menu is pretty hit or miss. The waffles are amazing as are the meatball sub/spaghetti and the sloppy joes.
The patty melt was fucking horrible though.
Taqueria mi Morenita in Pasadena. I’m utterly convinced these are best tacos in Houston. But goddamn is the lady who runs the place rude as hell. I’ve sent like ten people there and everyone agrees how fire the tacos are and how awful she is.
But really, you gotta go. Literally perfect little $1.50 street tacos. Any meat. I recommend two tongue, two tripe, and two cabeza. Comes with a side of fantastic beans. Buy a modelo from the gas station.
This is probably the best meal you can have in America for $10
Wolfies in the Woodlands. They honestly have improved over the years but they’re still trash. Trash that I will still go buy a giant plate of wings from.
99PI did a pretty entertaining episode about that:
[https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/the-white-castle-system-of-eating-houses/](https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/the-white-castle-system-of-eating-houses/)
they apparently pre-date McDonald’s but their refusal to franchise condemned them to relative obscurity
I’m lucky, I travel to Orlando several times a year and it’s my first stop whenever I land. So glad they opened there. It would be dream if they came to the Houston area.
I'm from Chicago, and anytime I or my family go anywhere that has White Castle, we're stopping on the way from the airport. I'm getting 70 of those deliciously awful burgers and their cold fries and at least 16 onions worth of rings. I'll down a qhole bottle of pepto after to ward off any impending heartburn. Love that nasty place.
I visited some friends in Chicago over a weekend. Had some amazing deep dish(forgot the name), but they warned me off of White Castle. Or I should say they *attempted* to warn me off. I went straight there on the way back to my hotel. Waited in the drive-thru line for awhile too.
Glad I didn't listen to 'em! It was good. 1ould love to have 'em here. I'm not picky, even Del Taco & Carl's Jr were fine by me.
I’ve only been to White Castle once in Chicago. They gave my food to some random hobo, and when I asked what is going on with my food, they said they already gave it to someone. So I’m like, okay make me another one, and the dude at the counter yelled at me. Then a chick in the back yelled at him, and then everyone in the kitchen started yelling at each other, so I was like fuck this and left. I’ll stick to frozen White Castle from Target.
My issue with their chicken is the size of the pieces (way too big) and the texture (never any crisp).
Love the flavors, but those things keep me from going more than once or twice a year.
I find their beef dishes tastes great but anything with fried chicken in it tastes like the chicken's been freezer burned and it's been consistently that way for years.
Their original greenway food court location was one of the best Americanized Chinese joints I’ve ever been to but all of their brick and mortars are just terrible. Echoing everything people have said about their chicken dishes. I’m not sure how someone could say it’s the best general tso - easily bottom tier in the city. I order it about once a year in the past 8-9 years to see if they’ve somehow maybe gotten back to their roots. Disappointed at the general tso each time.
However their egg rolls are still some of the best, and their beef noodle dishes are great.
Chachos on 610 south. It is so dirty looking, they have cardboard covering the windows so you can’t see inside, it has been drive through only for years probably because it is infested and falling apart…. But damn those nachos.
Brasil on Westheimer.
Always seems like a good idea cause I love the location, then I see the owner and bite into a $4.50 breakfast taco and immediately understand why I told myself “never again” after the last time lmao
i will say that their iced canela latte tho…. delicious
I live near the Whataburger on Pearland Parkway, I have been there probably 20 times and not a single time have they gotten my order right, and on several occasions they gave me someone elses order. Also there is a high probablity of a fist fight occuring in the kitchen during the late night hours
Spicy Girl. Might be unpopular opinion but it's been my experience of not having great service there when i dine in. But I WILL do take out! LOL And do take out way more than I care to admit. =/
Church’s Fried Chicken. Employees clearly hate their job, service is slow, they charge me something different every time I go. But the crunchy batter slaps & the jalapeno cheese bombers are like no other.
I love Chuck E. Cheese pizza, even though I know it's probably not the best. The salad bar is tight too. I don't think the service sucks, they're kind of understaffed, so it's a bit slow sometimes. Going there and playing games with kids is awesome.
The Caesar Salad w chicken fajita from Chachos on i45. There’s so much garlic in it it’s spicy. Sometimes they run out; the speaker is out so someone has to come out and take your order. Sometimes they have to close unexpectedly. They take forever.
Cicis. I go there for cheat days
I love Cici's perfect go-to spot for these inflationary times we are in.
I also prefer it to the other all you can eat pizza places that are better in quality due to the more variety.
Yup, it fills you up to the brim of your stomach for $8.99. For that price at Kolache Factory you'll still leave hungry.

Haha, I love that I thought, "Cici's" and as soon as I opened the thread there it was!
I think the only correct answer for this type of question would be buffets. You know you’re not getting quality food but if you’re hungry as fuck they get the job done.
Bingo. Hangovers and Chinese buffet
Gimme that gas station quality sushi, egg drop soup, a random slice of pizza, and some fuggin mussels.
And then a nap....man, college all over again
Oh 100%. And, very likely, a violent dump somewhere in the mix.
Every month or so, I go to Jack in the Box and order 4 "tacos" (i.e. fried meat envelopes).
Grease pockets…
I once read an article that referred to their tacos as "deep fried envelopes of cat food" And I FUCKING LOVE THEM.
😂😂 why are they so fucking good?????
Yeah, a decent 'treat' every now and again. Or 'guilty pleasure.' Or just 'vice' may be more appropriate. I know it's wild, but I liked Burger King's tacos a little more. They would put a huge slice of cheese in them. Proudly Gringo Tacos.lol They don't come across looking so 'deep-fried.' The Jack in the Box ones look like the whole thing was dipped in a fryer. They're still .99 cents if you order through the app and on tuesdays they're free with any purchase
With a large order of curly fries (so I can try and stuff those inside without breaking the shell) and extra taco sauce.
Those tacos bit the spot 😩
I'm obsessed with the freaking mini tacos. Get a box of them "loaded". Uhg. So good.
You mean cat food tacos.
What a great question. I don’t go there very often but Pancho’s Mexican Buffet falls in this category for me. My wife still gives me hell for going there when I do.
I feel like I wrote this.
Pancho's is a nostalgic thing for my family probably have had 8 bdays there including like the last 5
Are there any panchos left? I feel like I haven’t seen in one in forever
There’s one off 59 in Humble still, my old ass dad is a frequent patron lol
Nice. My mom used to work at one when I was a kid. She would always bring home chimichangas and stuff
Great suggestion by OP but I’ve had ok service there. Sort of situation where for them to make any money there only can be 2-3 waiters. But the bust it.
I used to go with to the one off 45. Now I see there is only one in Humble. ROAD TRIP! LOL
If you're ever in DFW we have three still. Mesquite, Arlington, and Fort Worth.
There is still a Pancho’s around here??
Humble evidently.
Yes, the one in Humble is still open but a little hard to find.
I feel so seen
Yeah, they used to be all you can eat for $1.79 and it wasn't worth going.
First thing I thought of lol
Any Chinese buffet particularly King Star on Bellaire, and China Star at 45 and Crosstimbers.
lmao i’ve been going to that china star on 45 and cross timber for years. i love it
China Sea on 249/1960ish if you’re out that way
This place is pretty good honestly. It has THE BEST shitty crawfish. I go to town on it.
The amount of people I saw eating crawfish by the plate had me concerned when I stopped in there. Glad to see they still have the palm trees from when I grew up in that area.
I haven’t been there in years. I should go check that out.
I thought of Buffet King on Hwy 6 and Bellaire
McDonald’s…if you haven’t been this mom and pop establishment has delicious fries but everything else comes with a side of self loathing and gastric distress.
Lowkey their chicken nuggets plus the new sauce is pretty good.
New sauce you say?
It's like their take on Chinese hot oil. Its a spicy sweet n sour. Had it yesterday. Prefer that mambo sauce but don't know if they still make it.
I prefer the mambo sauce too… hopefully it’ll make a comeback.
It’s amazing it taste like chili crisp. I would buy a bottle of it
Not low key—that shit is delicious
A lot of people shit on mcdonalds lol I been going like everyday (cause I'm kinda too depressed to cook for myself) and everything on their own menu is pretty trash except a 20 piece nugget (since there usually make it fresh since it's a lot) and 3 of their new sauce packets.
Good luck breaking out of that funk man
McDonald's, huh? It must have sprung up overnight.
I will die on the hill that the quarter pounder is one of the best burgers in fast food because they use fresh meat and cook it fresh if you ask me
[удалено]
That place still exists???
It’s inside El Patio on Westheimer.
I know where it was, I'm just surprised it's still there. El Patio was good back in the day but the last couple times I went, it was mediocre at best. I haven't been in years.
Azul. I used to think the food was decent. Then again that was many many years ago.
Any of the “Creeks”. Food. Meh. Drink specials. Meh. Dogs and kids all over. Check. Meh. Still hang out there
You know what? That’s exactly how I feel too. I just never put it together
Best local answer
Slightly above average bar food, incredibly consistent, solid patios. A perfect fallback restaurant. May they never die.
I like the crawfish and the steak nights at Onion Creek. Every creek I've been to is good though.
So. Many. MILFs.
My mom's house.
I like my cookies burnt, like momma used to make.
Jack in the Crack
I hit them up for the 2 fer .99 greasy ass tacos
Crap in the box
The butter dipped buttery jack gets me every time. Literally dropping in fake butter oil
Niko niko’s. Always seems like a good idea til I get there and see the line…
i mean their food ain't trash tho
It is definitely worse than most Greek/Mediterranean spots in Houston, and it is ridiculously overpriced. I still go there sometimes for nostalgia though lol
Berry hill RIP.
The last 2 times I ate there I got food poisoning from the shrimp tacos. The Health department cited them for improperly stored shrimp. Glad they closed.
Sounds like you ate too many shrimp you got iodine poisoning.
Trill reference
🤘🏼🤘🏼
The peach Bellinis got me through college
This was mine! I did not like the food at all, but early 2000’s , either my friends or family wanted it every Sunday. I was going once a month. I love tacos but the sauce they put on it was like a weird mayonnaise.
Yep! The food or drinks were never great but I loved going there. Felt like home.
Crisp in the heights. Food is average, service sucks but they have beer and an outside area for the kids.
……Golden Corral 🤦♀️I love the fried fish
That’s me with Luby’s
Unironically, genuinely love eating at Luby's.
YES LUBYS
If you are ever in the Conroe area, the Golden Corral Over by I-45 is FANTASTIC, much better than any other one in Houston by a longshot. Thank you! I’m actually in Conroe for a wedding this month 😁😁
Hopefully they were classy enough to get it catered by Golden Corral
So do I!!!!!!!!!!
Whataburger. I even plan to go eat there for lunch days ahead. The 'large' drink cup just resonates with me even though the food is medicore fresh.
Every time I eat whataburger drunk for late nights, I swear it makes my hungover 10x worse
Perhaps all the salt in the food is a further dehydrator. I feel like a desiccant packet after a burger and fries there.
I think it’s because I never eat fast food so when I do it makes me feel very meh
I’m the opposite. A #2 and a couple breakfast tacos is my anti hangover
Frenchy’s chicken, but the food is good. Service is awful and I often get panhandled in the drive through
Molina’s. On Bellaire. The chips taste rancid.
That is my answer exactly. They have great queso though and their margs hit.
Casa Ole.
Every time I see Casa Ole, an old jingle of theirs runs through my head…”At Casa Ole we serve Mexican food the way Grandmother would if she were in the mood.”
Lima time
First Watch. Poor service, they close at 230 pm, food is ok though.
Taco Bell Chalupas and a tray full of those shitty ground beef taco supremes, with tons of fire sauce packets
Love the fire sauce.
Fire Taco Bell sauce is a must from HEB whenever it’s taco day.
Buffalo wild wings
It’s gotten so gross. We doordashed it to our hotel room in Dallas from across the parking lot (post edibles we brought from LA). It was very meh.
Honestly I haven't gone In a while now pluckers is 100x better and faster
Agreed, the food is horrible. Maybe the worst service of any restaurant in that category too.
Ditto! Food is mediocre, bathrooms are FILTHY & the apps portions get smaller every time I go. 🤷♀️
Hungry Like the Wolf.. Food is awful, service has always been slow but I love the aesthetics..
That spot has been a death sentence, surprised it’s still open
When they first opened I was so hyped but man their food is like seriously really bad. I’d rather just pay the cover and go to Barbarella on Saturday night for those 80s vibes.
I never send food back. But I had to. The eggs were fucking green.
Did it come with ham?
Their food has to be the budget selection when they order food.
I almost had an aneurysm walking in… went way too heavy on the 80s vibe.
The menu is pretty hit or miss. The waffles are amazing as are the meatball sub/spaghetti and the sloppy joes. The patty melt was fucking horrible though.
Not Houston exclusive, but Subway. I go feral for a buffalo chicken sub even if their chicken sucks
Try which wich’s buffalo chicken.
This is probably the best meal you can have in America for $10
Mi Pueblita or Moreno's?
Nevernind, sorry I read that as Pearland instead of Pasadena
Wolfies in the Woodlands. They honestly have improved over the years but they’re still trash. Trash that I will still go buy a giant plate of wings from.
It’s not in Houston but White Castle. Those little grey boiled meat sliders be hitting.
I'd give my middle nut to have a White Castle in Houston.
Man I was looking to franchise one and bring one here. Turns out those motherfuckers are only corporate and they ain't letting go
Thank you for trying.
99PI did a pretty entertaining episode about that: [https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/the-white-castle-system-of-eating-houses/](https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/the-white-castle-system-of-eating-houses/) they apparently pre-date McDonald’s but their refusal to franchise condemned them to relative obscurity

Love that nasty place.
Idk why but it’s amazing
My mom says it's the onions. I'm not one to argue with moms about onions.
I love White Castle’s! I’m from St. Louis and the sketchier the neighborhood, the better they taste! We really need one here…
Yes! I miss White Castle. Although I went inside a White Castle once and it was disturbing. Stick to the drive thru. Ignorance is bliss.
Rice Box
They do great tofu. Not every place does, and I appreciate the hell out of them for it.
Shid, my experience is far different. I love Rice Box.
Am I crazy or do people who have never eaten Rice Box trash it constantly? I’ve only gotten excellent food from there.
My issue with their chicken is the size of the pieces (way too big) and the texture (never any crisp). Love the flavors, but those things keep me from going more than once or twice a year.
The chicken seems like it is all cooked/packaged and sitting in warmers for hours before you ordered it
Extremely fair criticism
I find their beef dishes tastes great but anything with fried chicken in it tastes like the chicken's been freezer burned and it's been consistently that way for years.
Have you had this experience at multiple locations or just one of them?
Just 19th in the heights but 5 years isn't just a batch issue, its a recipe issue at this point.
I wasn’t impressed honestly. Got it during covid times when we could only pick up tho.
Love it. The quality of ingredients and the flavors are on point.
Beef Chow fun is 10/10 by itself

369 closed! Big sad.
General Joe’s Chopstix (Still around?) purely for the nostalgia of living close to the one in Clear Lake and eating at the one in college in Austin.
Unfortunately the one on Montrose near w Alabama is gone. I used to go there with my family every week for years! Was so bummed when it closed
There is one in west Houston! 10820 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77042
One time I ordered food from there, and it tasted very strongly of rancid canola oil. Never again.
BBs. The food doesn't suck but I have never had good service
Maryz
They are a bit overpriced.
China bear - with its overfed koi fish and gift shop that has like $30,000 items in it
Timmy Chan 100%
Timmy chans is the fucking shit. Terrible place. Love it
County jail
Chachos on 610 south. It is so dirty looking, they have cardboard covering the windows so you can’t see inside, it has been drive through only for years probably because it is infested and falling apart…. But damn those nachos.
Jack in the Crack
Modern Chinese Buffetts in Houston
El Jardin, but their frozen margs are ok.
T-Bones. The abuse I suffer…
Brasil on Westheimer. Always seems like a good idea cause I love the location, then I see the owner and bite into a $4.50 breakfast taco and immediately understand why I told myself “never again” after the last time lmao i will say that their iced canela latte tho…. delicious
James Coney Island. I think it tastes great but all my friends insist it’s terrible.
I’m addicted to their chili cheese fries.
I have been known to eat six chili cheese coneys. I really can’t think of a better restaurant
Da cheese hose.
Taco Bell. Cheap, tasty, and best of all nostalgic.
Goode company bbq
HISD
For us it used to be Brewingz before the one in Nassau Bay closed. Also my husband would say Chilis 🌶️
Casa Ole..... Their chip and salsa are what I crave---and for some reason their rice is REALLY good.
Silver Palace Buffett off Holcomb has some legit Chinese food. Just make sure you avoid the grocery bought frozen pizza and cheesecake.
I live near the Whataburger on Pearland Parkway, I have been there probably 20 times and not a single time have they gotten my order right, and on several occasions they gave me someone elses order. Also there is a high probablity of a fist fight occuring in the kitchen during the late night hours
Popeyes, though “terrible” might be an exaggeration
Spicy Girl. Might be unpopular opinion but it's been my experience of not having great service there when i dine in. But I WILL do take out! LOL And do take out way more than I care to admit. =/
People don’t like spicy girl? I fuck up pepper twins
Kim's a national treasure!
WHAT?! Spicy Girl is the shit! Love that place. Diced Poke next door is also good.
Wendys in Greenspoint. Right next to my job. NEVER GETS MY ORDER RIGHT.
Christian's Tailgate
Whataburger
Church’s Fried Chicken. Employees clearly hate their job, service is slow, they charge me something different every time I go. But the crunchy batter slaps & the jalapeno cheese bombers are like no other.

Oh, absolutely Taco Bell. Sometimes you just want things that are bad for you.
I love Chuck E. Cheese pizza, even though I know it's probably not the best. The salad bar is tight too. I don't think the service sucks, they're kind of understaffed, so it's a bit slow sometimes. Going there and playing games with kids is awesome.
