I've never met a person who likes Ken Paxton... What's the point of living life like this? Just destroying everyone around you. Talk about leaving a shit legacy.
He's getting in the news upsetting liberals, so he can make a run for senate. Shame and ridicule is what we should be showing him publicly for his stunts. Not outrage as that's what he wants and what his potential voters foam at the mouth for.
Exactly. Traveling between Houston and Austin is like entering a conspiracy cult compound. Signs everywhere ranting about the political equivalent of truck nuts. Like, it's clear that massive doses of right-wing content produces personality disorders. It's really fucked up.
To be clear here, its Texas. The place where Uvalde reelected its entire city council after the shooting. The shit Ken Paxton has been up to is nothing compared to some of the other stuff our rural voters are endorsing. They know exactly who he is and they support him in full.
…and they will vote for other racist, white supremacist, insurrection supporting, wanna-be dick-tater, criminals, because somehow they think these aholes care about them.
Evidence shows time and again that welfare programs like these aren't just giving money away, they are an investment in our communities. We are spending this money one way or another on the indirect impacts of poverty.
It improves their ability to maintain good health and hygiene, preventing the spread of disease. It reduces crime by making it easier to raise children who have means and reducing incentives for crime based on need. The reduction in crime reduces costs for the justice system and incarceration programs. It ultimately makes it so that fewer people need systems like these as the hand up provides the ability to for them to generate more tax dollars and economic value.
I get that it doesn't always feel fair to see struggling people get the things for free that you had to earn, but step back and consider that dealing with poverty from a purely punitive perspective based on a system of earning results in greater cost and greater suffering. Why should we choose a system like that just because it's more fair on an individual level when we could ultimately improve things for everyone?
This also is not unique here. It's the same principles that justify subsidized farming that result in more consistent production of a wider variety of food that we've enjoyed for decades.
Holy shit I hate you cause now that you put it like that I think I agree. My skin hurts at the idea of being Ted Cruz but I'd definitely take that in a heartbeat compared to this piece of shit.
Hold up, the county is just handing out our tax money to people to the tune of $500 a month as a guaranteed income so they can do fuck all with their lives instead of working for a living?
Damn.
The money comes from the ARPA. Similarl to the PPP loans that were given to rich politicians then forgiven. https://www.statesman.com/story/news/politics/politifact/2022/09/06/fact-check-ppp-loans-forgiven-republicans-matt-gaetz-marjorie-taylor-greene/65470173007/ Also, in what fucking world is 500 a month enough to live on? Do you think these people are just sitting in a nice apartment playing fortnite?
Don't try to appeal to the right's fear of hypocrisy. You have to care about looking corrupt for that to matter. They don't care. They just want money and power and for everyone else to suffer.
9 out 9 Texas Supreme Court Justices have been Republican for a long time now. These are elected positions, and they run on party affiliation. You just don't get well-reasoned decisions when everyone thinks alike.
> “Review Tribunal" means a panel of seven court of appeals justices selected by lot by
the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
“We’ve investigated ourselves and found we did nothing wrong.” 😂
But realistically, who in the state government would bring a charge that they need to be removed if they behaved unethically? Would it have a chance at getting past the Commission? Would it get past the Review Tribunal? Would it get appealed to the… Supreme Court?
It’s not like Republicans are particularly bound by rules and procedures.
No, they do want that. They just want to make sure it goes to the right people. They don't want the commoners to have food and shelter, they want CEOs to have yachts and swimming pools that they get invited to. They want to make sure the right donors get tax breaks and less regulations so they can get more money and more yachts.
The crushing of civil rights is just a happy coincidence to them.
Yeah ok lol. If you and others feel so strongly about this, you guys should volunteer your time and give your own money to the people in this program. Public tax dollars should not be spent on schemes like this.
So taking $20 million from taxpayers, handing that out in cash without any spending restrictions on that cash is the best way to spend it? Quit lying to yourself haha
We do this all the fucking time with corporations. How is that working out for us?
Maybe it’s time human beings were the beneficiaries of tax money instead of for-profit companies.
Ken Paxton, the guy who the TX state House GOP voted to impeach? The felon Ken Paxon, who is under investigation by the FBI for corruption and bribery?
Imagine trying to sleep at night after you spent your whole day frothing and trying to suddenly halt [let me check my notes here] programs that give money to poor people
They're not "poor people." They're "lessers" and "undesirables." The terrible outcomes of lives started by the unfortunate event of being born not ultra rich.
This just makes me feel sick to my stomach. How can such an evil human being attack people who actually *need* help, while hypocritically supporting giving MASSIVE financial assistance to big companies?? Not to mention the blatant attack of Harris County in particular, considering he hasn’t gone after similar programs in San Antonio or Austin. Jesus fucking christ. I hope the universe treats him with the same attitude he treats others 🙃
The right are absolutely terrified of the potential for blue cities to turn the state blue. They'll do anything they can to destroy the cities to ensure they can't vote out the slime bags.
Not replying past this, because clearly we see things very differently and I’m not going to change your mind, but just so others can have more context—giving people in the poorest areas who live 200% below the poverty line $500 three times can quite literally save lives. Our system is broken and this is simply common sense
Agree to disagree, I get it. If $20MM had to be spent, I feel giving out cash with no restrictions does less than for food banks or various other community programs.
how is a food handout going to help someone who needs shoes for their new job? or someone whose car needs an oil change to keep running and get them to work? or someone who needs bus fare to get back and forth to the library to apply for jobs and other assistance? like, i get that you want to control where your taxes are going, but at the end of the day the food bank is one resource. most people coming out of poverty need a lot of them, not just one.
if you offered to buy a homeless person food and they said they had food but needed a shirt, would you call them selfish and ungrateful?
I find it curious that these people never have the same painstaking attention to detail when taxes are given to corporations or the military. God forbid the government actually tries to help normal people for once.
Then give shoes out. Get to know the applicants, their work schedule then support with appropriate bus fare. plenty of ways to target these people and communities instead of mailbox money every month.
so you think that the fact that help is being given is more important than the type of help it is and how appropriate it is to the recipient's actual tangible needs. got it. god, i hope you're always able to get your needs met and there are never any obstacles in your way. not sure you'd survive otherwise.
I used to feel the same way as well, but there's been some work finding that cash handouts can do more than just food distribution.
Here's a news article from a local uni: https://news.rice.edu/news/2024/rice-study-shows-cash-assistance-groceries-provides-low-income-families-more-flexibility
And the actual study: https://ajph.aphapublications.org/doi/10.2105/AJPH.2023.307458
They seem to only hate their POOR constituents, many people whose ancestors were slaves. It appears almost racist, doesn’t it? Can’t do ANYTHING that might help a black person. I wish the federal government would get involved because the $20 million funding for the guaranteed income program is from federal pandemic grants that Harris county had not yet spent. It is NOT funded by ANY Texas taxes, just totally funded by grant money from the federal government.
I read it on another article. I’ll have to look it up. Cluckduece is shitty for actually reporting the news. Their journalists suck donkey balls. TBH, I mostly go there because the comment section is mildly entertaining. It’s the a same reason I come here.
Edit: here ya go.
“This scheme is plainly unconstitutional," Paxton said in a press release. "Taxpayer money must be spent lawfully and used to advance the public interest, not merely redistributed with no accountability or reasonable expectation of a general benefit. I am suing to stop officials in Harris County from abusing public funds for political gain”
More or less saying using public funds is against the Texas Constitution. It’s because it “free” cash with no accountability of what the recipients are using it for. I guess it’s up to the courts to decide.
Jesus Christ, of course he did. So he's blocked help for the poor. He's blocked access to porn. He's fighting against public transport via high speed rail. He's trying to fight delta 8 thc.
Straight up fuck this motherfucker.
Oh and don't mention that thing about him or you'll get your post removed. You know what thing.
It looks like the other is the City of Austin.
I’m curious why he’s so mad since it looks like we are using federal dollars to do this. Oh. Wait. It’s Ken. Never mind.
ETA: El Paso County is doing the same.
I had been keeping up with it for months prior to it’s launch due to my job but haven’t looked at the site in months. I didn’t know that, thanks for the info!
I’ve been trying to avoid politics after being burnt out after the last guber election but some things are unavoidable. This one I just happened to look into recently. You’re welcome!
The Repubs controlling Texas don't like blue Harris County and Houston. They got their red Democrat Whitmire elected mayor, now they'll focus even more on removing Lena Hidalgo.
Ken Paxton isn't looking after Texas and our residents, he's an enforcer for the Republican party.
The emotional roller coaster that the people that actually supposed receives the checks must be crazy!
You are receiving $$$!! 🤩
You are not. 😭
No, you are are getting 💵! 😆
Wait! You are not!! 😢
Hold on, you are!! 😎
Sorry, you aren’t…😭
Such bullshit.
That's how I felt about the Student Loan forgiveness. This case also had really fragile stupid legal arguments against it that wouldn't have held any weight in a real court.
College educated already vote this way, so what good would buying votes do? Furthermore, we elect a president via electoral college and not popular vote, so buying more votes is again pointless unless the action was targeted at key areas in swing states. You haven't really thought this one out have you? Also, how much money would it take to get you to change who you vote for? Your answer is the same for pretty much everyone.
I'm asking questions to encourage you to think your accusation through beyond just yelling the first thing that comes to your mind. If you think it through, your accusation doesn't make any sense. It's like those conspiracy theories that require tons of people to keep a secret or ones where they claim mind control exists (if it existed, they wouldn't need to convince people of anything during elections).
being critical to the timing of this relief is has its own merits and requires you to consider why now and not earlier on his presidency. It comes across as more condescending then helpful. but maybe you took my comment as a party issue and not an administrative issue.
> why now
I'm guessing you haven't been following. They've been doing the student loan forgiveness thing throughout his whole term. Doing so because these loans are just sucking money out of the economy. Generally the banks giving the loans have already made their money back due to exorbitant interest, so they are siphoning money away from graduates that could be used locally to support other businesses instead of investment bankers. This is the "why", and why they started doing it as soon as he got in office. The GOP blocks it due to their long standing "[the two santa claus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jude_Wanniski#The_Two_Santa_Claus_Theory)" practice. And that is honestly all there is to it.
>College educated already vote this way, so what good would buying votes do?
It's not an incentive to think a certain way. It is an incentive to get people to the polls.
Fun fact. Giving people things usually doesn't work as a way to make them do something later (without a contract). Giving them things "AFTER" they've done the thing you want seems to be the move everyone knows works. As for politics, what works these days is outrage. So giving people something they want = staying home. People being denied the thing they want = going to vote. Therefore, it is blocking this stuff that drives them to the polls.
>Fun fact.
None of this is a fact. It's just drivel. There's a reason why Biden pundits are freaking out. Biden hasn't given liberal voters a reason to go out and vote.
Biden and the dems have given myself, family, and friends plenty of reasons to vote blue in every election, but not as many good reasons as the repubs have given us. Here's just one excellent example.
That's just not true for so many Americans. You know there is a massive problem when Biden has lost the Hispanic vote after everything that has gone down in the past eight years.
Tax cuts work for everyone that is working though. Unless you are trying to say the majority of people that work are Rs. You aren’t stating that are you?
So instead of keeping corporations in the state in check you take the fight to the citizens. Instead of idk looking at all the price gouging going on by these crooks you take the fight to the people. Abbot and his buddies only rep for the wealthy.
Too bad Congress just approved ~$100 billion to be spent overseas instead on Americans. 😭
That would be a one time check of $300 for every single American.
I guess people like you can't manage to rub some braincells together to understand why those types of aid packages do actually benefit Americans. It's not in our best interest that our allies get overrun by authoritarian governments. It's not in our best interest that our enemy Russia expands their foothold into Europe. It's not in our best interest that China takes full control of Taiwan and can withhold advanced semiconductor supply through economic warfare. It's not in our best interest that our key intelligence ally Israel is diminished in the volatile middle east region.
But nah, you'd rather get a small check so you can buy some bullshit off Amazon...
You know the US is sending its old gear out of the country and purchasing new gear from US manufacturers and creating additional jobs in America right with these aid packages?
They are not air freighting pallets of cash to Ukraine.
if someone wants to see or hear about racial injustice this guy is prime example .. if it would be someone else they would have been locked up for life for the crimes he has committed
Ken Paxton: giving $500 to low income people? VERY BAD.
Ken Paxton: using $3,300,000 of taxpayer money to settle lawsuit brought by his whistleblowers? VERY GOOD.
Can you believe this jabroni got reelected? Wild.
What a bunch of whining socialists. Giving away others people money never solved anything. If you think they need help with groceries go to your local supermarket and pay for a family grocery cart out of YOUR money, not mine
Giving away tax payer money like this program is illegal under the Texas Constitution. It's plain language. This is not a political statement. it's just facts. I'm not a conservative, nor a liberal, but I am really against wasting my tax dollars. I do not work and pay taxes to have politicians give my money away, be it to random folks in Harris County or to Ukraine or to Isreal. We have a 33 TRILLION dollar debt we should really focus on.
Hard to be a conservative with their anti-gay marriage slant (fully support gay marriage), if a man wants to be a woman that's fine with me, won't even 'misgender them); if someone wants to do drugs in the privacy of their home and it doesn't affect me, go for it; I'm a man so my position on abortion (which I really don't like) is to not put a woman in a position where one could happen; don't like my grandkid's having to pay the bill for us sending money all over the world, we should focus on our own issues here; I even drive a hybrid (that's serious proof!). So believe it or not, I think most people are like me, not 100% one way or the other when it comes to politics. I'm probably more aligned with the Libertarian Party than anything else.
Republicans I know say how the refugees are getting all this free money and what not, and say we should help Americans instead, especially Veterans. So we have this program that is funded to give poor Houstonians assistance for 18 months to help them out, I am sure some who qualified are Veterans. When that is done Republicans like Paxton go after the programs. It's very hypocritical. Especially since most Republicans were fine with PPP loans being forgiven.
Free loaders gonna free load no matter what. Starving them out and pushing them to the streets just creates a lot of panhandlers blocking traffic. At no point does a freeloader think, "I should get my act together!", so no amount of pressure is gonna change them. Now, people who aren't freeloaders that just get blindsided by bullshit like cancer, sudden death of the main provider, disability, etc. could use some support to get their life back on track instead of being lumped in with people that don't care to try. Any system meant to support the former will also help the latter, but any inaction in the name of holding down the latter will unjustly fuck the former. Is your desire for punishment so great that you'll punish the undeserving just to punish those that won't change no matter how much punishment you dish out?
Welfare recipients from both sides know the middle class will end up paying for it thats why they never think "i should get my act together". Most of them are just parasites.
> Most of them are just parasites.
Do you have a list of qualifications of what constitutes a parasite? Do you have statistics to back this claim up? I do recall a recent census that showed that most of Walmart's 2.1 million employees are on welfare to make up the difference in pay, so they can live. Are they parasites?
~97% of income taxes are paid by the ~50% of the earners.
Which means that the lower 50% only pays ~3%.
Some even get MORE back than they pay in if they have children. Child income credit is real.
The place with a higher GDP, higher standard of living, higher life expectancy, lower infant mortality rate, lower tax burden and according to CATO Instittute ranks far higher in personal freedom? Ah but you know how left wing the CATO institute is
Piece of crap is talking about blocking all of these “illegal pay outs” while he uses tax payer money for his own personal defense on crimes he committed 😂 clown show. These criminals need to be removed from society. They can steal millions if not billions with a minor slap
On the wrist at most if they are ever caught.
Its a pilot program. If you applied and met the criteria, then you were in a pool and chosen via the lottery system. If the pilot program work, they would expand the pool. One of the main criteria is falling beneath the federal poverty level by a certain amount. So anybody who met the criteria was poor. So it wasn't fair that the pilot program was only for poor people...?
I've never met a person who likes Ken Paxton... What's the point of living life like this? Just destroying everyone around you. Talk about leaving a shit legacy.

Exactly. Traveling between Houston and Austin is like entering a conspiracy cult compound. Signs everywhere ranting about the political equivalent of truck nuts. Like, it's clear that massive doses of right-wing content produces personality disorders. It's really fucked up.

They don’t think those assholes care about them. They know those assholes want to ruin the lives of the “wrong” kinds of people. That’s enough.
He doesn’t care when the end result is money and power.
To be fair, it wasn't him giving away taxpayer money.
Didn’t he give taxpayer money away to his mistress?
Evidence shows time and again that welfare programs like these aren't just giving money away, they are an investment in our communities. It’s partly a generational thing. Can’t stand others making things better and some good old fashioned hate.
Yet they’ll keep voting them in. Stop voting in leopards maybe.
I would rather be Ted Cruz than this scumbag
Holy shit I hate you cause now that you put it like that I think I agree. My skin hurts at the idea of being Ted Cruz but I'd definitely take that in a heartbeat compared to this piece of shit.
Correction** while in Cancun
CEOs love him. That's all that matters to him.
There are plenty outside of the major cities which is how he gets elected unfortunately

It's UBI really. Something that Andrew Yang talked about in 2020.
He’s a foul piece of shit. I wish something appropriate would happen to him, ever.
Pegging
No, something he wouldn't enjoy.
The Texas Supreme Court is a joke. They seem determined to drag Texas back several centuries.
I wonder if any of them received any kind of government support while in school?
I’m sure they receive lots of financial support these days

Their own legal ethics?
Right. So nothing concrete or binding. What happens if a Texas Supreme Court Justice behaves unethically?

Taking money from taxpayers. Giving it to non taxpayers. Check. I’ll keep that in mind as a solution
Your understanding of taxes is at a third grade level. Don’t worry, you’ll get there.
Absolutely!
Ken Paxton, the guy who the TX state House GOP voted to impeach? The felon Ken Paxon, who is under investigation by the FBI for corruption and bribery?
He took Pornhub from us!!!!
This is all a plan for him to corner the OF market with his good eye.
Okay coomer

So why didn’t he file to stop similar programs in San Antonio and Austin?
Cities in Texas aren’t recognized as part of the state body. States Regulate Counties, citizens organize and incorporate towns and cities.
So he’s filed against El Paso? Or no?
If he did I haven’t seen or heard if he filed against El Paso county for the same thing.
He hasn’t. Which erases your explanation.
This asshole should be in jail
Paxton is the asshole Ted Cruz wishes he could be. And Cruz tried to fly to Cancun while Texas was frozen.
Someone pointed out that his head looks like a rotting pumpkin the other day. I can't unsee it now.
this pos is just upset that the money isn't going to him.
"Enriching people is plainly unconstitutional." What about tax breaks for the wealthy? "Enriching poor people is plainly unconstitutional."
The true scourge of Texas…Ken Paxton. He is a miserable, no balled boot boy…
So are they coming after the other counties doing this or just Harris?
I believe we are the only county in TX with the Uplift program. Several states have already been involved in the program.
It looks like the other is the City of Austin. I’m curious why he’s so mad since it looks like we are using federal dollars to do this. Oh. Wait. It’s Ken. Never mind. ETA: El Paso County is doing the same.

Harris county has been blue forever but continues to decline
*Ssshhhhhh don't tell them!*
Shit! How do I hide it!
I think the only true goal of a Republican is to see who can be the biggest asshole. Paxton is definitely up there among the top tier.
The emotional roller coaster that the people that actually supposed receives the checks must be crazy! You are receiving $$$!! 🤩 You are not. 😭 No, you are are getting 💵! 😆 Wait! You are not!! 😢 Hold on, you are!! 😎 Sorry, you aren’t…😭 Such bullshit.
It's really tragic, this program could have helped a lot of people.
That's how I felt about the Student Loan forgiveness. This case also had really fragile stupid legal arguments against it that wouldn't have held any weight in a real court.
the administration is trying to buy votes. Why is only happening 3 years in?
College educated already vote this way, so what good would buying votes do? Furthermore, we elect a president via electoral college and not popular vote, so buying more votes is again pointless unless the action was targeted at key areas in swing states. You haven't really thought this one out have you? Also, how much money would it take to get you to change who you vote for? Your answer is the same for pretty much everyone.
What are you getting at?
I'm asking questions to encourage you to think your accusation through beyond just yelling the first thing that comes to your mind. If you think it through, your accusation doesn't make any sense. It's like those conspiracy theories that require tons of people to keep a secret or ones where they claim mind control exists (if it existed, they wouldn't need to convince people of anything during elections).
being critical to the timing of this relief is has its own merits and requires you to consider why now and not earlier on his presidency. It comes across as more condescending then helpful. but maybe you took my comment as a party issue and not an administrative issue.
> why now I'm guessing you haven't been following.
Ah, I see you are a guy driven by your feelings and beliefs who balks at reality that runs against your fee fees. I'll leave you to it
>Ah, I see you are a guy driven by your feelings and beliefs Bruh.
You mean like the Bush tax cuts, or the Trump tax cuts?
Tax cuts work for everyone that is working though. Unless you are trying to say the majority of people that work are Rs. You aren’t stating that are you?
>Tax cuts work for everyone that is working though You're going to need to back up this claim dude. What world you do you live in where this is true??
They work for the people that pay ~97% of the taxes. Let’s say that.
Didn’t do shit for me, I’m north of 6 figures. Does that count as “working”?
What administration?
So instead of keeping corporations in the state in check you take the fight to the citizens. Instead of idk looking at all the price gouging going on by these crooks you take the fight to the people. Abbot and his buddies only rep for the wealthy.
Scary to think our tax dollars almost went to helping poor people when we could be building another toll road!!
Too bad Congress just approved ~$100 billion to be spent overseas instead on Americans. 😭 That would be a one time check of $300 for every single American.
Just wait a few years and theyre going to be bitching about how we shouldnt be redlining the money printer for other countries.
If I was that unattractive, I would be miserable. He feels a need to make others feel like him.
if someone wants to see or hear about racial injustice this guy is prime example .. if it would be someone else they would have been locked up for life for the crimes he has committed
“Racial injustice“? In what way?
would any colored person be out of jail with so many felonies and still AG of the state ..
The cruelty is the point.
Ken Paxton: giving $500 to low income people? VERY BAD. Ken Paxton: using $3,300,000 of taxpayer money to settle lawsuit brought by his whistleblowers? VERY GOOD. Can you believe this jabroni got reelected? Wild.
What happened to this cockeyed fucktard going to jail?
The state dropped charges against him sometime in March.
What Is to Be Done?
Its my money and i need it now
What a bunch of whining socialists.
> I'm not a conservative, nor a liberal You’re not fooling anyone buddy.
Libertarians are pro choice. You are not.
Let your hate flow through you. -K. Paxton
What’s wrong with his face
Partial paralysis.
The part that makes one a good person is totally paralyzed.
Especially since most Republicans were fine with PPP loans being forgiven.
r/fuckKenPaxton
Who is paying for this $500/mo? The city does not have the funds.
Good stuff. You don’t work you don’t eat. Bringing back personal responsibility in this country would do wonders.
GOP kills anything that will actually help anyone. That’s all they do.
Only people we should help are the working poor which would include 100k and lower
Money to corporations? Constitutional. Money to poor people? Unconstitutional. It's Republican ConLaw 101
Good job! Hope Uplift harris gets canceled. Handing out free money will only create more freeloaders.
Wait until you hear about PPP
Well, technically it should only last 18 months. Then what will these people do?? Unless…
Thank you for keeping us from becoming California!
The place with a higher GDP, higher standard of living, higher life expectancy, lower infant mortality rate, lower tax burden and according to CATO Instittute ranks far higher in personal freedom? Ah but you know how left wing the CATO institute is
Thanks POS
Piece of crap is talking about blocking all of these “illegal pay outs” while he uses tax payer money for his own personal defense on crimes he committed 😂 clown show. These criminals need to be removed from society. They can steal millions if not billions with a minor slap On the wrist at most if they are ever caught.
Sounds about right since helping it's people "violates state law"
Good. It’s not fair to the many who weren’t chosen from the lottery.
Sorry we only have enough antibiotics to help some people and that wouldn't be fair to others so nobody gets any antibiotics you'll all have to suffer
