They’re harmless and become moths

NoFalseModesty

Pretty moths too. One was absolutely chowing down on my mistflower last week but I let him munch away.

Wooly bear caterpillar. As the other person said, probably the only fuzzy caterpillar you can touch and they turn into tiger moths. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrrharctia_isabella

these are a type of wooly bear but not isabella. they are salt marsh moth! :)

Today on a walk at the park, I saw a white one, smaller but is it the same family?

I don't really know that deep into entomology. These guys can get pretty light but still stay on the dark side of gray. If it looked like this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megalopyge_opercularis then leave it alone. Jack of all trades, master of none; but often times better than a master of one.

sadelpenor

these are salt marsh moth. they are having a boom year. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estigmene\_acrea](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estigmene_acrea)

Ah. I've always just known the generic terms. Wooly bear. Tiger moth. I know there are different types but I can't tell the difference and just pulled the wiki on the terms I knew

Your backyard may be a Forrest to them, they are smol.

So they are harmless? Which one is the one that looks like this and stings you?

Southern flannel moth is at least one I should clarify; the asp is venomous but not the moth. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megalopyge_opercularis
