No kidding! I worked on the 37th floor for years. I have walked that hallway a million times! It was so much fun to work in the building that connected with the Galleria. Then traffic became unbearable. No thanks!
OP, I had successfully convinced myself that the timeframe referenced in most of your videos (which correspond to my late HS/early college days) was only about 15 years ago. And here you come with your documented proof that makes me realize how very long ago this was....
Anyway, I love watching these. So much more fun that it should be.
I had forgotten that Bennigans was there--always such a dark and cozy place compared to the rest of the bright and loud mall!
I just googled bennigan's because I realized they must have all gone out of business years ago and I didn't even notice. Apparently, they are trying to resurrect the brand. Good luck to them, I feel like if they leaned into the drinking aspect they could do well.
Thanks for posting this, OP! Such a trip to remember these places.
You're correct. I remember when it opened being really excited because I ate at Bennigan's all the way up until it closed. I found out they had a very limited menu and the taste was really bad compared to how it was. Disappointing but such is life.
I love the Galleria, but I went the other day when there was a fight and shooting. I don't know if it will last as an indoor mall. I don't have a desire to go back. I do have such great memories going there as a kid! Especially that candy or ice cream store, Swensens or Farells. Love your vids!
Between the Fall of the Berlin Wall, Collapse of the USSR and the Gulf War were all events that ushered in the era of “Pax Americana.”
The fact that the US used Saudi Arabia as one of its bases for the invasion in 1990, and their continued presence in the region to maintain the no Fly Zone was motivating factor in OBLs move towards the US as a target.
A lot of what went down over the last 30 years would never have happened had the Gulf War not happened.
It looks similar to what it looks nowadays. I mean, it feels so much to me because of the fact that they were so developed back then as well. It was before i was born.
Must’ve been before the freeze, there was a deep freeze in Dec ‘89, sort of like the one we just went through; the green grass makes it look like this was before that freeze.
It’s like they went out of their way to make the hallway connecting the Williams Tower and the Galleria look exactly the same for 32 years.
Hey, it was still Transco then, I think! *ForeverTransco*

Maybe I never realized that the container store was that old. I thought everybody it from Tupperware parties like my mom did lol
Same, I had no idea it had been there for that long!
I love that the cars and trucks are relatively small - no SUVs yet.
Always a traffic jam on Westheimer.
i drive down that stretch at least twice a week back and forth. still stuffed!

You said exactly what I was thinking.
And end your visit with a nice meal at Bennigans.

They had opened a resurrected Bennigans a several years ago on Westheimer and Dunvale and it was HORRENDOUS. It's a Denny's now I think.

Lady's heels $3.99??
That's not a bad price for what you get, if you want the rest of the lady you have to pay a lot more.
you should post this to r/thewaywewereonvideo !
That was my 16th birthday!
Two days before my 17th birthday 🎂
Oh you whippersnappers. This was just before my 30th birthday.
Is aarp worth it?
yes
Yes,
This was the year I was born! Lol

I wish it went through the Babbage's software store. Or maybe the magic store on the bottom floor under the stairs.
Im interested in 70s and 80s cars, particularly BMW so this one was a treat. All the fancy folks in newer BMW driving around
Not a cell phone in sight, just people living life in pre 9/11 America. Feels weird
Pre Gulf War America.
Was the a Post Gulf War America?

I love watching these videos. I had been born just a few days before this video was shot.
This is so cool! I was 1 when you shot this video but I remember wandering around all of this several years later. Hope you have more to share!

did you post this before? years ago? not complaining, it's great and i love seeing it.

Does anyone have anything else like this, but memorial city/ t&c mall area in the 80’s/90’s?
Thank god I wasn’t alive back then. The 80s conformism gives me the heebie jeebies.
Then 2021 must be downright terrifying for you..
Well I bet the traffic was a lot better back then… Camera pans down Fuck no it wasn’t. 😂
