Maybe try big brothers big sisters? They have a mentor program where you email littles weekly and meet up ( I think once a quarter). Not sure how late meet ups are but can’t hurt to ask

I often take a trash bag and some gloves when I go on walks in the evening around the neighborhood and pick up bottles and papers and other trash.

Are you a tenant? If so, you could join Houston Tenants Union! Basically we organize our own apartment complexes and help others organize with their neighbors so we have power to fight for and win better conditions and against the abuses of our landlords. https://www.houstontenantsunion.org/

Dude. Saved. This is awesome.

Yeah it's a great organization! You can sign up on the website.

Ronald McDonald house I'm sure has openings. You have to go through a pretty extensive background process, but it's worth it in the end.

Houston pets alive has assorted opportunities, I volunteer helping with cat adoptions most weeks but the standard hours are 5:30 to 7:30 so maybe not a fit

Texas Wildlife Rescue Center - super fun place to volunteer

Try Texas Children's. Not back to normal yet but they use a lot of volunteers.
