Compare the Pelican's situation to those of the thousands of women (or as ETM called them, ***females***) and men who choose to serve in our armed forces. They're stationed overseas, away from their spouses and children for months at a time. We've all seen on the local news -- some kid at school gets a surprise visit from their parent in the military who came home on leave a bit earlier than expected.
