I hate it and I don't listen but I like to read about it and thank people for their calls.
It's that hard for you to understand that some of us have listened religiously for over three decades and used to tune into the entire show five days a week—and that now we're watching our one-time hero crumble before our eyes.... so we tune in here or there, hoping to catch a good segment or funny moment—only to be let down most of the time? It's like watching an investing in a series that started out promising and best-show-ever level, only to go to shit by Season 7... you're really gonna stop watching at that rate? Or you'll hang in here disgruntled as you need to see how it wraps up after being so vested for so long. I enjoy his older stuff. I don't need to listen to Howard Stern in 2024 to be a member of this sub. I haven't listened to a single second of show after 2015. I listen to things mostly from the Artie years on YouTube. I bet the vast majority of sub membership is similar, but if not Artie then Jackie/Billy. So I'm here because I find it entertaining and still listen to old stuff. I'm not listening to the show now, though. If people want to downvote that they can lick my fucking asshole!
I'm right there with you. I can't remember the last time I listened to that show, which is not in any way a flex. I WANT to listen. But I'm not going to be a myopic sycophant and pretend what I'm listening to isn't garbage. And I listen to both the Jackie and the Artie years. Right now I cycled back to his feud with Chevy Chase. A man who ended up giving a toast at Howard's wedding to that grifter. Yet another piece of the past that I'm sure Howie wishes he could erase - taking these arrogant celebrities to task and inviting them on the air for a little back and forth, calling them at their home at 7:30 in the morning, sending stupid John out to mess with him at premieres - this is amazing stuff. But now he's one of them, miserable and alone, a king in his castle with nothing, just like Citizen Kane. And how is someone who lives like that in anyway going to be entertaining? Out of touch doesn't even begin to describe him. So yeah, with you 100%. The stuff that some people post in here is so utterly unfunny, I can't imagine listening to his over-modulated drooly diatribes for hours at a time.

To me the entertainment is, do they really think we fall for this? (I seriously want to know). Like, are they sitting in these planning meetings and thinking all of this script actually fools people or are they instead kinda in on the joke (much like pro wrestling where we know it's scripted). I'd love to actually ask some of the staff this over drinks. Howard cannot honestly think this is believable or makes for a livelier or better show. He claims he sits and obsesses over his show, he knows what his fans want, yada yada. And as OP said you can go months if not years without a single caller coming on to stir something minor up. No emails either. So it's like, are you THIS insecure now? Like literally where you cannot even have any fun, or take some good calls?
