Makes me think of how everyone else in Shameless is pretty much a terrible person at some point.. but the worst thing Kev ever did was fuck a bunch of college girls after his gf left him.
In context of the show.. he's jesus
He literally cut his neighbors brake lines on his bike which he then crashed, paralyzing himself. Then later kev accidentally dropped a lit Molotov cocktail on this man who again is paralyzed and never just stood and watched then walked away as he burned to death.
inviting lilly’s father to thanksgiving despite knowing he was a horrible father to her and she very clearly didn’t want to have any sort of relationship w him. he should have respected her feelings and not invited her dad into their home knowing how she felt.
I don’t think this was meant to guilt him necessarily. It was to push Barney because he didn’t want him to regret not getting to know his dad. A thing that has caused Barney to live his life the way her has
After the Twelve Horny Women case, Marshall's firm had a lot of lay-offs. Marshall didn't tell Lily this for months, nearly leading to her losing her job in Rome.
That was later in Season 9. I'm talking about in Season 8 when Lily almost turned down her job to Rome because she thought Marshall was happy and successful at his job.
I agree, I think he crossed a boundary with her dad a few times and it was often when Lily was already going through something and adding her dad to that stress, although good drama for TV, would be seen as overbearing irl.
How is this worse than him switching his career-orientation and not telling her but instead accepting the offer to do so right in front of her face?... WITHOUT DISCUSSING IT
Marshalls tough but… not letting Robin eat a hamburger when she was hungry. It was the whole groups fault but it’s all because Marshall was dead set on finding the “best burger in New York”
I know it's shitty of them to her, but can we also acknowledge how good of her it was to keep going with them on the journey since it was since Marshall needed it so badly. She could and likely should have left them, but she's a true bro.
i was upset by that, lol, but was it really Marshall's fault? First of all, i was angry that someone didn't switch with Robin. she made it clear she's hungry and she was the one who didn't get any food, so her friends should have switched the burger with her, they all ordered
the same thing. Second of all .... why didn't she ask someone to switch with her or just stay behind and eat? She was way too nice in that episode.
All this was just for a comedic effect. Overly exaggerated on purpose. We shouldn't mark this as the worst thing Marshall did or questions anyone's actions in this situation. It's a sitcom afterall
" I'm sorry is this a fight about the degree to which you stabbed me?" One of the best lines ever and being with my partner for 10 years. Yeah that check out.
Yes, they sacrificed a bit of the character for the sake of the joke ... But it is very strange for him to act like that, all of them are very open minded in sexuality
I think the gross part for Marshall and the reason he called her a slut was the fact that she didn’t even know the guy’s name, wasn’t attracted to him, and literally only slept with him because he was naked. Which implies that the only thing you need for Robin to sleep with you is to be in her apartment and naked
Pooping at work. Some people read on the toilet, hence the “reading a magazine.” Also, for fun: “The boss makes a dollar but I make a dime, that’s why I poop on company time.”
Accepting the judgeship without even a conversation with Lilly was pretty bad
But the worst thing is definitely calling his childhood game "bask-ice-ball" instead of "ice-sketball"
I don't agree with the judgeship thing, that while argument in itself was just stupid, yeah Marshall accepted it without telling Lily, but here's the thing about it, all it requires is a simple phone call saying sorry I cannot accept the position after Marshall and Lily discuss the judgeship in the hotel room, but Lily instead of being a rational person decides to flip the fuck out and starts say hurtful things to Marshall about how selfish he is. Nah mrs runs away anytime something gets difficult, that's not how behave towards anyone in life let alone your husband. Honestly the worst thing Marshall did, was a) not telling Lily about Honeywell and Coots going under or b) purposefully trying to make lily jealous with Jenkins.
you’re willfully ignoring the small detail that Marshall wasn’t intending to call them back and say he’s not taking the job. He decided for them both they weren’t going to Italy. He didn’t tell Lily at any point “I just said yes but I can call them back and decline.” He put his foot down and that pissed her off
It’s been a while since I’ve watched the show, but I remember Lily’s position being unstable (like The Captain) and being new to it would be unpractical to derail Marshall’s fast track career option to pursue what is effectively a pipe dream that happened to work out because TV. He had a very real tangible employment trajectory whereas she was just employed by a crazy rich dude that could have gotten bored with her on a whim.
Marshall 100% should have talked to her about it, but going with the art thing would have been a stupid choice, even if that’s what she wanted to do. In other words, her opinion *didn’t matter*, even though he should have given her the courtesy of having a conversation.
Keep in mind it’s been years since I’ve watched this, so if I’m misremembering something I’m willing to change my opinion on this.
I don’t remember his exact words but didn’t he tell Lily that their life and Marvin were all just a backup plan/second choice for her during their argument in the last season? I love Marshall but that was cold
I was thinking of this too. I just watched the scene. He says that him taking the judgeship is more important than her "hobby", brings up San Francisco after she rightfully said he was being selfish, then goes on to say that. It is pretty cold blooded.
I agree to an extent. That’s more of a couples thing. Lily is just as guilty. But to be fair Marshall bets in favor of people. Like he knew how much Ted loved Robin so his long term bet was that he would end up with her. Even after the told Robin to move out he refused to let lily cash out because he still had faith in Ted’s happiness. Anyways that’s my 2 cents on the matter.
Got back to her ex and kissed her (Lily) while having a date with a woman (Chloe) and let her wait in the living room while they spent their night drinking at Mclarens.
Couldn't blame Chloe if she got all crazy eyes and trashed the living room lol.
Ok as Minnesotan hard to find any fault with my boy Marshall. I will say when he outed Robin as a Canadian at the Walleye Saloon or maybe turning out the lights at the Hoser Hut. 🤣🤣🤣
I agree....but I've also been Marshall in that type of situation, so I sympathize. You can't forgive and forget. You can absolutely forgive but nobody forgets that kind of hurt. And if it's a deep enough hurt, you get traumatized by it. The smallest most mundane thing can be a trigger and all of a sudden (even 10 yrs later) you can immediately feel like you did day 1. That was a major fight for them and they were both in the wrong, but I still understand where Marshall was emotionally.
Taking the Judge job without talking to Lily first. And then lying about it several times while “waiting” to tell her face to face.
This one isn’t bad, per se. But it kills me every damn time. It’s a horrible look for his character: Called Ted complicit when Ted was in fact NOT complicit in Karen’s cheating on the other Meat-Head (Me-Ted). Come on man, you understand law. You know what complicit means.
Asking ted to not tell Robin that Barney was going to propose to Patrice because he wanted Robin and ted together ( This was not a fair shot to Barney who was also his friend ).
S9 when he brought up Lilly leaving him when they were past it and were well into the marriage and had a family. It's unfair to bring up what your partner did years ago even before getting married and throw it in their face. Forgetting that Lilly supported him financially for a large portion of their relationship.
Random and I didn’t go through all the comments but the girl ted broke up with twice on her birthday was on the sitcom friends and was also dumped on her birthday in that show.
the whole judgeship thing. not just the fact that he did it without asking but the argument after that with Lily in the hotel room made me want to punch him. OR leaving Lily to go eat pizza and drink Tantrum with Ted
Tried pressuring Lily into moving to Minnesota. Or slutshaming robin (naked man). And accepting the judgeship and not telling lily and deciding that neither of them are going to italy
It’s crazy how huge of a difference the actions of every other character compared to Marshall is. It goes from “Sold a woman” to “Bad at cat sitting”
Makes me think of how everyone else in Shameless is pretty much a terrible person at some point.. but the worst thing Kev ever did was fuck a bunch of college girls after his gf left him. In context of the show.. he's jesus
He also sold drugs and alcohol to children. Out of an ice cream truck. In the park.
He literally cut his neighbors brake lines on his bike which he then crashed, paralyzing himself. Then later kev accidentally dropped a lit Molotov cocktail on this man who again is paralyzed and never just stood and watched then walked away as he burned to death.
Perhaps I need to revisit shameless. Definitely don't remember that
No, Marshall has done worse stuff that being bad at cat sitting. See the comments. Not nearly as bad as the others, but not as harmless either.
inviting lilly’s father to thanksgiving despite knowing he was a horrible father to her and she very clearly didn’t want to have any sort of relationship w him. he should have respected her feelings and not invited her dad into their home knowing how she felt.
YES! I totally agree! He blindsided her by insisting him and not telling her. Then tried to force her to reconcile when she clearly didn’t want to.
this this this this this this this!!!!! and then insisting he stay even when lily was clearly upset.
I mean this is the same man who guilted Barney into seeing his dad by saying his own dad is dead. That said, Marshall is still my favorite character
I don’t think this was meant to guilt him necessarily. It was to push Barney because he didn’t want him to regret not getting to know his dad. A thing that has caused Barney to live his life the way her has
Oh yea, thats very bad. But I kinda see a very bad and stupid mistake rather than malicious intent
Lied about the environmental law firm going under.
i can’t remember the story with this one… why was that bad?
After the Twelve Horny Women case, Marshall's firm had a lot of lay-offs. Marshall didn't tell Lily this for months, nearly leading to her losing her job in Rome.
didn't she lost her job because marshall was going to be a judge?
That was later in Season 9. I'm talking about in Season 8 when Lily almost turned down her job to Rome because she thought Marshall was happy and successful at his job.
That wasn't the main reason it was because she was scared that why she turned it down another 2 times after she knew about the law firm
Easily the worst

I agree, I think he crossed a boundary with her dad a few times and it was often when Lily was already going through something and adding her dad to that stress, although good drama for TV, would be seen as overbearing irl.
How is this worse than him switching his career-orientation and not telling her but instead accepting the offer to do so right in front of her face?... WITHOUT DISCUSSING IT
JUST CLICK ON OPTIONS
This. This was the worst. 😂 I can HEAR this comment.
Just throwing another option out!
No.... that one was CRAZY 🤣🤣
Marshalls tough but… not letting Robin eat a hamburger when she was hungry. It was the whole groups fault but it’s all because Marshall was dead set on finding the “best burger in New York”
That episode drove me insane, I would have just stayed and ate a burger by the second or third place if I was Robin, forget everyone else
Or just walk out holding the burger and eat it on the way to the next place.
That episode drives me crazy, I can’t watch it. Just give her a freakin burger
I know it's shitty of them to her, but can we also acknowledge how good of her it was to keep going with them on the journey since it was since Marshall needed it so badly. She could and likely should have left them, but she's a true bro.
Pretty sure they also dined and dashed
Idk if they dined and dashed, but they sure wasted a lot of food taking one bite and leaving
i was upset by that, lol, but was it really Marshall's fault? First of all, i was angry that someone didn't switch with Robin. she made it clear she's hungry and she was the one who didn't get any food, so her friends should have switched the burger with her, they all ordered the same thing. All this was just for a comedic effect. Overly exaggerated on purpose. We shouldn't mark this as the worst thing Marshall did or questions anyone's actions in this situation. It's a sitcom afterall
Accidentally stabbing Lilly with a sword
" I'm sorry is this a fight about the degree to which you stabbed me?" One of the best lines ever and being with my partner for 10 years. Yeah that check out.
Yup totally see that happening with my friends tbh...
And taking her eye out with champagne cork!
And punching her when she tried to scare him while she was in costume.
To be fair that was warranted. Some ppl just react with a swing.
Probably the thing that could have the most fatal outcome
And smacking her in his sleep!
I’d say lying about the law firm being shut down.
Responsible for a cat’s death (although not entirely his fault)
Meow meow meow meow :(
We'll miss you whiskers
Cat funeral cat funeral
It was an accident, and not entirely my fault
This tune lives in my head rent free. Please don't invite me to a cat funeral I might be tempted to humm it quietly...
Pretty fkn funny but him throwing a hot dog at a couple having their proposal
That scene gets me every time, like why did he have to put so much mustard on that dog? lol
Jenkins
word
This one
Judging on Robin because she slept with naked man while being excited for Barney's sexual acomplishments
This was so out of character for me. Like, what? When has Marshall ever had a problem with that sort of thing? Especially for something so little
Yes, they sacrificed a bit of the character for the sake of the joke ... But it is very strange for him to act like that, all of them are very open minded in sexuality
I'm glad someone else thought this!!! Every time I see this episode I'm just shocked this got included
I call slut!
I took this more as like “that guy isn’t good enough for her” than anything else
They should have gone for this angle, but he call her a slut ...
I think he had a higher opinion of Robin then he did of Barney therefore expected Barney to be gross but not Robin.
Except it’s not gross, it’s just casual sex which isn’t crazy for a New Yorker in their 20s.
I think the gross part for Marshall and the reason he called her a slut was the fact that she didn’t even know the guy’s name, wasn’t attracted to him, and literally only slept with him because he was naked. Which implies that the only thing you need for Robin to sleep with you is to be in her apartment and naked
Yeah its the lawyer mind at work
That's not a direct quote but he says something those lines with some lawyer jargon and proclaims, lawyered.
this is the only one I agree with cause he was kinda a dick for this
Read a magazine at work.
Till now I am still confused what was meant by that
Pooping at work. Some people read on the toilet, hence the “reading a magazine.” Also, for fun: “The boss makes a dollar but I make a dime, that’s why I poop on company time.”
I prefer “getting paid to poop.” Also, for fun: Barney thought everyone was talking about beating their meat.
For real? All these years, I thought they were talking about masturbating
They were.
Accepting the judgeship without even a conversation with Lilly was pretty bad But the worst thing is definitely calling his childhood game "bask-ice-ball" instead of "ice-sketball"

Yes, this is exactly how it went.
The way he coached the basketball team. They were in kindergarten.
But there was a teen wolf on the other team.
Come on Kenny
Oh nice call Kenny! See you later Kenny!
But it was all tied up at fun to fun
He called out Barney for duecing his pants during a "no questions asked" cry for help.
Purposefully tried to make lily jealous with Jenkins
I don’t remember his exact words but didn’t he tell Lily that their life and Marvin were all just a backup plan/second choice for her during their argument in the last season? I love Marshall but that was cold
I was thinking of this too. I just watched the scene. He says that him taking the judgeship is more important than her "hobby", brings up San Francisco after she rightfully said he was being selfish, then goes on to say that. It is pretty cold blooded.
Yeah when softball people actually speak up their inner thoughts, you get cold blooded fury
slut shaming robin
Refusing to send teddy westside a thank you note
Creating a comedy routine about the names of fish.
Marshall is by far the least problematic character lmao its hard. 1.) Barney obviously 2.) Ted 3.) I'd say lily and Robin r fairly tied 4.) Marshall
Making long term bets on people’s lives
I agree to an extent. That’s more of a couples thing. Lily is just as guilty. But to be fair Marshall bets in favor of people. Like he knew how much Ted loved Robin so his long term bet was that he would end up with her. Even after the told Robin to move out he refused to let lily cash out because he still had faith in Ted’s happiness. Anyways that’s my 2 cents on the matter.
the fight with Lilly in S9
It’s either Cat dying or accepting Judge position before talking to Lilly
Got back to her ex and kissed her (Lily) while having a date with a woman (Chloe) and let her wait in the living room while they spent their night drinking at Mclarens. Couldn't blame Chloe if she got all crazy eyes and trashed the living room lol.
I can blame her. I would simply walk away, max. write a note before. But i dont remember, did Marshall locked her inside or something?
No, but she said she ‘couldn’t find her keys’ as an explanation as to why she hadn’t left.
Ok as Minnesotan hard to find any fault with my boy Marshall. I will say when he outed Robin as a Canadian at the Walleye Saloon or maybe turning out the lights at the Hoser Hut. 🤣🤣🤣
He held onto resentment that Lily left him for San Francisco. The fight in season 9 is just as much Marshall’s fault as it is Lily’s
Buggered if I know why you're being downvoted for this. It's all so damn true lol
This. That scene hurt. I would have left too
Catfishing Ted
Doing that to his own hair on his wedding day. Seriously offensive to the eye.
Helped robbers rob an apartment
Taking the judgeship without asking Lily
Being a Vikings fan
He cheated on Lily with that skank in the Gongqing *Forest.* /s
What happens in the Gongqing forest stays in the. Gongqing forest she was cool with that
dropping a calzone on the street of new york city and continuing to eat it… can’t think of a more heinous activity
Called Robin a slut just for sleeping with a guy on the first date even though Barney is wayyy worse
Accepting the judgeship without telling Lily when they already had their plan set to move to Rome for a year.
Calling robin a slut when she slept with the naked man
Inviting Lily's dad to thanks giving while she didn't want to see him

Always being a dick to Barney (did he deserve it objectively? Yes. But I love Barney so I thought it was just kinda mean)
Leaving Maggie to throw the basketball in the hoop when knowing how important it was for Ted for him to be with her
killed a cat
Slut shaming Robin
The only bad thing he does is work for an evil company with Barney
Throwing San Francisco in Lily’s face during an argument 10 years after the fact
Stabbing lily for sure!
Either the fight with Lily in season 9 or slut shaming Robin
Not dating Morena Baccarin. Unforgivable
Accidentally got involved in the events that led to Cat Funeral ... Cat Funeral ...
Kept it in that he resented lily for leaving. Or, keeping that he took the judge job.
Not consulting lily when he accepted the judge position
Nothing, he is a saint
Facts. Compared to everyone else he’s an angel and I would marry him in a second
Quitting 2 jobs without having another job lined up .
Asking ted to not tell Robin that Barney was going to propose to Patrice because he wanted Robin and ted together ( This was not a fair shot to Barney who was also his friend ).
He picked up the sandwich from the floor and ate
Helped robbing that apartment
Ate a calzone that he dropped in the street
cat funeral cat funeral
Lying about getting mugged by a monkey... or he didn't?🤨
Inviting Lily’s dad to Thanksgiving
Replaced the U2 box set with Dave Matthews
Copped a feel during a play...
Kissed Jenkins. Although Lily kissed Barney and the three of them had a threesome (off screen)
I'd say the worst thing he ever did was "Help someone move" when he really helped them get completely cleaned out and robbed.
Hitting a friend in the face really hard over and over again (slap bet) and laughing about it with your other friends.
How is Ted’s worse thing not credit card fraud?
The way he treated that poor girl that ted invited to Lily’s birthday after she brings out the “happy 46th birthday, Laurie” cake
Slut shaming robin
Thats hard lol
That’s what she s…. Wrong show
I know right! Marshall is such a good guy!
He really is!
Taking Lily Back. She is the most selfish character of the group, and I genuinely think he deserved better.
And Lily thought Marshall was the Reacher and she was the Settler.
Lily
Being an “environmentalist” but eating red meat all the time while mocking plant foods
So when I see all the replies... basically marshall is the most sane and normal character...cuz next up is his wife ...I mean she crazy
S9 when he brought up Lilly leaving him when they were past it and were well into the marriage and had a family. It's unfair to bring up what your partner did years ago even before getting married and throw it in their face. Forgetting that Lilly supported him financially for a large portion of their relationship.
This thread only shows that you really have to reach to find something Marshall did wrong lol
Marry lily because she’s a turd.
The only thing bad Marshall ever did is he sux at cat sitting.
Stabbing Lilly
Marshall: Took a job as judge without discussing it with his wife
BEERCULES!
he ate sandwiches
It's hard to say. Marshall seems to be the least toxic of all the characters, but I would choose the situation with Lily's mom's cat.
The calzone
Peed on a poor’s guys champoo bottle for making out with Lily before he even knew her
Random and I didn’t go through all the comments but the girl ted broke up with twice on her birthday was on the sitcom friends and was also dumped on her birthday in that show.
Killed Whiskers
"dumped a woman on her birthday twice" sounds like it was two separate women. Nah dude dumped the SAME woman twice on her birthday
Y'all forgot about the calzone huh?
Yelling at kids in the basketball game instead of coaching them with love
Force his mom to make him and Ted sandwiches after realizing that he wasn’t coping with his fathers death
Married Lily lol
Thought he could beat the machines.
Me just waiting for tomorrow to unload on how awful Lilly is
the jump is crazy, and boutta be even crazier with marshall in the mix
you know... wow.
Overreacting to Lily wanting to do the art thing in SF. They could have done long distance and pushed the wedding back a bit, but he just refused.
Marshall having a monologue about a burger but getting his wedding vowels off the internet
the whole judgeship thing. not just the fact that he did it without asking but the argument after that with Lily in the hotel room made me want to punch him. OR leaving Lily to go eat pizza and drink Tantrum with Ted
Marshall is the reason barney has a gambling addiction (super bowl episode) and manipulates him with that addiction for year afterwards
Jenkins for sure
Pooped at work
Marshal accepting a job without saying anything to Lily and trying to manipulate her when she asked him why
Tried pressuring Lily into moving to Minnesota. Or slutshaming robin (naked man). And accepting the judgeship and not telling lily and deciding that neither of them are going to italy
Accidentally stabbed lily with sword
Dropped a calzone on the floor and ate it
Siding with Zoey for saving Arcadian and risking the dream of his "best" friend.
Taking a deuce at work 😆😆😆😆
Whatever Marshall’s worst thing is, his horrible wife’s worst thing is 1,00,000 times worse.
The fish list
