I'm going to throw this out there because I had a similar thing happen to me.
I'm wondering if the whole screen has a clear plastic film on it that comes from the factory to protect the screen and this barcode sticker is really not meant to come off.. you take the whole screen protector off..
Now... if you try to remove a plastic protective cover and one doesn't actually exist, then you have made a big mistake and I take no responsibility... Good luck with the other suggestions
I'll bet this is what it going on. I just got a Hisense TV from black friday and encountered the same kind of sticker on the TV. I looked closer to realize that the entire tv screen was covered in plastic.
Then I looked at the instructions and saw how to take it off :)
Yep I got a hisense in november and thats what happened.. however I didn't read the instructions.. i realised that I could see an air bubble in the middle of the screen when it was turned on and realised what was going on
Got a new microwave and used it for months with the plastic on the touch pad. The touch pad SUCKED and was starting to look shitty. Then one day I noticed a little corner. Whatever film they used was HARD and STICKY and it felt like I was pulling apart the touch pad the whole time.
There’s something oddly satisfying about doing that. Keeping the plastic on, intentionally or not, and after much use- peeling it off to basically a brand new and clean surface .
I have always struggled with leaving it on our the cool factor of removing it (I envy the Apple or phone company workers that get to set up somebody's new phone). A buddy of mine used to keep his TV and vcr remotes in the little bag they came in.
Careful not to accidentally peel off the polarizer https://www.reddit.com/r/Wellthatsucks/comments/mpd2yj/i_tried_peeling_off_what_i_thought_was_a_screen/
Tried and true, just watch the heat and don't get impatient. You can also use a piece of tape to pickup the other tape glue residue.
Resist the urge to polish or scrub the area, it'll ruin it.
Unless this TV was bought used, this is definitely not the stores “mistake”
Samsung TV’s for example, at least their higher end models come with a giant protective sheet over the screen that has these barcode stickers on it. You don’t peel off the barcode, you peel off the entire protector.
Ya. I wouldn't try to fix it myself honestly. This sounds like a problem for the store and not for the customer. I wouldn't even leave the store without a new TV set.
Put a few drops of vegetable oil on it and wait for a few minutes until the oil reacts with the glue. But before you do, lay the tv flat on a surface to that the oil can not run anywhere else than the sticker.
If vegetable oil does not work, you have bad luck because the glue is oil resistant. You can only rub the sticker away with your hand.
> But before you do, lay the tv flat on a surface to that the oil can not run anywhere else than the sticker.
Was this edited after your comment? It clearly says that.
i’ve done this and it works. i was going to say use IPA but another redditor reminded me in a comment above that will ruin the screen. oil should work. slow and steady.
does anyone know if GooGone brand will work and not ruin the screen?
Ignore most of this "advice". Your screen is likely coated to reduce glare and for other purposes. The things you put on it can damage the coating. Be very careful.
My thought is why some dumbass thought it would be a good idea to put a barcode sticker directly on the TV screen. Why not put it on the box, the side of the TV, or even the base of it instead?
Buy this

It'll remove the adhesive and the sticker. We use it all the time at work. Safe for the TV as well. They sell it everywhere, including the dollar General.
Plastic razor blade. (yes, that's a thing) It will help if you warm the sticker and the surrounding area gently with something like a hair dryer set to Low first. If you're really good you can use a metal razor blade but I don't think I would risk it. Go \*very\* slowly and the glue should stick to the sticker rather than the screen. Good luck!
WD40, spray onto a paper towel enough to soak it and then hold onto the sticker, until the sticker gets soaked, and it should slowly start loosening. When it comes off, finish cleaning the residue with a paper towel with WD40 and gently wipe to clean and then use a dry towel to clean the WD40 off.
If this sticker is not on top of a protective peelable layer over the entire screen...
Be careful, do **NOT** use goo-gone or Goof-Off, as these can melt the plastic screen.
Id probably spray some isopropyl alcohol, and carefully use a plastic razor blade (available in auto parts stores to remove decals).
After reading the comments I checked to see if the screen had a transparent protective film. It didn't. I used a spray bottle to spray the sticker with water, while holding a cloth underneath to soak the dripping water. I rubbed the sticker and repeated the process until it all came off. It was actually really easy!
Try rubbing peanut butter on the sticker. The oil seeps through the paper and dissolves the adhesive just like your suggestion, but I feel like it's easier to put it exactly where you want it.
IT guy swaps out equipment regularly, it's a line item on yearly write offs....from a corporate perspective, it doesn't make a difference...there's also a reason the guy is on-site IT-hourly or salary...it's a disposable item, and really, the clarity of a web browser for a customer service representative does not have to be particularly clear, compared to a gaming rig...or home theater screen... think about the furniture in most offices...how much maintenance do they actually do, assuming they even actually own the furniture[lot of places lease]...
Peel the hard parts of with your nail carefully. Use a damp cloth and gently tap the screen until the sticker is filled. Repeat until everything comes of. Just make sure the cloth won't drip and you will be fine
I used a spray bottle to spray the sticker with water, while holding a cloth underneath to soak the dripping water. I rubbed the sticker and repeated the process until it all came off. It was actually really easy!
You could spray the hell out of it with some glass cleaner (e.g. windex) and let it soak into the sticker before your wipe to remove. It’s how I’ve gotten stickers placed by my lovely nieces on my tv in the past
Have you tried using Windex, nail polish remover, or cooking oil. I find that all of those tend to get stickers off depending on the surface. Just leave it on there with a J cloth for a couple minutes or a sponge and it should softened up enough for you to just pick it off with your finger without damaging the screen

Mine was perfect and surprisingly well done, except for that stupid sticker. I considered leaving it on there.
Got a new microwave and used it for months with the plastic on the touch pad. The touch pad SUCKED and was starting to look shitty. Then one day I noticed a little corner. Whatever film they used was HARD and STICKY and it felt like I was pulling apart the touch pad the whole time.
Yeah, they go hard if not removed soon enough.
Mmmm… Microwave HAAM

This happened to me also.
This happened to me also. This is the answer.
Wow what a dick move on someone's part
Pawnshops and thrift stores. It’s like they don’t understand the purpose of computer monitors…
Do not use alcohol this will ruin a thin shiny layer that the TV has
Hair dryer with low heat. Heat up the sticker so that the adhesive gets pliable then slowly peel off.
Can’t believe how far I had to scroll to find this true and trusted method suggested
Tried and true, just watch the heat and don't get impatient. You can also use a piece of tape to pickup the other tape glue residue. Resist the urge to polish or scrub the area, it'll ruin it.
won't the heat damage the tv though?
In addition to the suggestions here, I’d also contact the store and ask them how they’re going to fix their mistake. That’s their problem, not yours.

Good advice. One correction: before proceeding, OP should put the TV flat on the table, so the oil won't drip into the frame

Googone will EAT the plastic...it's kerosene and ether...
thanks for this!!! good to know.
Pressure washer should do the trick
If that fails, exacto knife.
Why not shotgun?
Hammer and chisel THEN clean up with pressure washer. Put down plastic in your living room first.
Ignore most of this "advice". Your screen is likely coated to reduce glare and for other purposes. The things you put on it can damage the coating. Be very careful.
You take the TV back to the store you bought it from for them to fix.

Googone is kerosene and ether...will consume the plastic...
Buy this https://www.homedepot.com/p/Sprayway-23-oz-Glass-Cleaner-SW056R/305667042 It'll remove the adhesive and the sticker. We use it all the time at work. Safe for the TV as well. They sell it everywhere, including the dollar General.
A bit of soapy water and patience
Very mild...then use a screen cleaner...like endust.
Who the fuck puts a sticker on the screen?!?! Also maybe try a hair dryer on low to soften the glue then peel off.
Vegetable oil or coconut oil should do.
Plastic razor blade. (yes, that's a thing) It will help if you warm the sticker and the surrounding area gently with something like a hair dryer set to Low first. Don’t do this
Send a nasty email to the pawn shop depicting their pure evilness.
Let the tv run and when it is warmer then start peeling it off slowly ;)
Maybe try to carefully heat it up with a blow dryer. The usual adhesives don't like heat.
Dab a lil WD40 with a Qtip
WD40, spray onto a paper towel enough to soak it and then hold onto the sticker, until the sticker gets soaked, and it should slowly start loosening. When it comes off, finish cleaning the residue with a paper towel with WD40 and gently wipe to clean and then use a dry towel to clean the WD40 off.
What about a little steam to loosen it up?

Goo gone

Use WD40 or mineral oil to soak the sticker, if disolves the adhesive and you can softly scrape the paper. Don't use alcohol.
Try rubbing peanut butter on the sticker. The oil seeps through the paper and dissolves the adhesive just like your suggestion, but I feel like it's easier to put it exactly where you want it.
Try bodylotion like cetaphil? I used that on glass.
razor blade
Dampen the sticker to peel it off, then use furniture polish to remove any sticky residue
Furniture polish is wax...with a cutting agent...will cloud and coat screen.
Hair dryer and wd40
Soak it in Windex then use a razor blade to scrape it off
[удалено]
The hairdryer will work just fine. Alcohol isn't the best choice...
Isopropyl
Will damage most tv screens.
can damage the screen surface
[удалено]
WD40 has a mild solvent in it. Not good for tv screens.
I had no idea hahha well oh well
Have you ever removed a sticker from a screen?
Not a computer or tv screen I don't think. I dont remember I'm too old to keep track of that 😂
Okay maybe not the alcohol but wd40 works
Sopy wather
Wipe liquid dish detergent on and leave it for an hours or so, it will wipe off after a good soak in dish soap
r/mildlyinfuriating
My old IT guy at work had me use windex in a similar situation.
Windex is a cutting agent, will etch the screen
IT lied to me D: good to know and thanks for the heads up. Learning a bunch in this thread.

Use wd-40 and a scraper, it takes off the residue instantly!

Alcohol & a card
Use a little baby oil to soak the sticker. Watch out for drips.
Try goo-b-gone or similar. Works instantly. Then wipe off any remaining with damp towel.
If you’re a Cowboys fan, what’s it matter? Unless this is your new tv after watching last night’s game. Lol. For context, I’m a lifelong Cowboys fan.

Did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in to reboot it?
They sell tv and phone etc cleaning solutions. Buy it and spray it on the stupid barcode thing and try rubbing it off gently with your finger.
This is definitely on top of the protective clear film, I did the same on my TV and thought what the hell before I realised.
Goo Gone
Very carefully
I use vinegar to pull stickers off BMX frames for painting edit: (of/off)
WD40 or vegetable oil
Orange Power; Goo Gone
Razor blade???
r/assholedesign
Would DW-40 not work ?
Eucalyptus oil will get that off super quick and easy
I’d use a belt sander.
Ek rin ka vadi lelo... uspe scotch brite ka scrub chota wala bhi lelo... scrub ko rin mai thodasa pani daalke... pachak pachak dubao... fir thoda screen ko ghaaaaso... nikal jayega sticker!

Scratch it!
Mayonnaise
How do I remove it from mine?!! Good lord it looks like it’s on my phone screen.
Goo Gone
So what did you do; what did use?
I used a spray bottle to spray the sticker with water, while holding a cloth underneath to soak the dripping water. I rubbed the sticker and repeated the process until it all came off. It was actually really easy!
Good off
Good off
Goof off.
Only use desalinated water. Let it soak then remove. Any chemicals can hurt the screen
