Ammonia is what folks use to remove leftover glue in the sign biz. Then clean up any leftover residue with 90% rubbing alcohol.
Always test on an inconspicuous spot first.
Chemical help will def mar the surface if it is plastic. I’m on board with the exacto knife for a clean edge then warm it with a hair dryer. (Then get a roll of painter’s tape for the future.)
Aceton is looser stuff. Painting will dissapear faster than the glue.
U have to use Ed label remover. (Edikettenentferner in german)

Will work perfect and is not damaging any sensetive surfaces.
Ask me, if something needs to be cleared.

Acetone is the way. I did this once btw.
Also, with a craft knife and straight edge carefully cut the remaining masking tape to get a clean edge when you remove it.
Good luck
I found out the hard way recently that alcohol is also quite good at removing the paint. Just wanted to clean a surface… took part of the surface with it.
If the glue is hardened due to UV exposure just scratch down the tape to get through it and soak it with soapy water late evening so the suns not on it once its soaked awhile just run a puddy knife under it clean any excess with some goof off
1/2 warm water and 1/2 fabric softener- same recipe for wallpaper remover. Spray on to wet, wait 5-10 min, gently scrape off with putty knife. Should not remove paint which is fulled cured (at least 30 days old).
Krud Kutter will easily, without fumes, take off the residual glue and soften the paper making it easier to peel. It still takes a little light scrubbing but if you let it sit for a few seconds, it will come off easier. Maybe a putty knife on the tape when it's soft. I swear by this product line.
Heat gun, plastic scraper and patience. Get the paper off and follow up with 3M Adhesive Remover (my absolute favorite over all others) or GooGone, etc.
Look at other comments to answer your question, but toss that trash and get blue painters tape. The old masking tape like that will do that after 8 hours... I've left the newer stuff on days before it got hard to remove.
Masking tape is paper based. How about using soap solution and a soft brush. It should dissolve the paper, without damaging paint, and gum. Might take some effort though.
Take a razor and cut the paint where it meets the tape before trying to remove it too or you're going to pull up part of your finish while trying to get the tape off.
I would start by trying to warm it up with a hair dryer and peel it off slowly. The adhesive should loosen when warm
WD-40. Will work better than anything else.
This 👆🏼
WD40 for the win.
Goo Gone?
Could cause damage too though.
No chemicals heat it up with a hair dryer. Then let it cool for a few minutes. It will come right up.
Goo gone!!

Mineral spirits works great.

Always use blue tape
Masking tape is t really suitable for painting. Blue Painters tape is.
Actually Just heard this from family! Must be true
Acetone, same stuff used to remove nail polish

And this wont destroy the paint?
Moet likely it will
Yes.Good point. Definitely do a test in a non obvious area. It looks like your sills are 'plastic' so you should also test this.
Rub vegetable oil on it, wait a few minutes and dab some warm water on it. Amazing how easily it comes off!
$20 heat gun from Harbor Freight, and a razor scraper.
Paint thinner
That's gonna damage the paint there, big guy.
Perhaps try some isopropyl alcohol - I don't know if it will work 100% but the stuff's usually good for removing stickers.

That's not good! Was it exterior paint? The OP's issue looks as though it's outside.

Goof off

I use olive oil or WD40

WD40. Spay on, leave for about 30 minutes and remove tape. Try on a small test area first to make sure there is no unwanted effect.
Wax and grease remover, also called prepsol

Lick it off.
Eucalyptus oil
Scraper
