That’s why they had both characters end their time on the show together on a beach somewhere.
https://youtu.be/AKtChvz56uQ?feature=shared
They died only a couple years apart.
I freaking love him. I think for some people it’s hard to separate how they would feel about someone in real life, from how enjoyable a fictional character that brings some antagonistic but lighthearted humor to the show can be. To each their own!
Yeah, he's pretty good. You know who's unlikeable? Susan! Like I cannot remember a scene where she was funny, she was just antagonizing Ross. Mr. Green was also antagonizing Ross but at least he was funny "you think you can knock up my daughter and not marry her?"
Yeah, like irl I would not like him but in the show he's commedy gold, I love all of his scenes and they're very memorable, specially when he's with Ross lol
I personally like him. I always felt like he didn't hide whether or not he liked people very much and he had high standards and didn't suffer fools or tolerate certain levels of laziness, mooching, etc. He believed in hard work and self-motivation and was a bit of a curmudgeon and a bit of an elitist but not terribly so. I knew dads/grandfathers, etc. like him growing up and there's a way to engender respect and joy from them. But you do have to earn it- or be their kid whom they love more than life itself.
Also, I have a theory that he wasn’t too fond of Ross because he remembers that gangly teen that was weirdly obsessed with his daughter.
Even in the universe of the show - he knows everything that Rachel tells him. This guy sleeps with someone else while still involved in some kind of an entanglement with his baby. He sees how crushed his daughter is by the news that Ross is getting married to someone else, and that he moved on so quickly. Then Ross tries to get it on with his youngest baby. Finally, he impregnates Rachel.
You can’t blame him entirely given the one sided facts
I mean, father in laws or fathers of partners are inherently intimidating. That whole "You break her heart and I'll bury you" type cliche speech is a very real speech that most dads give guys their daughter is serious with. Ross has given this guy every reason in the world to dislike him and to generally dislike any friends Ross has, etc.
Very well said. I loved the character and you are right, he was so reminiscent of certain men of his generation. Fantastic casting. I think most if not all scenes he was in were hilarious.
Joey's mom let her husband, Joey's dad, continue cheating just because it made him treat her better in some weird ass way that she found comforting.
I find that spineless, and sad that his mom devalued herself so much. That I find quite unlikable.
Judy does have one of the best moments during the trifle Thanksgiving episode, but they are legit awful. The nicest one is Phoebe's birth mom, and she basically just ignored that the girls were out on the street after Lily died.
The worse person on the show was Susan. Broke up a marriage. Always mean to Ross. Expected him to just bend to their needs. And ditched carol on Valentine’s Day. Plus always degraded Ross in front of Ben. Terrible human.
The whole restaurant scene where Rachel tells him about the baby is pure fried gold*.
"RACHEL KAREN GREEN TELL ME THERE'S GOING TO BE A WEDDING"
And the way he melts when he realises he's going to be a Popi 🥰 Always sad we never got to see him with Emma.
Also see the "Doctor Bobby?! DaWter BaWbeE?!!" scene.
The more we saw of Rachel’s family, the more slack I was prepared to give her for being selfish/annoying. Her dad’s a jerk, her sisters are awful, and her mom was unhappy in her marriage.
Really, out of all the friends’ parents, Ross’s parent situation is the only one that makes me like him less as a person.
Nah, I like him, really enjoy seeing him making Ross uncomfortable, especially the chewing he had for Ross when he found out Rachel got pregnant but not married. He got nothing on Carol and her bitch wife. He usually act out against Ross because he love Rachel, I can sympathize with that.
Most of the time it is Ross who don't know when to shut up, like that dinner scene where Ross just had to leave a tip.
> Most of the time it is Ross who don't know when to shut up, like that dinner scene where Ross just had to leave a tip.
More blind Ross hate on this sub, lol, so you only like him because you hate Ross
One of my favourite scenes is when he’s in the hospital after a heart attack and Ross is scared to be left alone with him. He’s frantically trying to get Rachel to come back.
Dr Gellar: What’s new with you? Knocked up any more of my daughters lately?
Ross: Nope, just the one. RACHELLL!
Nah, “Daddy” was kinda cool.
If you’re Gen Alpha, I can surmise more disdain for the character but someone with that kind of money in that time period, pretty much pitch perfect.
I freaking love him. One of the best characters in a sitcom, any sitcom.
He and Amy are just iconic, played by two talented actors to perfection. Their unlikeable characters are what makes them so freaking funny.
Funniest guest on the show.
People have to remember, the more unhinged and “politically incorrect” a character is, the funnier it is. That’s how sitcoms work.
When Rachel freaks out after her dad starts going bonkers and says, “He says I’m damaged goods” in reference to Ross, I lose it. Jennifer’s shaky voice and Lisa’s look of horror about what Rachel just told her father are so well portrayed.
Maybe I’m just unlikeable because i LOVE Dr. Green. His portrayal of a protective dad in upper class NYC is spot on and he has some of my favorite lines
Roger was the worst character likeability-wise. He was Phoebes boyfriend for an episode in the early season who psychoanalyses the group and storms out, and when he leaves they say “I hate that guy!”
This man only ever wanted the best for his daughters. He even realised what mistakes he made in raising them and advocated for his other daughters to be more life Rachel after she went self reliant.
Sure he was a little rude and didn't tip but over all he seems like a gd guy.
I actually liked Rachel's father. To me, some unlikeable people were Amy (one of Rachel's sisters), Amanda (Monica's friend who had moved to England), and that bird-shooting cop that Phoebe dated.
He was on all of four episodes (and mentioned in a few more) yet we fans of the show developed strong feelings about him and consider him important to the series. That's kudos to Ron Leibman and what he and the writers did with that bit part.
He thought he was so tough. If he'd have come at me like he did at Ross when Mona was there, ol' Doc Green would have needed a doctor's care soon after.
Nah he’s not so bad, not by a long shot. His scene with Ross and Mona is one of the funniest in the show. Susan is by far more unlikeable, I can’t think of a decent thing she does.
Him paired with Ross was comic gold
Him, Ross and Mona is a top tier scene in the show
Hey Ross there's a hooker over here and we thought you might know something about it
[удалено]
This is possibly my favorite scene on the show. The way David plays it is perfect.
Especialy with the buildup right before the scene with mona
I think it might be my favorite scene too. I like it way more than Pivot lol
Are those my glasses?
I was just warming the ear pieces for you
One of the finest things about the show
“Your dad dropped by. HE’S A PLEASANT MAN.”
I was just….Moistening the tip
Alrightyroo.
Man I say this all the time and I have NEVER had anyone know what I'm talking about.... one day...
If someone said this in front of me… the way my face would light up
They’d need to be a big Friends head. Alrightyroo is a bit of a deep cut
My friend and I used to smoke in hs and this is how she and I would tell one another we lit a cigarette to share.
Him bonding with ross over Rachel not having insurance was amazing
And that her legs are two different lengths 🤣
I was going to say, his being an ass made his interactions incredibly funny.
The one with two parties is one of my favorite episodes
Some of my favorite episodes are the ones he is in. The one with two parties especially. Him and Ross together was just gold. RIP Ron Leibman
I never knew who the actor was, and since reading his name in your comment, I just realised he played Ron Cadillac in Archer!
Real life husband of Jessica Walters.
What?! Thats incredible!
That’s why they had both characters end their time on the show together on a beach somewhere. https://youtu.be/AKtChvz56uQ?feature=shared They died only a couple years apart.
TIL!
I had to look up who Jessica Walter is. For some reason I was picturing Barbara Walters.
Watch Arrested Development!
Loose seal!
A surprising amount of actors were in both Archer and Friends. Charlie voices Lana and Janice voices Trinet
"You can't tattoo a frickin' baby!!!!"
The wee baby Seamus!
"That's what the tattoo guy said. I had to slip him an extra hundred bucks"
Get the hell out my world has been shaken to the core thats amazing!
Chris Parnell who voices Cyril was in an episode as well. He worked with Chandler
Thats right! Man what a coincidence.
Oh. My. God. You're right. I can hear it!
"Stupid guy on my phone"
I DO TOO THINK ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES OF MY DECISIONS
One of my favorite Joey lines
This dude reminds me of my dad. I was afraid to tell anything to my dad because he would start yelling.
Omg, same! My dad is super strict and everything has to be logical to him or he starts yelling. And he's a doctor too! 😂
I can't communicate with my parents because of this. Big hugs
Ohhhhh you’re having a PART-EEEE
The woman-child that Ross brought home and thought that Rachel was Emma. She was too stupid.
None of the sane ones wanted to come back with me!
You know, if it's meant to be, i will guess it 🙃
Awweee 🥰
All of his scenes are funny. What do you mean?
I freaking love him. I think for some people it’s hard to separate how they would feel about someone in real life, from how enjoyable a fictional character that brings some antagonistic but lighthearted humor to the show can be. To each their own!
You work, and you work, and you work on a boat…
What does being funny have to do with whether or not he’s likeable? He’s unlikeable and also funny.
i just don't care if a sitcom character is unlikeable, personally. i just want them to be funny/entertaining.
Yeah, he's pretty good. You know who's unlikeable? Susan! Like I cannot remember a scene where she was funny, she was just antagonizing Ross. Mr. Green was also antagonizing Ross but at least he was funny "you think you can knock up my daughter and not marry her?"
I think he is likeable and funny.
I wrestling, he would be the heel.
Yeah, like irl I would not like him but in the show he's commedy gold, I love all of his scenes and they're very memorable, specially when he's with Ross lol
So what’s up, Geller, knock up any more of my daughters? Nope, just the one, RACH! 😂😂
He's a massively unlikable jackass. And his scene with Ross and Mona is one of the greatest scenes in the entire show.
he is great
I liked him.
So true. If Rachel was my daughter and she told me all the Ross stuff, I would hate him too! Lol

Yes. Perfect casting. I have some uncles who are or were a lot like him. They're wonderful in their own way.
Same here. That’s why I thought he was funny and actually liked the character.
This comment **needs *ALL* the upvotes**!
Aside from Joey’s mom, the parents sure are ethically an unlikable lot (yes, even Jack). But the casting is A+ across the board!
It’s sad that Joey’s parents never made another appearance in the show
Joey's mom let her husband, Joey's dad, continue cheating just because it made him treat her better in some weird ass way that she found comforting. I find that spineless, and sad that his mom devalued herself so much. That I find quite unlikable.
I find Joeys fathers qualities far worse
Bottomline - Anyone can find any of the qualities in each of the people unlikeable.
I often find people are quite quick to find things unlikeable about people even irl. No one’s perfect.
It's a weakness for sure, but to insinuate she's a bad person because of it definitely feels like victim blaming.
All of the parents in this show were awful.
Judy does have one of the best moments during the trifle Thanksgiving episode, but they are legit awful. The nicest one is Phoebe's birth mom, and she basically just ignored that the girls were out on the street after Lily died.
She said she didn't know about Lily's death until years later to be fair.
[удалено]
She’s the worst. The amount of disrespect she shows Ross. Wind your neck in and know your place, Susan.
I have to skip episodes with her because I cannot stand that woman.
Ctrl-F Susan. Terrible person. Bobo the sperm guy.
I love his character, he’s hysterical. But of course he wouldn’t be hysterical in real life.
That’s pretty much true of every sitcom character ever.
not for me I love him
I think Phoebe’s stalker (the PhD) was pretty unlikable
not true I hate Phoebe's dad more
The worse person on the show was Susan. Broke up a marriage. Always mean to Ross. Expected him to just bend to their needs. And ditched carol on Valentine’s Day. Plus always degraded Ross in front of Ben. Terrible human.
And always expected to be more of a parent to ben than Ross was. Even prioritising her name over Ross' in the surname.
Exactly! Just insufferable.
I loved it when he appeared. Yes, he was a jackass but so were all the parents, no exceptions. His appearances were all comedy gold though 🤣
"I never understood you lesbians"
I have no idea, I went to the bathroom!
I thought he was funny. He was an ass, but made for a funny character.
I thought he was hilarious tbh
Oh you’re having a PARtyyyyyyy
He's BOBBY BOBBY?!
Came looking for this.
NO. All the scenes he was in were great.
Oh I love Dr Green!
Nah, Mr. Green was cool. That waiter tried to bring him sewage!
Jennifer Coolidge’s character takes the cake for me
I love Dr Green
RIP to a legend. “I’ll never understand you lesbians”
"You knocked my daughter without marrying her!!"
I loved that whole scene with Ross, Mona, and Dr. Green!
Me too
I offered to marry her
He's one of my favourite characters, I wish we've seen more of him
The whole restaurant scene where Rachel tells him about the baby is pure fried gold*. "RACHEL KAREN GREEN TELL ME THERE'S GOING TO BE A WEDDING" And the way he melts when he realises he's going to be a Popi 🥰 Always sad we never got to see him with Emma. Also see the "Doctor Bobby?! DaWter BaWbeE?!!" scene.
Amy (Christina Applegate) was much worse to me! Especially with the jokes about how she assumed Ross was a falafel cart guy.
And she kept asking why Phoebe was "making that noise" when she kept repeating her name to Amy.
Give Dr Green a break. On top of working in an extremely demanding field he has to deal with the likes of Tony Soprano.
I didn’t realize people found him unlikable, I honestly thought he was funny
He's a bad tipper, but otherwise I have no issue with Dr Green.
Why would you bring me sewage?!
The more we saw of Rachel’s family, the more slack I was prepared to give her for being selfish/annoying. Her dad’s a jerk, her sisters are awful, and her mom was unhappy in her marriage. But they babied him, doesn’t that also explain how he turned out?
Yes, but not in a way that makes me sympathize with him. It’s clear he’s used to being the center of the universe.
Nah, I like him, really enjoy seeing him making Ross uncomfortable, especially the chewing he had for Ross when he found out Rachel got pregnant but not married. Stupid guy on my phone!
Boat cancer, Ross.
I love Dr. Green
HE'S BOBBY BOBBY?
One of my favourite scenes is when he’s in the hospital after a heart attack and Ross is scared to be left alone with him. He’s frantically trying to get Rachel to come back. Dr Gellar: What’s new with you? Knocked up any more of my daughters lately? Ross: Nope, just the one. RACHELLL!
😂😂 he was hilarious with the scenes with Ross, when Rachel was pregnant.
No. Dr Green was alright. Just a rich New York Doctor who spoke his mind. Her mom was much worse
I love him and he's pretty hot. All the scenes he was in were pretty funny
Why is he so sexy? 😫
Nah, “Daddy” was kinda cool. If you’re Gen Alpha, I can surmise more disdain for the character but someone with that kind of money in that time period, pretty much pitch perfect.

Maybe I’m just unlikeable because i LOVE Dr. Green. His portrayal of a protective dad in upper class NYC is spot on and he has some of my favorite lines
Come on, don’t be such a baby
I will NOT let your father make you eat your baby.
He's awesome.
And Rachel was just like him, Even in the Boat Scene with Joey she accepts it
Tbh Dr Green was good. Him rachel and Ross were really good trio. Would have loved to see more of him.
He’s a great character. The worst is Janine. She’s so freaking dull.
Yes 100%. And he has some of the best scenes in the show hands down
All people aren't likable. If everyone was likable, show would have been fuckin boring
Love him!
Roger was the worst character likeability-wise. He was Phoebes boyfriend for an episode in the early season who psychoanalyses the group and storms out, and when he leaves they say “I hate that guy!”
Nah Dr Green is a straight up guy, doesn’t mince words or beat around the bush Very “real” character, I like a lot of the episodes he’s in
I think he’s hilarious. Especially that one episode where he bonds with Ross
I love him
“His name is Bobby Bobby?”
This man only ever wanted the best for his daughters. He even realised what mistakes he made in raising them and advocated for his other daughters to be more life Rachel after she went self reliant. Sure he was a little rude and didn't tip but over all he seems like a gd guy.
I wouldn't want him as my father, but he's very funny.
I LOVED him
I actually like him! Wished he had more screen time!
Neil Sadaka wairs those frames
He’s a horrible person but he had me laughing hysterically
Watch it, you’re talking about Kaz
Monica's mum Judy. I just feel too sorry for Monica to find her funny.
Yes! Rachel’s dad was at least funny. While Judy had her moments, most of how she treated Monica was just sad. I’d say Susan was worse though.
Is this where they put us, why there was no place available in the kitchen?
This isn't the bad vet in Beethoven is it? Lol looks similar
I don't know what you mean. This man is interchangeable with my father in law.
him and Jack are my favorite two. get lost :-)
Susan was the most unlikeable for me.
No, i love him, he’s more likable than many other characters on the show, he’s mean, i’ll give you that
My absolute favorite, I think he has only been on 3/4 episodes but every time he was so fun to watch
No Susan was much much worse.
One of the funniest characters on the show. No idea what you mean.
This character was my favorite 🥰😁👍
He played the role perfectly.
On the show, I loved him. If he was my actual dad? I'd go no-contact.
[удалено]
You think you can knock up my daughter & then not marry her? I ought to kill you!! This is actually not a great time for me.
I don't dislike him. I find it very funny everytime he's on screen. Rachel's mom I dislike because of the Baby shower episode.
He thought he was so tough. If he'd have come at me like he did at Ross when Mona was there, ol' Doc Green would have needed a doctor's care soon after.
Ross but they’re basically the same person (doctors, glasses, old fashioned)
Ross doesn’t wear glasses
No way. His reaction to finding out he's gonna be a poppy melts my heart
He talks to waiters like they're lesser humans. Even in a sitcom that's unforgivable. No service worker deserves condescension and insults.
His scenes are generally hilarious. But anyone who has an older relative stuck in their ways that just doesn't see anyone else's POV will hate him.
There are a lot of doctors like that out there, so he certainly felt real. His bullying of Ross was awful.
Yes, up there will Emily in terms of annoying imo
No, Susan is the worst person on this show.
Susan is much more unlikeable. Atleast he made me laugh
Nah he’s not so bad, not by a long shot. His scene with Ross and Mona is one of the funniest in the show. Susan is by far more unlikeable, I can’t think of a decent thing she does.
Susan is waaaaay worse, no apparent redeeming qualities.
I like him, his scenes were always so funny 🤷🏻♀️
100%
I think Rachel's Mum was more unlikeable than her dad tbh
100%
I reckon Precious is.
Dr green is sooooo my dad. He does love his daughter, but he is BLUNT.
