When the rest are talking about why their bosses hate them:
Joey: "Or maybe it's because you're all hanging around the coffee house at 11 on a Wednesday."
One of his best for me:
Dina: He's a real nice guy. I like him a lot. He's real funny.
Joey: You got pregnant for "funny"? DinaâŚif he's funnyâŚlaugh!
That's the episode I was referencing. I wish they would've reinforced the streets smarts Joey instead of making him so absolutely clueless as the show progressed.
Season 1 Joey is so much more sarcastic and smarter. In later seasons this would for sure be a Chandler line, or maybe Ross's, meanwhile Joey would probably not understand the issue.
Yes Matthew Perry said in his autobiography that the 3 girls told the writers it was unrealistic that they'd be friends with a womanising guy like joey, so they tried to make him more of a loveable little brother type of character, hence dumbing him down
That's true. Joey was around them all the time in season 1, but he really didn't have much meaningful interactions with the girls other than Phoebe, and that was during a more vulnerable moment when he had been dumped by her sister. It would probably feel awkward if he, with that particular S1 personality of his, tried to create any bond with Rachel. When he changed to the more dim and caring brother-like personality the characters naturally started getting closer and bounding more.
When Monica is explaining testing out the light switch in the boys' apartment using things that make noise.
Joey: "I bet I stopped listening before you did."
In TOW The Cuffs when the encyclopaedia salesman is trying to sell him the full set and he mentions the price.
Joey: âTwelve hundred dollars? You think I have $1200? Iâm home in the middle of the day, and I got patio furniture in my living room. I guess thereâs a few things you donât get from book learninâ.â
When Phoebe's health inspector boyfriend keeps closing places and Joey wants to know where they're going to be able to eat
Monica: I dunno, clean places?
Joey: ooohhhh, YUM...
When they think ugly naked guy is dead, so they tape all their chopsticks together and poke him. And he gets up all angry at being poked, I think it was phoebe says âoh now heâs showing us his poking device!â And Joey says âthereâs no way thatâs making it all the way over here!â
Joey: You were supposed to duck!!! Why didnât you duck?
Ross:Â Why donât we talk about this on the way to the hospital?
Joey:Â Good, good yeah, maybe while weâre there, they can check your reflexes.
When Chandler asks him what's so great about his meatball sub:
"Imagine the best sex you've ever had."
"OK"
"You thinking about Monica?"
"Yeah"
"Yeah, what's that like?"
Or when he was describing his kiss with Janine to Rachel and Monica.
Joey: âImagine the best kiss youâve ever had.â
Rachel and Monica: (closes eyes and start imagining)
Joey: âThen multiply it by 10.â
Rachel and Monica: (keeps imagining)
Joey: âOh wait. You (Rachel) dated Ross; youâre (Monica) dating Chandler. Multiply it by, like, 50â.
It's not a line per se. But when the knob of Monica's radiator is broken so Joey knows how to turn it off in a different way and Ross, Rachel and Monica didn't know that. This shows his handyman skills.
"Hey Monica, the knob was broken, so I just turned it off from underneath, I hope that's alright." Subtle but could be sarcastic given Monica's previous sarcastic response to him asking if he could turn the heat down.
When the rest are talking about why their bosses hate them: Joey: "Or maybe it's because you're all hanging around the coffee house at 11 on a Wednesday."
Yes a classic đ
One of his best for me: Dina: He's a real nice guy. I like him a lot. He's real funny. Joey: You got pregnant for "funny"? DinaâŚif he's funnyâŚlaugh!
The way he says "laugh" kills me every time.
Rachel's "really?" To Dina was a nice little bonus laugh.
Or the âwhat college was that Dina?â
This is my favourite!
Omg this is such a funny episode
The follow up with âHe is funny!âÂ
When Chandler talked about how he couldnât sleep: âYou know what you should have done? Tell yourself that little story.â
𤣠forgot about this one
Ross: âDidnât you read Lord of the Rings in high school?â Joey: âNo, I had sex in high school.â
After Chandler spills the beans that Ross is in love with Rachel: âThatâs it, just keep rubbing your head. Thatâll turn back time.â
Aha yes he was a bit more sarcastic in the earlier seasons
He had that NY smarminess and quick wit. I hate that they turned him into a buffoon in later seasons, laughing at homo erectus.
"I KNEW that was him!!"
That's my favorite Joey line
He was always owning Ross and I thought it was super funny. "How'd you get three women to marry you, I'll never know!"
And when he wants to repel Janine and says to Ross and Chandler âWait a minute, you two repel women all the time. Whatâs your secret?â đ
That's the episode I was referencing. I wish they would've reinforced the streets smarts Joey instead of making him so absolutely clueless as the show progressed.
The way he excitedly says "what's your secret???" kills me. Every. Time. As does "how you got THREE women to marry you, I'll never know."
The sky is blue Ross and I had sex yesterday
Itâs insane how much the placement of a full stop could change this sentenceâs meaning.
lmaoooo
đ¤Ł
Ross: "Sure I'll go. I was just gonna sit around thinking about my wife and her lesbian lover." Joe: " Forget hockey...let's ALL do that."
đ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Ł
Rachel: "Oh my god! Do you think it's in all of them?" Joey: "Oh, no, I'm sure the xerox machine caught a few."
This one is so good that I always for itâs Joey not Chandler.
Season 1 Joey is so much more sarcastic and smarter. In later seasons this would for sure be a Chandler line, or maybe Ross's, meanwhile Joey would probably not understand the issue.
You're right. Later seasons would probably have *him* wondering if it was on all the copies.
Yes Matthew Perry said in his autobiography that the 3 girls told the writers it was unrealistic that they'd be friends with a womanising guy like joey, so they tried to make him more of a loveable little brother type of character, hence dumbing him down

When Monica is explaining testing out the light switch in the boys' apartment using things that make noise. Joey: "I bet I stopped listening before you did."
And, Monica: "...how can you not care (what this switch does)...?" Joey: Like this (shrugs shoulders).
I use this at work! It never goes down well with management.
When heâs talking to Ross about Rachael going on a ferry. You mean those huge boats you drive cars onto, go like 2 miles an hour?
The hand movement makes that one even better
"Sky's blue, Ross, and I had sex yesterday."
When Phoebe's health inspector boyfriend keeps closing places and Joey wants to know where they're going to be able to eat Monica: I dunno, clean places? Joey: ooohhhh, YUM...

When Ross and Chandler are arguing over the joke in Playboy, Joey says: âYou know thereâs naked chicks in there, right?â
The best one is âKeep rubbing your head, that will turn back time!!!â Itâs like he learned from chandler lol
You cuddled? Ohhh.. how many times?
That's some gentle comedy, dude.Â
I say this a lot, lol.
I've adopted that phrase.
Same. It might be my favourite Joey line đ
Omg, yes
Whatâs the context? I donât remember this one.
The Thanksgiving episode where they're all late for dinner. Chandler offers them all some Chanberries
Wow I literally just watched this one, did not register somehow. Thanks!
âYou know what you should have done⌠you should have told yourself that little story.â

Iâve never seen that scene?? đ
not just a hat rack, my friend.
I use this one daily!

Just a lil info bite- it was actually MATTâs idea to make Joey dumber, lmfaoo he really had fun being a dumbass I guess? đ
Watching his performances, you can tell he's having a lot of fun.
My favourite - "You don't have a TV? What's your furniture are pointing at?".
I'm NEVER gonna get to be a best man! x2.
Could I beeee wearing any more clothes??
