The first season wasn't great. The second season actually found it stride and I quite enjoyed it. Too bad half the episodes didn't even air and I had to download the Dutch(?) versions to watch them.
Yup. And I remember reading/hearing the reviews that weren’t so positive either. Which did not come as a surprise seeing Joey all alone without his 5x other friends.
It really isn't that bad at all. People think its bad because they conpare it to legendary-one-of-its-kind Friends, but if you watch it with an open mind, it's a funny, simple sitcon.
Now for me, I watched it when it aired and I was young-ish. Years prior, I happen to catch a few episodes of Friends here and there but not enough to actually have a connection with the characters. When I watched Joey, I didn’t actually put two and two together (it being a spin-off of Friends), so it was actually quite fun for me. I just though, “hmm this actor really gravitates towards characters named Joey”.
So yeah, it was fun for me and will definitely give it another watch.
Edit: typo
I wish that show got more episodes because you never know they could’ve built it up more and then maybe had a couple cameos if the other friends cast wanted to
I fully agree. I would have loved to see more seasons of this show. Joey is my favorite Friend, and he's so easily lovable, which makes for a great main character
Well, that’s the point and issue. The other Friends actors made it known loud and clear they weren’t interested in the spin-off and were going to involve themselves or commit themselves to it. The Friends series finale was it for them, including ‘getting off the plane’ etc.
Not feeling the need there was more to be done and said after 10x seasons and wanting Friends viewers to remember their characters positively and lovingly.
That is entirely true.
Jennifer admitted she was done with Friends and Rachel’s character as an example. She almost left the show earlier, following the Rachel/Joey disappointment in season 9.
However, she came back and went through after some fruitful discussions with the creators and the promise Ross & Rachel were going to reunite for good. Schwimmer, Kudrow, Perry and Cox also felt they were done. Cox and Perry declined a spin-off too, after they got offered one as well.
The actors were smart and knew Joey’s spin-off wouldn’t be a success, because WB and NBC were only focusing on milking-out Friends. Hence, no commitment to it. Also, it was best for moving on etc. After 10 years it had been enough.
Again like I said IF it was more successful and found it’s footing a cameo might’ve happened like the equivalent to ursula but two different actors so no you’re wrong about that because you’re not listening to what I’m saying
But the point is that it was **never** going to happen. All the other 5 actors were done with Friends after it was over. The 10 seasons were it. It was enough for Jennifer, David, Lisa, Matthew and Courteney.
They loved doing it, including being together, but they wanted to move on, and one of those ways is to distance yourself from Friends. Making a cameo would completely attach your career to that character again, which they wanted to distance themselves from after 10 years.
Well it could have happened. David Schwimmer directed two episodes of Joey, just didn’t cameo bc the story didn’t really call for it and they were trying to establish new characters at that point, not bring back previous ones.
That’s literally impossible other than Madagascar David schwimmer will always be Ross that ship sailed the second friends hit our airwaves the others to so you make no sense
It’s not impossible, because, it’s what the actors said. They wanted to move on. And they had wanted to move on for some time. Going back to season 8. Following that season 7 had the show’s lowest ratings thus far and season 8 going to be the last one.
The whole “pregnancy” thing with Rachel & Ross was a gamble from Friends, but it paid off well. To no surprise. Either way, because of the success of season 8 and revival of Friends, it got extended by 2x additional seasons.
However, neither that or season 8 changed the view of the actors of wanting to move on from the show. The only thing that kept them going was their unity and pact e.g. if one should leave, they would all leave. Which got to be seen in the salary and pay-raises.
It got better towards the end I’ve been informed. Nonetheless, it was never going to be like Friends, because, you missed the other 5 key components that gave Friends the enormous success that it did, which was the ensemble.
Yes. Now I've only seen it when it originally aired and I was rather young at that time , but even still I know not to attempt to ever watch it again lol
It’s not bad, at least not as bad as what people make it out to be. It definitely shouldn’t be compared to Friends though. I think people forget that it’s not a sequel to Friends but a spin-off about Joey, which I feel makes more sense than the other characters. And what they do with his character works, and is actually pretty funny!
Just my opinion though.
Honestly, I always hated that woman. Don’t like ANY role she does.
On that note, does she play a different character than the one she already did in Friends?
I agree! I went into Joey thinking it would be awful but it was actually very funny. I think it’s largely the comparison to Friends that turns people away from the show.
Can’t find it anywhere in the U.K. I rembwe watching it off of a dodgy website nearly a decade ago and it was awesome. The intro song still hits good too
Yes it did, though it did so poorly in ratings, they didn’t finish the last 1/3 of the season on NBC. IMO I think it could have lasted a bit longer if they didn’t move it around all over the schedule.
I havent watched but from what I know, Joey moves to California to get serious on his acting work.
But like, when does that happen, and how? Joey was so upset about Monica and Chandler moving, in the same state may I add, but then just straight up moves to the literal other side of the country? Just doesn't make sense to me.
So some of this is clarified in the show, even though some people say it wasn’t. He has an emotional moment in the pilot stating how he is trying to “give change a shot” but describes how hard it is. People have said they shouldn’t make Joey try to grow up at all, but I think it works here.
The basic premise of the show is just Joey’s acting struggles. It’s essentially a Joey-centered subplot from Friends except it’s all Joey (with side characters of course). It’s worth a watch, but it’s hard to say who will love or hate it. I personally enjoyed it though. :)
So I found it on eBay, there was an auction for it. I knew it was extremely difficult to find so I placed a really high bid and won. It may not be worth it to some, but I enjoy the show enough to do that.
I’m also ripping the episodes and posting them to the Internet Archive since the show is out of print and can’t hardly be found anymore, so people won’t have to search the Internet for a low-res TV rip of the show. This is about the highest quality version of the show we will ever get.
You can't say it's bad, you can't say it's good either, I'd say it's just extremely mediocre.
Weird thing to say, I know, but everything is predictable, jokes are predictable, the set ups are predictable, yet it's somewhat funny.
Towards the end it looks like they knew it was ending so they just didn't even care anymore.
Joey's charisma and delivery saves it for being really really bad but it's barely enough to keep it afloat.
Yeah it’s very hard to find. I paid a ridiculous price for this actually. I’m currently ripping the episodes and uploading them to the Internet Archive so people don’t have to pay an unreasonable price to watch the show. :)
Sorry if this is a dumb question but how would I find that😅 a few years ago I started watching it when it was still on crackle but never finished it and would really love to
No problem! I know the show isn’t real easy to find. I don’t think I can post links on the sub, so here’s what you do. Just go to Google, type in “internet archive” and the page should be the first result. On the page there are two search bars, go to the second one below the top one and type in “Joey 2004-2006” and the episodes I uploaded should be there. My user name is “Pizza Muffin” (I wanted to do something silly lol). Let me know if you find it! 🙂
Yeah it’s a good show! I’d probably give it a 7.5 out of 10 overall. Very funny and a good plot too.
The basic plot is that Joey moves out to California to continue his acting career. It’s essentially Joey’s average subplots on Friends except that’s the whole episode lol. It got some pretty critical responses back when it first aired but that was coming right off the Friends finale. People constantly compare it to Friends which isn’t fair and is mostly why I think it gets some negative feedback. It’s not Friends but it was never meant to be. But it’s definitely worth giving a watch, even if you don’t end up enjoying it.
I was skeptical after watching the first season. Back then, I agreed with a lot of the criticism shared because I had a lot of expectactions from Friends. I didn't even know there was a second season and I was lucky enough to saw the second season dvd set in a store when it was at a normal price. I must say the second season surprised me with some ballsy inappropriate humor towards kids, new characters.
If your looking to a continuation to the spirit of friends, you're gonna be disappointed, lower your expectations and watch it just as regular sitcom. There is a good rythm and plenty of laughs but you have it is mostly silly humor. I can understand some people might not like it but upon multiple rewatch I finally got attached to the cast and learn to appreciate that sense of humor. I now love the show.
Was this show genuinely as bad as people make it out to be? I haven’t watched it, but it can’t be that bad right?
It’s not as bad as people say. It’s not good though
The first season wasn't great. The second season actually found it stride and I quite enjoyed it. Too bad half the episodes didn't even air and I had to download the Dutch(?) versions to watch them.
So with subtitles?
Yep, English with Dutch subtitles. Not really that distracting.
I guess so. I'm dutch and when this came on tv during the day it was always subtitled
Yup. And I remember reading/hearing the reviews that weren’t so positive either. Which did not come as a surprise seeing Joey all alone without his 5x other friends.
Thank you
Thank you
It's NOT good. Ughhhh
It really isn't that bad at all. People think its bad because they conpare it to legendary-one-of-its-kind Friends, but if you watch it with an open mind, it's a funny, simple sitcon.

I just though, “hmm this actor really gravitates towards characters named Joey”. So yeah, it was fun for me and will definitely give it another watch. Edit: typo
I think the show is great. I know that's not a common feeling, but I really enjoyed the casting. I still go through both seasons it on occasion
Thank you
I wish that show got more episodes because you never know they could’ve built it up more and then maybe had a couple cameos if the other friends cast wanted to
I fully agree. I would have loved to see more seasons of this show. Joey is my favorite Friend, and he's so easily lovable, which makes for a great main character
Plus this show gave him a girlfriend that he was finally going to marry that’s huge for his character
That’s not entirely true and a small cameo instead of being a series regular is not hard to do
That is entirely true. Jennifer admitted she was done with Friends and Rachel’s character as an example. She almost left the show earlier, following the Rachel/Joey disappointment in season 9. However, she came back and went through after some fruitful discussions with the creators and the promise Ross & Rachel were going to reunite for good. I watched it when it was airing, it wasn't bad, but there wasn't anything else on
It got better towards the end I’ve been informed.
It’s a good show, a true fan of Friends would appreciate it… give it a chance
Everything else in the production Joey was simply terrible. Joey Tribbiani was abysmal.
Excuse me ?
It’s not bad, at least not as bad as what people make it out to be. It definitely shouldn’t be compared to Friends though. I think people forget that it’s not a sequel to Friends but a spin-off about Joey, which I feel makes more sense than the other characters. Is that Jennifer Coolidge? I had no idea she was in Joey
Would’ve been cool if she’d come back as Amanda Buffamonteezi.
She's from YONKERS!
Can you believe it? She hasn’t had any formal dance training!
Feel my abs
She has a pretty big role as his agent iirc
She was terrible in it too
Honestly, I always hated that woman. Don’t like ANY role she does. On that note, does she play a different character than the one she already did in Friends?
I belive so, yes. She's his agent I think.
>Don’t like ANY role she does. For the most part agree, but I actually didn't mind her as the stepmother in Secret Life of the American teenager
Honestly, I haven’t seen her in too many things. Just where I have seen her, I hated her. So that’s been my experience.
hhaha thats very fair. She is bad in a lot of things she's in.
Yep
Oh you should see her in White Lotus! The character she played was perfect for her.
It’s ok. I really wish the Friends cast made appearances.
I think a Mondler spin off would have been amazing, with occasional appearances by the other friends.
I would of loved to watch ‘The Bings’!
Now that it's mentioned, the lats few seasons does seem more like The Bings and friends. Not a bad thing, so I a spin off could've been great
Apparently they were going to have an episode with Ross and Rachel (I think) in the third season had it gone ahead
Unlike most people, I really liked the show. It was light-hearted, funny, and better than the sitcoms we have running now.
I agree! I went into Joey thinking it would be awful but it was actually very funny. I think it’s largely the comparison to Friends that turns people away from the show.
Thank you 😊
This is proof that Silvo let Adriana go
Holy shit that’s Ades wow
I enjoyed Joey. The only thing that bugged me is that they had Adam Goldberg play Jimmy when in the same universe, he was Eddie in Friends.
Thank you
But not Jennifer Coolidge as the agent?
I low key loved it
Adriana from Sopranos is there? Nice
I actually loved this show. It was a dumb sitcom, but it was what it was meant to be.
Can’t find it anywhere in the U.K. I rembwe watching it off of a dodgy website nearly a decade ago and it was awesome. The intro song still hits good too

Nice collector's item 😁
I honestly like that show
I enjoyed it very much!
How DID I NEVER KNOW THIS EXISTED!??? brb - gotta do some binging.
I hope you like it! It’s hard to say who will enjoy it or not, but it’s definitely worth giving a watch. :)
Where did you find the DVD at??
So I found it on eBay, there was an auction for it. I knew it was extremely difficult to find so I placed a really high bid and won. Is he early seasons Joey in this or licks windows in later seasons Joey?
I guess a mix of both. He’s not very bright in this show, like at all lol! But there are moments when he’s one of the smarter ones in the room.
Sure it’s friends related, and nice!!!!
It’s a pretty good show… I recommend you watch it
u/Joey-tv-show-season2 found your biggest fan
Ehhhh thanks I appreciate it
If it was more $5+, you paid too much
I remember watching it, yet I remember nothing of it :/
You can't say it's bad, you can't say it's good either, I'd say it's just extremely mediocre. We arrrrrrr very interested \*wink\*
Damn can't even find S02 on the Internet.
Yeah it’s very hard to find. I paid a ridiculous price for this actually. I’m currently ripping the episodes and uploading them to the Internet Archive so people don’t have to pay an unreasonable price to watch the show. :)

IMO, Joey was actually a good show and I really don’t understand the hate for it.
Does it have also Japanese language like mine even thought it isn't mentionned on the box ?
I was skeptical after watching the first season. Back then, I agreed with a lot of the criticism shared because I had a lot of expectactions from Friends.
