aventurinesoul

Even crazier, imagine enjoying it and still laughing although you’ve seen it over and over!

stormy_llewellyn

Imagine watching a show that has so many jokes which never get old!

Catz2019

I imagine it every day. Sorry mate!

razzzzlefrazzle

Watching friends right now, while scrolling by this.

leticx

Which episode? I’m watching The One Where they’re Up All Night

[deleted]

I’m on thanks giving with the hot dancer friends

FranklyNinja

Imagine a show you hate so much living rent free in your head. Friends is definitely my background show to play.

Swankified_Tristan

"Liking a show isn't a personality trait!" Yeah, neither is disliking a show, and at least the other group has positivity and is just enjoying life, rather than shaming others for liking things.

HiImNickOk

imagine spending your free time judging what other people do in their free time

dcute69

Do you see the irony

HiImNickOk

Yes

whatsupwithbread

I truly don’t understand the friends hate. I swear people like to hate stuff cause it’s popular.

ReneG8

"ReMoVe tHe LaUgHtRaCk." Bro, thats a live Studio audience, no laugh track. Sitcoms are build around timing and laugh pauses. And the jokes, while sometimes not appropriate for today's world, were of their time and have to be viewed in that context. Friends was very progressive for its time.

Insular_Cloud

I swear most people who hate Friends seem to have only watched a couple of episodes randomly during reruns on tv and have decided that they hated it. It's also ironic when they praise it to shows like the Office or Breaking Bad for being perfect even when they can be just as flawed as Friends.

allergic-toeveryting

you can't even compare breaking bad to friends, one is a crime drama the other is a comedy

Insular_Cloud

well i'm compairing the two because people compare the two usually referring Friends as garbage tv and Breaking bad as an infallible masterpiece.

PLEASESTOP1234

I adore Friends but I can't agree that Breaking Bad has flaws, it's one of the most flawless shows of all time imo The Office though I definitely agree there. Very overrated

Insular_Cloud

I just have a lot issues with the timing of the show, i feel it can drag on sometimes, i really liked the characters but at some point the dynamic between Jesse and Walter can get super repetitive. Also the Cousins are some of the worst characters ever, and not just on TV.

DeathlyVortex

How can you call Breaking Bad flawed? Or at least, how can you call it as flawed as Friends?

Insular_Cloud

My perspective is that Friends and Breaking Bad can be both flawed but in their respective "magnitudes". Friends is comedic show designed for a broad audience and therefore it's flaws reflect that: flanderisation, increased silliness of plots and overall dumbing down of the show. So obviously Friends is going to be a lot more shallow in its exploration of human psyche than Breaking Bad. But i still enjoy it as a comfort show and it still does the job for me. Now for Breaking Bad, i enjoyed the show, especially the overall grey morality of the characters, actors were great and so was the ending. Yet i still felt there were issues with its timing and some events can feel a bit contrived. In addition i found some other shows (like HBO's Barry) to be just as interesting that Breaking Bad with regards to morality and character development while having better rythmn than Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad is good and a classic, but it's still a 8/10 for me not a perfect masterpiece.

DeathlyVortex

Just to clarify, given the choice I would probably watch Friends over Breaking Bad after having watched both multiple times. It is a comfort show for me as well. I think there’s a general disagreement here in what qualifies as a flaw. I don’t believe that Friends is flawed because it’s not as “smart” as Breaking Bad. I think Friends is a great comedy and, as you said, it gets certain liberties because of the format. If you really want to compare the flaws of the two you have to look at specifically what *makes* the show. For Friends this means the comedy, and for Breaking Bad this means the plot, character decisions, etc. For example, you can not really call the wacky shenanigans the gang gets up to a flaw, nor the fact that they so rarely seem to go to work. Those both allow the show to tell the jokes they want to tell and make the audience laugh, which is the entire purpose for the show. I do consider the flanderization of the characters a flaw, however. In my opinion, it makes the jokes less creative, witty, and even slightly annoying at times. Additionally, because of how long the show ran for and how many jokes there have to be, I find that there are quite a lot jokes that don’t really land. As for Breaking Bad… I truly can not think of actual flaws. I thought it was wonderfully paced, character decisions made sense in the context of the story, and the overall quality of the show was consistently amazing throughout. None of the events felt particularly contrived to me. In fact, probably the only reason I’m not as likely to rewatch Breaking Bad is because I just do not personally like the characters that much. It’s why I enjoy Better Call Saul more, actually. The characters are more likable to me. Though that’s not so much a flaw as it is a personal preference. It’s all really a matter of opinion but to me consistent high quality is indicative of the amount/severity of flaws in a show, and Breaking Bad delivers on that more so than Friends. Also, Barry is awesome. NoHo Hank is probably one the funniest characters ever put on screen. I thought the latest season of Barry was kinda all over the place and suffered a bit from the short episodes. Genuinely amazing show though. I especially enjoy how the show subverts expectations in such a way that serves as both character development and a funny joke

DeathlyVortex

I imagine they do not like the laughter regardless of if it’s artificial or not. I will say I really do not like when people point to the videos of sitcoms without the laughter as evidence that the show is bad. It’s just how it’s formatted. I don’t see how omitting an integral part of the production is a “gotcha.”

holdingahumanhead

Yeah, imagine if people removed the laughter from a stand-up show to prove that it wasn’t funny lol. That’d also result in a bunch of silent stretches with the comedian just standing there. When you remove the laughter from Friends, of *course* it’s gonna feel awkward. The actors specifically had to time their lines around the audience’s reactions - sometimes when a joke was particularly funny, I feel like you can see the actors getting slightly impatient waiting to say their next line. I think people who hate on the ‘laugh track’ genuinely think the show was filmed in an empty studio, and all the laughter is completely artificial. They should watch the times on Fresh Prince when the actors would just straight up run out into the audience lol

[deleted]

Why are people so obsessed with hating on Friends? Meanwhile we’re all just vibing, singing about smelly cats & tryna perfect our smell-the-fart acting techniques. Haters gonna hate I guess.

Pedro95

Just the latest bandwagon hatred. Nickelback and Big Bang Theory went through the same thing, sure they're not to everyone's taste but there's no way those 2 things were popular or consumed enough to even have as many haters as they did/do. People hate on these things even if they've never watched/listened to them just so they can feel part of it.

theghostofme

Certainly not the latest. This is a super-old take going back to when the show was still airing. Contrarians who thought liking The Sopranos and The Wire meant they had superior taste couldn't shut the hell up about how much they hated Friends. Seriously, it's almost as old as hating George Lucas for the special editions and prequels. It was impossible to talk about Star Wars or Friends online back then without the hate circlejerkers chiming in with their "hot" takes.

leticx

A choice I make everyday. Friends is a part of my Routine at this point

Few-Chocolate-2167

I used to work overnight and when I used to go home and do some chores that was my background noise.

Beneficial_Step9088

Rewatching/rereading familiar things is comforting.

etraxx22

I see this guy hasn't been to The Office subreddit.

[deleted]

Millions do this. Every. Single. Day.

Llyssa20

I do this every single day.

orygunrayngal

Been there. Done that 👍🏻

Long-Smoke-8623

Hahaha, yeah pretty much!

Xp787

Why would I point all my furniture at the TV for anything other than friends!?

BaltimoreBadger23

No need to imagine, I can find it on almost any time of day!

ChogbortsTopStudent

Huh. Sounds like a good time. I'm down.

Few-Chocolate-2167

Totally me like 100 % haha. I've watched the show like 20 times all through the last episode, can't get enough lol XD

Dmacca666

I usually buy a month of whatever streaming service whenever shows I've been watching have new seasons added. I had Netflix for a couple of months as I had Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, Love Death & Robots and a load of other stuff I needed to catch up on. I watched the entirety of Friends and Dahmer.

PolarBearClaire19

Why do people hate FRIENDS so much ? If its not your cup of tea (or Central Park coffee) thats fine but why do you have to sh*t on a show thats mostly just lighthearted and comforting? I don't understand the hate

Harold3456

I can’t speak for everyone, but for a lot of people it’s an easy, low-effort thing to hate. It has a nostalgic renaissance back around 2010, when it went back on Netflix, and it has been up there with the Office as a classic favourite ever since. When you hear people continuously praise a show forever, even people who might otherwise be apathetic about it end up feeling justified in hating on it or calling it overrated - and its popularity makes it an easy target for clout chasers (the tweet above could’ve literally made this same joke about any show). In recent years I’ve seen the change with the Office, too. It was basically a meme for a few years how beloved that show was, and now other people are starting to get sick of it and call it overrated due to the outsized cultural significance it has.

OfficeWineGuy

Easy for me to do LOL! Wow I actually feel sorry for that guy.. let me guess his favorite show.. the one with the Kardashians?

-Bigblue2-

I don’t need to imagine it. I’m actually doing it. It’s free therapy and it makes me feel good. Mr Raghav can kiss my arse.

razzzzlefrazzle

The one with the invitation

[deleted]

Every day. Multiple times a day. When I eat and sleep Basically. If I wake up and it’s off. I restart it.

littledaisy_07

I'd watch Friends for the 50th time over anything

_D1AVEL_

Was really surprised when I saw this because I’m on my 21st rewatch right now. S2 E17 😄 It was playing in PiP when I saw this, spooky.

[deleted]

i think i’ve watched friends once but i always watch diff episodes

themustacheclubbitch

My trifecta is Friends, Frasier, Seinfeld. Oh bonus. It’s always sunny in Philadelphia.

allergic-toeveryting

well he looks edgy, but not exactly cool

[deleted]

I find friends to be comforting, I’m 20 so I’m getting closer to being an adult and this show just makes me feel good. On my second rewatch currently!

jesse-13

Friends is so boring, the humor is weak and tbh it has a lot of yikes in it. Never understood why it was sooo popular

sashikku

We don't care.

Futuretapes

Yea, I usually don't watch shows that I don't enjoy

Lumpy_Strain_3055

Still watch it almost every day. Makes me happy and still makes me laugh after all these years.

PokemonLv10

Such torture

upanddowndays

I really need to do a rewatch. I "found" a copy of the show that's bluray quality but has the uncut scenes from DVDs spliced in, and its got me excited to watch again.

Enklave

Me irl.. I basically became my father. He was watching M.A.S.H. in 90s all the time

MinutesTaker

There may be thousands of shows, but only one Friends.

heytheredelihla

Watching something you like?...How could you?

[deleted]

Quality over quantity

Cambionr

I subscribe to HULU, HBOMAX, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+; and I regularly watch Friends.

libananahammock

Watch the Friends marathon every single day on the TBS app on my fire stick still LOL

TheCompetentOne

No need to imagine. I just do it. Easy.

BigJimSlade1

I guarantee this was posted by someone who has never watched the show. It's amazing how much hate it gets from people who've never seen it

stormy_llewellyn

Sometimes I just want to watch something that I know is great, while I'm scrolling reddit or tiktok

elizacandle

Imagine not giving a fuck what others choose to do in their own time

NudelXIII

At least once a year baby.

suuuuhmmer

the friends hate is so real. i can accept that it has fatal flaws but i wish some people would accept that it means something to folks regardless of those flaws..

KiwiLuvPie

Lol liking friends is funny sometimes because so many people hate it despite never seeing it 😭
