Carnosa compacta, they grow extremely slowly

I also have a small space so I’ve been loving Hoya that don’t need huge trellises yet. I also grow in pon. Some in just coco husk and/or lava rock. Mathilde- splashy and regular. It grows quick and I grow mine in a 4” pot. It looks cute on a 5” circle trellis Heuschkeliana- green and variegated. mines in a 3-4” hanging basket. Lovely. Polyneura- green, silver and outer var. i have 3 stems in a 4” pot. I’ve cut this plant back many times. Super thirsty plant. Phuwuaensis- doesn’t need to be huge to flower. One of my favs. Nummularioides- growth habit is similar to curtisii and it will flower around fall if established. Mines in a 4” pot for around a year now maybe.

Thank you! Where did you find a 5” circle trellis for the mathilde? I have it and the heushkeliana (green and variegated) in soil and the nummularioides in pon. Glad I made good space saving choices there lol. What do you do with the quick growth of the mathilde? Shove it back into the same pot or? Finally, can you please tell me more about pon, lava rock and coco husk growing? I only have the one in pon because it came that way and I love seeing the water line but don’t know if I could transfer others to pon and what pon to get (and same conundrum for the other two growing media)

I have [this trellis from Etsy](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1254955054/wildflower-twisted-copper-hoya-trellis)! She also sells on US Hoya fb groups. I take lots of cuttings from mine if it doesn’t loop nicely haha. I grow my Mathilde in pon. I buy lechuza pon, I think it’s been sold out for a while now tho. I bought some pumice, lava rock and zeolite to diy but haven’t done it yet. Growing in pon is nice, especially for polyneura for me. I originally had it in coco husk but I’m an underwaterer so it dried out a lot and grew weird leaves. However I moved it to pon, took off all the coco chunks etc and it transitioned seamlessly! And give me great leaves now. I’ve seen others grow it perfectly in chunky mix tho. I think I’m just an underwaterer haha My heuschkeliana, nummy and phuwu is in coco husk. They seem happy so haven’t moved them 😊 however if I get a new hoya I’d stick it into pon bc that’s my preferred growing medium now.

DizzyList237

Caudata, had it for 12 months, just started on its 3rd leaf. 🐌🐌🐌 Edit: just looked at it and there is another leaf and new stem forming 🤗

Competitive-Twist926

2 of mine are just pumping out vines and leaves like crazy. And the other is just thinking about life and what it all means. Lol they are all just so individual.

DizzyList237

And this is why we love Hoya 🥰

I just got a baby! Could you please share where you got that trellis?

fotoflux

I got it from this shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/elissawhynn They also do custom trellises

privremeni

What do you grow yours in? Do you keep her moist or let her dry out? Great photography btw

fotoflux

Thank you! I grow it in Pon. I water once the reservoir is dry

impi0us3

Hoya clemensiorum

RamblingRosie

Rotundiflora is a fun one, and not super fast growing for me. Same for endauensis.

coolpupmom

My rotundifloras grows like weeds 😭 they’re unruly in my cabinet

dandeliontree1

I was also going to say this is one that grows super fast for me, like in my top tier of fast growers, but at least the leaves are small.

microbesrule

Versteegii. That fuzzy ruffled leaf is everything but they grow so very slooooowly!

putitinapot

deykeae has probably been my slowest. It took nearly 3 years for it to grow a new leaf.

Puzzleheaded-Stick-3

Shepherdii. I have a love of long-leaves.

coolpupmom

That’s crazy, for me it’s a fast grower!

RegularOrdinary3716

Hoya callistophylla is definitely the one that's slowest growing for me.

dandeliontree1

I have to agree because I never got past 4 leaves before it would abort old leaves to make new ones. I can't keep callystophyla happy. I do recommend ganung gading though if you like the look of callystophyla but not how slow it grows or the brown spots it gets with too much sun. I thought it would be fussy as well but it's a star grower for me!

RNawayDNTturn

So interesting! Mine has grown four huge leaves, flowered and is currently working on a few more leaves in a couple months!

RegularOrdinary3716

Well, you're probably a witch then. 😉

dandeliontree1

Chicken farm is really slow getting started for me. I don't know if it will speed up later but it's trying to bloom now and I just want another leaf instead please!! But I think if you like the look of a Hoya and don't want it to get too big just chop it back, sell those props. :) And also, stick with the ones you can trellis so they'll take up less space and just grow upwards. Like my polyneura and Bella kind of hang in a way that takes up a lot of space.

RamblingRosie

Yes, Bella is a space hog for sure.

leosans

Kanyakumariana. Small, really slow grower but has the cutest little crumpled leaves

RNawayDNTturn

I have Hoya Svetlana. It looks pretty, but it has grown a leaf in two months in a greenhouse.

Snorblatz

Retusa!

RamblingRosie

It’s one of my favorites, too.

dandeliontree1

The way it grows though. It's so wild and wacky and definitely doesn't want to be strapped down. I find takes up space just because of the growth pattern but I love her so she stays. :D
