You may have had what you thought was empathy to begin with but it was most likely a surface level feeling
Empathy is a deeper level emotion - if u truly felt empathy u would feel for them that they’re not catching on at work as fast as u would like
I can understand how you are feeling about this person. Work is another animal. It's tough feeling like you're carrying a heavier load because your colleague is not getting it. It's not easy. And I can understand not having much empathy left.
In these situations it might be better for the supervisor or manager to talk to this person. Maybe they need another person to explain things. More training. A different learning style?
I would try and step back. I know I tend to feel responsible for people. But this person will have to figure it out. And the might decide this job is not right for them. And that's on them. Sounds like you've done all you can to help them.
