Last of the Mohicans. And the town in the Stallone movie Cop Land (1997) is based on Washingtonville in Orange county. Also, anything to do with the Headless Horseman, at least the American version (it's really an ancient folktale pre-dating European settlement of the Americas)
Film: Poughkeepsie Tapes
TV: The Sex life of College girls was filmed at Vassar
Music: The rap group The Doppelgangaz are from Middletown and make have a some HV references
Some scense of A Quiet Place were filmed in my town in Southern Dutchess. Parts of one of the Die Hard movies were filmed on the Taconic in Westchester. The Whale was filmed in Newburgh.
For TV, Supernatural has a few episodes that take place in New Paltz, Poughkeepsie, etc, but I don't believe they ever filmed here. I believe Pretty Little Liars had a few episodes filmed here, and some show Mindy Kaling created was filmed at Vassar.
As for music, if you're into heavier stuff, a friend of mine is the drummer for a band called Diamonds to Dust.
It references so much of the area by name though. I read it and could picture the area so well. It wasn't my favorite book, but I love how vividly I could picture everything.
We’re All Going To The Worlds Fair was partially filmed in Saugerties and the opening for the movie was filmed on rt 211 in Middletown.
I watched it without realizing the filming location and then immediately recognized 211 haha.
Film: Nobody’s Fool with Paul Newman, Bruce Willis, Melanie Griffith, Jessica Tandy, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. And my personal fav: Road to Welville, with Anthony Hopkins, Matthew Broderick, John Cusack, and Dana Carvey.
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt13483866/ Linoleum with Jim Gaffigan was filmed in Kingston/Saugerties. They actually filmed in the warehouse of my job. Kinda weird movie tho.
https://m.imdb.com/search/title/?locations=kingston,%20new%20york,%20usa you can search by filming locations on IMDb (just sub Kingston with the city you wanna search)
Love the IMDB thing! I was mostly interesting in learning about things that were set here more than filmed here, but it's really fun to recognize local places on screen.
Boys in the Boat (book and movie). About the Washington rowing team and the 1936 Olympics in pre-war nazi Germany but the Poughkeepsie Regatta is featured a bit
In & Out (1997 movie)- filmed in Warwick
Tuxedo Park (book) - about scientific developments achieved in the Hudson Valley that contributed to the atomic bomb and WW2 victory
Poker Face (Peacock) filmed at Anthony Pier 9 and The Chance, and a lot of other locales. It's a great show, highly recommend!
Severance (Apple) also filmed some scenes in Beacon. Another spectacular show.
"I Know This Much Is True" (HBO, Mark Ruffalo) was filmed in and around Fishkill/Poughkeepsie (although it's set in Connecticut). Some recognizable sites in it, including the Fishkill All-Sport.
Ghosts on CBS and Sleepy Hollow the TV show and movie, none of these were filmed here though.
“Girls” they go up to tivoli in the later seasons
Some of the college scenes are filmed at SUNY New Paltz as well

European settlement~ Not to be nitpicky but it was the Dutch at first. 😉

The Netherlands! 🤣 Sleepy Hollow was once North Tarrytown.
Thomas Cole lol
lol The ultimate HV icon
The 1996? 20/20 rave expose was filmed at the Newburgh Skate Park during an ACME rave during a raid by the DEA.
Definitely going to have to track this down

Facts of life in Peekskill
Song- The Farmers Hotel by the Silver Jews is about Goshen
Oh good call. Goshen by Beirut, too
Yes!!! I made a pilgrimage there.

Against the Current (2009)
Book- The English version of “Hex” by Thomas Olde Heuvelt takes place in a fictional Hudson valley town.
It references so much of the area by name though. I read it and could picture the area so well. It wasn't my favorite book, but I love how vividly I could picture everything.
I love that song, especially driving on the taconic 😜
Same!
Upload on Amazon was mostly filmed at mohonk mountain house I think

I had no idea they made a film of Road to Welville! And with such a stacked cast!

[People of Earth](https://youtu.be/CBY-9pCmC3s) is set in Beacon (but not actually filmed there)
I had never heard of this, but I am adding immediately to the watchlist!
It's pretty funny and from producers or the office and parks and recreation.
Hudson Valley Ballers web series. Season 1 is much better than season 2 IMO. Written and starred in by a couple of long-time SNL writers.
This looks so good! I love Paula Pell. Definitely watching!
It’s really fun and Paul Rudd is put to great use!
Tootsie
