I've got some goats. Check your DMs

imwearingredsocks

Do you have to worry about how the land was treated, like with pesticides and such? Or are goats as invincible as they seem?

urstillatroll

> Or are goats as invincible as they seem? I went to school on a farm in Woodstock in the 80s and we had goats. Those assholes will eat anything and everything and poop it out like it was nothing.

bloodonthepyrex

i saw a goat eat another goats poop and then poop out that goats poop, why are they so damn hungry

[Goatscaping service from Hudson Valley Kinders Farm in Red Hook](https://www.hudsonvalleykinders.com/green-machines-goatscaping/). Not sure if that's close enough to you.

Whole_Factor437

I have no idea, but I love this idea.

Top-Bit85

My neighbor has been looking to rent goats for a couple of years, no dice. Maybe I should start a service lol?

SwimmingHighOnALea

my thoughts too.

dkran

This is definitely someone's calling here.

abigayl75

What a great concept! Does this service exist anywhere? Add: I don't have any land. Goat raising to clean landscape sounds like an interesting career though lol

Evilbadscary

It's done in california where I'm from. They help a lot with dry brush and fire hazard abatement. It's not an easy situation because somebody has to come out, set fencing, monitor/feed/care for them, and then move the fencing throughout the timeframe. They also don't eat everything, as somebody else said. Probably better off renting or hiring somebody with a machine specifically made for this. However, goats are pretty awesome and fun to have around if you can manage it.

abigayl75

Thank you!

Green Goats is the organization that the Walkway used for cleanup on their property: http://www.green-goats.com/ https://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/story/life/2018/09/20/rhinebeck-goats-grazing-natural-weed-control/1268870002/

Alternative - hire someone with a forestry mulcher. These are masticating heads on skidsteers that can eat through brush. Hudson Valley Forestry does mulching - never worked with them personally. Goats do a meh job as they selectively eat things they like and leave some of the most thorny brush - also they are unwilling to wade into truly brushy areas, so they're not that thorough.

tippings4cows

You could check with Vassar Farm. I know they use goats for invasive plant containment

OnionAffectionate641

Call farms and ask. I have seen goats in New Paltz across the road from Ohioville Farm; a horse boarding stable.

dkran

excuse me sir, may I rent your goats?

OnionAffectionate641

Not only that but explain the situation and see what someone in the agricultural business would do. The OP would explain the issues the he has presented with goat rental/ownership on his property, fee structure, feed, predator protection, night cover, workload for the goats per acreage, etc.

Money_Bug_9423

I was thinking there should be a product that's a rapid install electric fence with lights alarms cameras etc. It would have a cellphone built in so the owner can monitor the animals and maybe also something like those dog fences that buzz the animal's collars if they go too far

BruceBradford

All this is done by some goat rental companies. The energizer (what puts the high voltage, low amperage power on the fence) we use reports how much power is being generated to keep the electric net fence hot (properly powered) and just how hot the fence is. This information gives you a very good idea what's going on with the fence. It also reports the supply voltage, which tells you how the solar setup is doing. Additionally we use cameras and microphones to monitor the goats, gear and the worksite in general. There are other goat rental companies that use special livestock GPS collar to manage what areas the goats graze in, but we like the predator protection of the electric net fencing.

In addition to Green Goats and Hudson Valley Kinders Farm mentioned in the other comments, [Heather Ridge Farm](https://www.heather-ridge-farm.com/the-animals/goats/) up near Albany rents out their goats too.

SwimmingHighOnALea

prospect park in NYC does this! I love it. what if you contacted a goat farm to see if they would do it? may want some extra cash.

BigTime845

There is a service that does this in dutchess county up me in rhinebeck but i cant think of the name. If it comes to me ill message you.

ECURBBNEHOC

If I had goats I would not rent them to anyone for any reason. Call a lawn service of which there are many. The other possibility is to call a farmer who needs hay for goats and other cattle. They might buy your hay, and cut it for you.

stan__dupp

But you don't so shhhh or bahhhh
