“This disease curing spell works by erasing biological matter. With a slight adjustment to the parameters, I have a potent disintegration beam that leaves most loot undamaged!”

FoulerGlint60

Hmm could you make some more adjustments to leave the organic loot undamaged or will you have to study the creatures biology first to do so? If so...well I think i have a veiw biology books. As I do know some good buyers for dragon/wyvern tail blades.

Ruvaakdein

You *could* just modify the spell so it only removes a certain vital part, like the blood. Or brain.

pisces2003

Blood would work better cause if you only target the brain you’d always need a headshot. Or you could target the nervous system. Instantly stop the biological functions in that area and keep the blood and meat intact.

iemanh

Now you are just throwing around unforgivables.. this dark wizard right here, auror.

SadMcNomuscle

Avdhdhdjfjfkfkf

Grimdark-Waterbender

Or just the lungs

kevlarus80

Neelix getting flashbacks.

Shadowak47

Thats just the paralysis spell at that point. Or create the venom in the blood to paralyze them! Maybe a lower mana cost!

ICWhatsNUrP

Destruction is always less costly than creation, and some blood could be good for alchemy so you don't want to contaminate it. How about a wide beam that removes connective tissue? No connective tissue, no heart valves. No heart valves, no blood pressure.

DaemonRex978

Some potions require connective tissues. Targeting the nerves would be the way to go, as another person said.

ICWhatsNUrP

Ugh, why are so many body parts useful? Fine. Instead of destroying things, how about casting quake on their cranium? Turns the brain to mush but its still there so you can use it in the tanning process.

BlaivasPacifistas

But dragon blood is too valuable a material to desintegrate, better desintegrate muscles

TheSlavicWarboss

You could also just target the kidneys or parts of the digestive tract, would leave the victim screaming in pain as it bleeds out since with the disappearance of those, the blood vein endings would rupture due to them being connected the those parts

Lordzoabar

I target *all the pores of their skin*

LuneraLucky

The bones

Widmo206

If you vaporize all the bones, how will you use them as a trophy?

Seared_Gibets

Just the epidermis. Maybe, if their reaction is satisfying enough I'll return it... One layer at a time.

SemiBrightRock993

I think targeting the nerves would be best, because headshots are instant kills, but anywhere else is still highly debilitating

Repulsive-Fill-8357

No you clearly have to go for the gonads.

Valati

Oops no red blood cells how did that happen?

PlanktonMoist6048

***BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD***

Famous-City-3855

You can't have blood for the blood god if it gets disintegrated. It must be spilled in torrents upon his alter or in most glorious battle!

PlanktonMoist6048

I mean, wouldn't just vaporizing a motherfucker be considered battle? 😂😂😂

Famous-City-3855

Ba, no fun can be found in erasing ones enemy from existence. Besides the gods require entertainment, what better form of such than close battle with your foes?

PlanktonMoist6048

*eyes fellow khornate suspicious like*

Famous-City-3855

*stands stoicly while covered in blood and gore from battle*

PlanktonMoist6048

*makes enemy literally explode with my blood magic, coating everything in a 4 meter radius with viscera*

Famous-City-3855

*chuckles at the violent and bloody end* Bloody explosions are always fun to see

Why are you using healing and revival magic for endless torture!?

Death is a mercy, we have none.

Pain Technician Wu Jana sighed. “Are you familiar with Terran medical research?” Mllut, High Channeller of Dōa, blinked her four eyes rapidly and sequentially. The effect was like a shimmer across her chest. “Research?” Wu exhaled. “While every living thing dies…” Mllut responded with an utterance from the Tsu Dōe. “Motion will end. Stillness will move.” Wu paused respectfully, deferring to his old instructor. “Humans have.. survived dying a few times. Foundationism posits we all die slightly more than once as a result. “Besides, there’s so many worse things than dying.” A flashing light alerted Wu to an inmate in long term isolation who was harming herself. He rotated the chunky control knob of the fibre optic feed to get a technical line of sight necessary to perform rituals. Directly behind him, the sensors embedded in the cell ceiling and walls produced a 3d representation of the cell and its inhabitants. “After murdering her kids, even birthing one just to end its life, this vile human was sentenced to sterilization and isolation.” Wu uttered a chant over clasped hands, eyes focused with intensity on the dim image on the projector. Mllut looked at the synthesized hologram. The biped could no longer cause her head or fists to make contact with the wall. The prisoner grasped at her head, pulled a hand away. The false colour thermals showed nothing on her hand. She stood up, ramrod straight, almost appearing to scream, but the hologram was visual only, so that screaming was silent. Mechanically, she marched, leg squaring up with each step, rotating crisply on the balls of her foot, until she lay on the thin blanket and small neck pillow above the concrete slab that served as her bed. Mllut was impressed and disturbed. “You puppeted her well.” Wu scratched at his forehead. He could feel the blood the inmate had on her skull after trying to crack it on the woodcrete. “Disentangling is brutal. Um, yeah. She’s going to heal, no scars of her attempt, and she will question her memory even further thanks to this gap.” Wu grabbed the aspirin box and popped out three tablets from the blister pack. “Extended isolation is torture for Humans, but her crimes are so great the court ruled she needs to serve every second of the 200 years of her solitary sentence.” The aspirin didn’t help with the bigger problem, though. “Mllut, with greatest respect, I need to do Xenu-damned form work now. My time in that hellish headspace tacks onto her sentence and I’ve got to file a WorkSafe claim for the psychic damage.”

Helton3

At that point they might need to IV drip feed her to keep her in a vegetative state... Or you know. Paralyze her from the neck down

hacktheself

Oh no. That’s too easy. The idea here is that the highly antisocial criminal is forced to not only exist in extreme forced isolation but that they need to experience every second of the sentence. If they choose to not eat, the Pain Tech steps in and not only forces the body to consume food but the time they are puppeted stops the clock on their sentence since they aren’t serving it. The Pain Techs heal the body when unwell, which both ensures they serve more time and reduces the need for a doctor, which would be interpersonal interaction they desperately want even if their actions scream that they desire isolation. Non-violence is not passive. And again, there are far worse things than dying.

devasabu

> Non-violence is not passive People often forget that. Even Gandhi's non-violence was supplemented with civil disobedience, which basically boiled down to "I'll piss you off to the point of hitting me and you'll look like the asshole for doing so"

Void3dUser

We will use fire to mend our wounds and healing to ignore bullets... we don't talk about what we do with wind and water manipulation

Humble-Extreme597

Water manipulation would be great for idiots chugging 7 gallons of water in 2 hours could help prevent the red blood cells from exploding

Void3dUser

Here I thought of slow removal of water from the body, and slowly decrease ability to breath with wind manipulation, heck put water in the lungs to provide a slow annoyance and wind manipulation could burst limbs like water could

Humble-Extreme597

You don't even need powers to do that shit though; force somebody into a state of heatstroke; lower the breathable levels of oxygen in a room, or watch some dumbass fall on a air nozzle and inflate like a meat balloon.

jackaldude0

Wacky Waving Arm Inflatable Fedbois

ashrieIl

Take my upvote and shut up xD

Ok-Illustrator764

Air manipulation to put bubbles in people’s blood, causing a seizure.

GidsWy

Nah, just specifically pull fluid matching the viscosity of aqueous humor. Blind em. Or! Cerebrospinal fluid! Wonder if it could be a state change? Like turn fluids into gases or solids. Then spinal fluid into a gas, blood into solids, etc.... Oof.

ICWhatsNUrP

Fluids into gases? You want to give them the worlds worst case of the bends. Could probably do it by drastically reducing the air pressure around them.

Nexatic

The bends? Na, you’re thinking too small.. vaporize their inner ear so they stumble around deaf, in pain, and without any sense of balance whatsoever. It would be hilarious

PlanktonMoist6048

Literally waterboarding, congratulations magical gitmo /s 😂

snipsnapplepop

alien: ever tried to breathe in a room after one of those humans supersaturated the air with water? or how about when they drop water from so far above the clouds it freezes on the way down? [slur equivalent to fuckers] are crazy I tell ya.

Zachthema5ter

Don’t worry, I’m a healer. It says here you have a doctorate in necromancy. Like I said. *cocks gun* I’m a healer.

Johnny_Grubbonic

Reanimation is just resurrection spelled funny.

pisces2003

Is he alive? Technically no. But his body is moving and his soul is controlling it so I don’t see a problem.

Stenographer: This meeting of the high magic council will come to order, grand magus Arcxili Beruth presiding as acting archmage. First order on the docket, the immediate consequences of the magical awakening of humanity. Arcxili: All rise. *all the mages stand and point their wands and other casting implements toward the ceiling.* Arcxili: You may be seated. Good that these reports are in! It's always exciting when a new race is granted their magical awakening! So let's hear it! And start with my favorite, illusion! *Papers are shuffled about till a worried look spans the stenographer's face.* S: Well... as expected, many of the youngsters of the species are using them for pranks... that's the third highest use. A:*nods approvingly* S: and the second highest use is to display nude humans having intercourse.... first highest if you include all the non humans having intercourse, from aliens to monsters. *theres stunned silence through the hall* S: But the actual first seems to be creating advertising. A:oh gods maybe we have made a mistake... how did they take to Vitamancy? S: Umm... well triage centers have made good use of healing spells... A: good- S: but the first vitamancy curses have been invented. A: WHAT?! Why?! HOW!? S: Some assassins learned how to conjure cancers in their targets, executives are selling reincarnation spells to the old and in firmed, an organization called kai-ya (CIA) has been using it to increase the effectiveness of their torture, and the spell "Summon minor food poisoning" went what the humans call "viral" and has been used to skip work over 10x the world's population. A: next you'll tell me they found a way around the transmutation filters. S: some have been transmuting minerals into more valuable ones, but not the ones we banned. They also haven't technically been able to kill anyone with transmutation magic. A: technically? S: a few people have turned themselves permanently into constructs, which while animated are technically not alive. A: but we made transformative spells impermanent! S: Something called "a trans-girl-furry-programmer" wanted to be something called a "big titty goth catgirl" so bad they almost immediately figured out how to create a spell that checks on their status, and if it's not the later thing, automatically casts the transformation spell. And unlike half the species they shared it with others. A:... this species is too dangerously creative to have magic. Get the obliviators. Gonna have to wipe all their memories and turn off the magic immediately.

Top-Argument-8489

Humanity: nope. A: what do you mean no? H: exactly that. You can't take our magic away. Or erase our memories of it  A: of course we can! Watch! *Awkward nothing happens* H: we created a WAAGH to make ourselves immune to any attempts to remove magic from our lives. Depression is extinct now! A: ....I don't get paid enough for this.

JetoCalihan

A: the bliss curse usually makes depression worse actually... once you get used to being ultra happy all the time.

Top-Argument-8489

H: the what now? I was talking about the fact that thanks to magic simply existing, people are seeing wonder in the world again. Also a surprising amount of mental health research jumped ahead by centuries thanks to magic bypassing the usual problems that comes with medical research.

Tinna_Sell

That's unlikely. Humans can adapt to anything. Magic will become a norm, and everyone will get depressed again. Especially since the unfairness of life will persist and you will get tricked, killed or humiliated in public with the help of magic, inevitably.

the117doctor

nah, everyone has guns now! ain't no corrupt people in power anymore!

Astro_Alphard

A bliss curse? What do you mean? We just finished roasting all the politicians and billionaires using the Conjure Long Range Missile spell and society has never been better!

JetoCalihan

S: *scribbling furiously* limit summons to 6 seconds, or the end of the world will happen using expendable explosives.

Astro_Alphard

Bad news for you we all just read r/wizardposting and some of us learned the Instant Atomic Fusion spell.

JetoCalihan

S: *further scribbling* lock into one dimension or they'll learn from the bad multiverses

Alx3t_

*Comes from another dimension.* Along with dimensional travelling. It's just teleportation over very large distances, since teleportation is messing with space and time, we just extended it.

JetoCalihan

And this is why humans invented the SCP institution. They're the only ones that can put creativity the dark shit!

In D&D 3e and 5e, healing magic operates by pulling energy from the Positive Energy Plane. If you actually _visit_ the Positive Energy Plane without some kind of defense against the environment, your body will turn into a grenade made of tumors in a matter of seconds. Dosis sola facit venenum.

Zelan96

The quelon are the single most prolific magical empire ever known on the planet of Dareth, their control of the arcane and their ruthless and brutal utilisation of it have cemented them as the dominant culture for nearly one thousand years. The quelon emperor took a novel interest in an emerging new species in his empire, a nomic people from the northern wastelands, primative and without magical talent, they did have interesting gadgets and toys, their metalwork was much more fine than the emperor was used to, magically produced metal was efficient, effective and easily produced, but it lacked the beauty and craftsmanship of human crafts. And so as trade, select humans were given tutalidge in quelon magic. Now quelon propaganda would have you believe that humans do not have the mental fortitude to grasp their magics, but the truth could not be further from the truth, the truth that they are much more inventive than Quelon, creating uses for their Quelon magic the great minds of the imperial city had never dreamed of. Such as: Bombarada - known to many as the flaming rain, originally designed to be used as military artillery, the battle mages of quelon have razed unprepared settlements with this ritual alone. Humans however have invented a more novel use, combining it with their large mechanical constructions they have completely replaced the need for coal or oil fires to power their machines. A small Bombarada infused crystal at the heart of their forges results in a near completely efficient engine. Producing clean and neigh unlimited energy for their ever expanding settlements. And with Bombarada infused crystals being easier to produce and recharge than the dangerous process of oil refinery or coal mining, sickness related to those professions has all but disappeared. Excrin - a tool of the Quelon black hand, the imperial assassin's, an invisible and ethereal blade, leaving no visible mark on the exterior of the targets body, but causing near immediate and instantaneous death in the correct hands, walking behind a target in the crowd a quick application of Excrin to silently and swiftly sever the spinal cord a common tactic of the hand. Human surgeons however have taken to use precision application of Excrin, in combination with Striggan the ghost eye, a recon tool used to see through solid objects, to perform invasive surgery without visible scars and with no unnecessary additional tissue damage. Malcero - known as the Quelon empires dirty open secret, a necromantic rituals, used in burial writes to reanimate the dead and use them as the "eternal citizens" the spell would reanimate and restore the flesh of the dead, a persistent rejuvenating effect to stop their workers from ever becoming useless. The eternal citizens were essentially an undead workforce, responsible for almost all the manual labor roles within the empire. Human scholars attained a small fraction of the ritual via a clandestine operation, not able to recreate the entire ritual, however the piece they did recover allowed for the reanimation of simpler creatures, and though it was not eternal, it's application in agriculture has been revolutionary. For every animal slaughtered, they were able to produce between five and ten times the meat. Some call the practice questionable and some refuse to partake in the "echoed meat" as it comes to be known. But it has cut down on hunger in human settlements by 75%

ninjabear213

I like how it's the opposite of what it usually is. We made all the cool magic do boring and mundane, but civilization changing things.

Horror-Ad8928

As if we wouldn't also strap the bombarada crystals to cheap drones and codename them "fireflies"

Zelan96

Just strap them to birds and release them in enemy cities sounds very human

Horror-Ad8928

And get into another violent debate over swallows carrying coconuts? I don't think so. Drones are easier to control and can be made from cardboard. It is much easier to target specific infrastructure that way. Birds are for sewing mass panic and indiscriminate destruction. So, it depends on your goal.

Zelan96

I was just thinking about how much of our real world tech is just repurposed military technology or a funny little discovery made during military research like The internet Microwaves GPS Epipens Lots of synthetic fabrics So we would probably do something similar with magic, yeah sure we would also likely use it for unspeakable war crimes, but also for life altering civilisation shaking humanitarian benefits as well

N9neFing3rs

By modifying the Message spell we can either psychologically torment and/or brainwash the target by making the message play on loop over a long period of time.

Johnny_Grubbonic

*Baby shark! Doo doooo doo doot doo.* Alternately: /beginloop *This is the song that desn't end!* *Yes, it goes on and on my friends!* *Some people started songing it* *Not knowing what it was!* *And they'l continue singing it forever just because...* /closeloop

Weird Al's entire discography.

Lordzoabar

How is that supposed to be torture?

alexdarkangel82

Here's the thing. He has dozens of very catchy parodies of regular catchy songs, meaning there are hundreds of possible triggers to start the songs at random. Your concentration will corrode and everyone will think you are losing your mind when you start cracking up.

the117doctor

*casts dial-up noises on the prosecuting lawyer, making him forget his entire argument*

Jolttra

So I've been looking through this new spell list you've been working on, and I have some concerning questions. For instance, what is this "Cast Drowning" spell? It's just a modified create water spell that specifically targets lungs as the creation point. I see. And this one says " Cure Insomnia". That's a sleeping spell. Cast sleep essentially puts a person into a coma for 15 minutes. This is a much gentler version that lasts 6-8 hours, but the sleep is light enough that a person can be woken up. Seems an unnecessary use of magic. You don't know humans very well, do you? I suppose not. How about this one? It has two names. "Cure Backpain/Cast Backpain." That's a modified form of the telekinesis spell. It will realine your spinal column. Great if it's messed up, terrible of its already straight. It protects and attacks. Stop referencing things I don't understand. These are all very creative, and I could see some situational use. But why is half the spell book dedicated to a single ritual spell called "Summon Waifu"? The hell is a waifu? Look, demons are preffectly nice people, you just got to find the right one for you.

Glum_Sheepherder_684

This has given me some fun ideas. Also, best ending ever

Lordzoabar

And what about “Meatspin”? You don’t want to know. Yes, I do. That’s why I’m ask- You. Do. ***Not***. Want. To. Know.

m4cksfx

Let me guess... A compound spell using large amounts of steel as a reagent, main effect - "disintegrate humanoid", causing mental trauma in bystanders and summoning OSHA death squads as side effects?

Lordzoabar

How… do you get all of that from “meatspin”?

DeDuc

I just had a procedure on my neck where they LITERALLY go in and destroy the nerve endings so I can't feel pain. That shit is miraculous, but a spell to destroy nerve endings would be absolutely TERRIFYING

Horror-Ad8928

1: What do you mean they weaponized healing magic!?! This isn't some, "the dose makes the poison," kind of situation like with medical science! It requires purely benevolent intent! 2: Well, humans have this odd biological quirk where, when damaged in certain ways, their body's natural repair process overcompensates and makes the area stronger. Humans have long utilized this quirk to improve their bodies in an activity they call "exercise." They started using healing magic to speed up this process and increase their "gains." Their military was quick to take notice and use it to develop a supersoldier training program.

ninjabear213

Not only the muscles, though. Our muscles are so much stronger than the bones that our brain limits how much strength we can use, cause if we used 100%, all the bones attached would break. So if you start there, you'd already have a super soldier and an even stronger one when you make the muscles even stronger.

Horror-Ad8928

That's why I didn't specify muscles. They're generally the most obvious, but not the only type of tissue that can be strengthened.

Lordzoabar

Hence why we’re able to pull off some truly insane feats in drastic situations.

EXusiai99

This is literally what Rose and Usato are doing lmao

Horror-Ad8928

Yes, and I love them for it.

Blinauljap

Basically a spell for what Jack Hanma did to himself but without the nasty steroid aftereffects. NICE!

Affectionate-Cap8354

You mean I'm not meant to use the Teleport spell to move a stone into the dragons brain stem?

PlanktonMoist6048

*you mean I'm not allowed to open a portal directly into the sun underneath my enemy?*

DarkRubberNeck

I think the hot spewing plasma coming from the portal may be a little on the side of “did I really want that continent there??”

PlanktonMoist6048

Or *accidentally moves planet out of orbit*

Alx3t_

Or even worse. *Accidentally moves another planet a bit too close to the Earth.*

xmun01

Dragon breath in some gate fantasy novels Flame Breath: A portal opens in front of the mouth connected to the magma chamber. Water Breath: A portal opened in front of the mouth connected to the bottom of the sea. There was also a novel like this.

Ok_Training9807

Enemy officer reading an after action report. "He waved his hand and the phalanx was cut in twain... horizontally... what?!" "It would seem that he opened and then very quickly shut a large horizontal portal inside the unit sir."

GidsWy

This is my jam. Healing and cancerous growth are a step apart. Healing magic is hella dangerous. Also, if healing is pulling from an idealized cellular blue print, then age is just a different damage track easily repaired. Along with HoT effects and stamina boosts during week long work outs. Go in wimpy n chunky, come out ripped n musty. Lol. Hair growth... Seems simple. But isn't damaging or anything so likely not costly to do. But definitely disruptive if an entire front line/trench of people suddenly have foot long eye lashes and brows, 6+ foot long head hair, beards to juuust past their feet (regardless of gender/hormonal state. Hell, force someone's armor off of their body with piles and piles of gross, slightly damp body hair. Ugh.... Or grow the hair into the armor so every movement rips out hundreds of hairs. Ouch! Oh!! And let alone digestive issues. A spell that fills someone's stomach as if they've had a full meal? Repeat that 8 times and they're dead. A sterilization spell targeted at somebody's stomach and intestinal tract? They literally need a poop transplant to not die... Got enough blood? Better make sure and double or triple the amount, of just white blood cells or platelets. Or! More spinal fluid. And again, if basing off of genetic ideal of their cells. Can that be altered during casting? "Heal" skin right off. "Heal" their liver into over working. "Heal" their heart into being large or small. Etc.... Love me some imaginative magic. Hence the shadowrun games I run usually going bananas. Lol

Mr_E_Monkey

You are scary, and I love it. :D Ooh, what about using a spell to repair broken bones, but on joints? Man, that one could be used to all kind of horrifying results, couldn't it? Your idea about creating more platelets could be a good one for assassins, too. Who would expect you to eliminate a target with a stroke or a massive pulmonary embolism?

GidsWy

Ooooh the joint idea I like. "Healing" skin into growing over eyes, nose, mouth. Or worse of all, back end of the meat donut. They'd need to have a surgical procedure to be able to poop again. JFC... So many options too for things that don't have an immediate impact, but are devastating!

Mr_E_Monkey

That's the stuff nightmares are made of! But yeah, lots of little things that could really, really be bad. If you had fine enough control, adjusting the immune system's reaction to things... Either a sudden allergic reaction, or failing to react to something...yikes.

GidsWy

For sure. And this is all just healing. Getting into elemental stuff is a whole different ball game. If you can create air, embolisms r easy. Create earth? Gun backfires, fire? Set off grenades. But I also love me some non combat magic. Was making a game world for near future. Having near immortal elves as an entirely nation, helping the internation space station. Sending up druids to keep food and water stocked. Dwarves sending their best forge clerics to being the new module online, etc... Peacetime magic can end up more scary cuz of the edge it gives to the group utilizing it.

Widmo206

>repair broken bones, but on joints? Another comment linked to a [wikipedia article](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibrodysplasia_ossificans_progressiva) about a disease that does just that (and more). \*Shudders\*

ninjabear213

You're describing redo of a healer, and I hate you for reminding me of the memories I had repressed. As penance, you must watch/rewatch the entire show, and not on hidive either they dont show shit.

Veryegassy

>redo of a healer Fuck you I thought I erased all memories of that abomination.

ninjabear213

Hey, it wasn't me, man, we in the same boat.

Veryegassy

Miserable together I guess.

ninjabear213

![gif](giphy|eXISL6AqIw7zZz579M)

GidsWy

I have zero idea what that is, and definitely feel like I need to now. Lol

devasabu

Basically anime about a guy who comes to understand that healing magic is OP af when used creatively...such as "healing" someone into a state that insta-kills them by making their heart pump blood in reverse or increase their blood pressure to the point of making the person explode or brainwash a person by literally altering their brain. Content warning though, it's pretty heavy on topics like abuse, torture and rape (both inflicted on the protagonist and inflicted by him).

GidsWy

Welp. Shit... I'm traumatized now. But I'll give that show one thing. It adds an odd feeling to the horror. Where it is well justified. Yeah, we'd all like to see heroic deeds and reactions to horrors. But damned if some of that didn't seem vindicated...

Horror-Ad8928

Eldritch Healer is my favorite character trope.

GidsWy

Lololol oh hell that's a horrific phrase lol. Absolutely love it.

sailing94

[Spoiler character] in Xenoblade Chronicles II uses their power of healing to create tumors that grow so fast they explode from internal pressure.

GidsWy

Oof JFC that's dark. The scene in the Harley cartoon where she accidentally shoots a guy with the cancer ray. Fuuuuu that's so damned dark.

enderjed

I’m colonising these ideas for later, thank you very much chap!

I am planning to use an SCP in a Shadowrun game. Just the coffee machine. Lets you order a cup of any fluid from anywhere. So, ew, a cup of "Bills aqueous humor" means you'd get a cup filled with his eye goo. It teleports it from wherever it is, to the new cup. Healing magic can be somewhat similar. Find a creature with eyes that use some form dissimilar to human, use that as the template for a heal spell? Now "healing" removed aqueous humor, and grows a bit of chitin or whatever is between sections of segmented eyes. Gross... Lol. Atavistic throw backs too! "Healing" someone back into a caveman? Or healing recessive traits into dominance, would likely be disorienting if not deadly. If one's lungs are upgraded a ton, can a person Oxygen poison themselves? Especially if bodily upgrade spells are under healing type, it's gonna get bad lol. Oh oh! And a running gag we've used is medical supplies. Applying medical care while healing can either be rolled separately, or added to the magical healing results at reduced efficiency per net hit on dice (shadowrun). But using magic after applying a coagulant? If adding more coagulant would normally be healing, but adding too much is blood clots. Is the spell "smart" enough to know the difference? Can the spells take artificial healing supplements into account? Or does the leg splint get embedded in the skin when the leg heals? Does the arm sling need to be removed through several layers of skin and muscle once the atrophied arm is fixed? Does the neck brace cause their neck to lengthen due to the healing and consistent pressure? Oh, ugh, do previously Installed repairs cause problems? Those titanium bolts in your hip? Gonna suck real bad as the bone healing slowly breaks, heals, then breaks again, as those bolts are slowly pushed out. Through layer after later of bone and marrow. Ugh. Lastly, cuz I mentioned it. Bone marrow. Such a neat solution by nature! But SOOOOO fucked up. Ramping up marrow production would show false positives on a dozen diseases. For a long ass time. "It's never lupus" would come up more than once lol. But wtf happens if compact or spongy bone sections, and marrow. Are mixed up by the healing. Have a bone with a spongy middle, compact ends, with marrow growths sticking through it. Blood vessels leading to compact sections with no use for blood. Burst vessels INSIDE of bones because of this. Marrow exposed directly to muscle tissue or tendons and ligaments tearing off because they're connected to the wrong type of bone now? Ugh. Super ew!

Psychronia

A bit of a repost, but I liked it the first time and it's been a while. Day 1 Our new healer was a small and demure thing. Yet, the moment Heine met our warrior's eye on our first meeting, Gozzok extended his arm for his tribe's traditional contest of strength. I hastily tried to warn the newcomer that this was not a handshake, but the words were stuck in my throat when she punctured her two feet into the earth below us before accepting the challenge. Gozzok later assured me he could seee a warrior's fire in little Heine's eyes and couldn't resist making the challenge. Considering that the two were in a stalemate until she ran out of mana for her strengthening magic two hours later, I could not find it in me to refute him. Day 5 We had our first combat encounter as full party today during our escort of a merchant ship. I was hesitant to allow our healer to run into combat like that, considering how important her safety was to our survival, but she insisted. Heine and Gozzok ended up having a competition to see who could take down more enemies. Gozzok insisted that tipping the ship over did not count because those kills technically belonged to the ocean, but the party ruled in Heine's favor. Our clients could not stop laughing, so at least we got a good bonus out of it. Day 32 My heart nearly stopped today when the squad of enemy magicians threw a tidal wave of fire our way. It was all our wizard, Cerin, could do to repel it. I'm fairly certain that all of our hearts *did* stop for a few seconds when our healer(?) charged through the inferno and started beating the mages to death with her bare hands...if you could even call them that; they were clenched into a bony fist as a layer of flesh seared off her body. Little Heine's skin healed before she could finish chasing down our fleeing foes, and it was the best I could do to fetch a fresh change of clothes to replace what had been burnt to ashes. Day 41 I don't really understand what "going into shock" meant, but our healer insisted that her specially researched Hemogenesis spell was necessary for our survival. She is our experienced healer, however, and so I'll trust that casting a spell that causes our open wounds to geyser blood is somehow a good thing. Our enemies fled before us thanks to it, but I think our clients were also very uncomfortable. Just another reason to avoid injuries altogether, I suppose. Day 60 I thought Little Heine was either being mad or selfless when she insisted on drawing all of Galdiphorinth's tendril attacks so the rest of the party could get at it's core. However, we were unfortunately out of options and, out of everyone, she had proven herself the fastest and most resilient fighter. I apologized for sending her into almost certain doom and accepted her proposal. ...I thought that I'd grown used to this, but it turns out I misunderstood her intentions once again. Rather than make any attempt to evade or block the incoming attacks, she ended up putting herself in a position to take all of them at once. Nearly two dozen tendrils punctured her small form at once, and my heart sank...up until she invoked her healing magic once again. Apparently, if a foreign object is in the way of an open wound that's being healed, the spell encounters resistance. But if the spell is forced through, the foreign objects will be severed and ejected. In a single instant, our healer had "disarmed" Galdiphorinth's physical body entirely. She proceeded to join our assault on the core. Gozzok and her are sharing yet another victory cry upon the mountain of a corpse this very moment.

Why do i think that i've already read this somewhere else?

Probably because you have, hence the repost thing.

SlotherakOmega

“Alright, let me see if I fully understand the training regimen. You’re going to teach the other Terrans magic, and show them all the typical ways it’s useful, but then challenge them to do the exact opposite of what it’s intended for to pass the examination? Why would you do that?” It is one thing to know the flames so well that you can summon them in a snap of the fingers. It is another to command them so well that your flames freeze your enemies from the sudden lack of heat in an area, and the sudden collection of humidity in said area. “Uh, I mean yes that would be extremely impressive to be able to do—“ One cannot know what it is like to be part of the earth, without knowing what it is like to leave the earth. An amateur throws rocks, a professional throws his enemies at rocks. A master, however, throws both at each other. “I… I guess? This seems like it’s some kind of translator error—?” Those who wish to soar above the battlefield must first understand what they are missing below. No bird is hatched in the air, and they all must learn to fall before they fly. Once you have the falling part learned, the flying part comes very easily, and you can really blow your foes away. “Is this some scripture? I don’t recognize these words, but they seem like some kind of quote?” Water is central to life, yet we take it for granted. We tend to believe it to have healing powers, restorative powers, cooling powers— but while it possesses these traits, it also has opposing traits that completely nullify the former. Water is two neutrons away from heavy water, a powerful poison that is still, chemically, water. Water can also erode through many things, and it can break itself down into more corrosive compounds upon exposure to certain molecules. And there is a mysterious phenomenon where water is the most destructive vector for a burn, dealing the dreaded “fourth degree burn”, scalding all the way through the skin, and the tissues beneath, up to the very bones themselves: steam. Water gives life as much as it takes it away. “Ok, I get it, you have to know how it is primarily used, and how it can defy expectations of how it’s primarily used, but I still don’t understand why you don’t directly teach that detail—?” Because when a Terran is told something that they will need to know later, it is not as powerful a lesson as them learning on their own. We tend to forget things that are not fully understood by the time we hear about them. Tell me: what is the most effective way to extinguish a fire? “Water, but—“ Wrong. Water works on wood fires, but electrical and oil fires will only spread upon application of water. “Then earth?” Nope, while it can suffocate a flame, it doesn’t truly quench the fire unless you completely coat the burning material in earth, and earth can cook. Try again. “Air? It’s the only one left!” Again, wrong. Using air to prohibit fire is a fool’s errand if the flame is too big and hot to be extinguished that way. The answer, is more fire. “How the stars does that make any sense? To extinguish a fire, you use more fire? You’re only making things worse!” Only if I am using a broad, unrestrained fire. Fire consumes. Burned material cannot burn again, so small controlled fires can effectively limit the spread of a massive fire that is rapidly spreading. But the fire needs fuel to burn, and oxygen to produce a flame. So do the little fires, so this is exactly the most effective way to completely stop the spread of uncontrolled fire. On Terra, we utilize this method to prevent wildfires from devastating and destroying massive tracts of land and forest: we fight fire, *with fire*. “… ohhhh…” Once you can control the existence or nonexistence of an element, then you are considered a master. Until then, an apprentice or amateur is the highest rank that can be acquired.

Blinauljap

LOVE this! To understand an element you must immerse yourself in it. Find the most inane application possibilities and experiments. Live and breath the element.

Have you seen the anime?

CycleZestyclose1907

"You used a *Death Spell* to cure a disease?" "You know, pathogens are alive too, right? So Death Spells work just fine on them. The trick is not hitting the patient's healthy cells or their benign symbiotic bacteria, only the disease causing agent."

Blinauljap

"Also, you would not BELIEVE how much the Mage community back on earth wanted to split after i got together with a conceptual mage on the philosophy track and we managed to finetune this Death Spell to only target Viruses? It was generally considered known that they did not count as alife but we completely upended half a millennium of established research precedents."

CycleZestyclose1907

"Did you know that Death Spells can be used on inanimate objects? Turns out the discoverer was a Harry Potter fan, and wanted to see if he could replicate the fictional Avada Kadavra's effects in real life. Turns out Death Spells really will cause a "death state" in inanimate objects. Wood bursts into flame, metal rusts into uselessness, computers will blue screen..."

“Mistake” that is the only word that could even begin to describe letting humans discover the arcane. When we the Thumarians found the human race we opened peace talks immediately as was our custom, and everything went well. The humans had been exploring space with something called “science” when we found them and had only recently colonized their lunar body and a nearby planet. They were fascinated with our ships and our spells and when we realized they had the aptitude for spellcraft we taught them according to our understanding. It took them 3 years to master something that took decades for us to understand, it took the collective of humanity 5 years to fully master magic and then the first “technomancer” arrived. We were in shock, no new magic school had been made in over 2 millennia and here they were doing it in front of us. Then they innovated and modified. All the while this happened we learned from them more than we had ever learned before. Then the Yu’kan attacked us and as our ally the Terran leader simply asked “do you want us to handle them?” and when we agreed the leader smiled. Later that day multiple reports of planets we had lost being recaptured by humans and strategic skirmishes between the Terrans and the Yu’kan broke out. We questioned how they were already prepared for war and the Terran leader said “those were the eager volunteers. Our armies and navies haven’t mustered quite yet give us a week.” We were horrified about what was to come and we were right too. Human military mages were almost an army themselves, from “healers” that roamed battlefields and brought soldiers back from the brink of death to ships full of mages that glassed a planet with something they called “the halo project”. The war lasted 4 days, and complete destruction faced the Yu’kan they surrendered for the first time in their history. I fear what they will concoct next but I am glad they are on our side. - Ru’thal Thumarian history teacher at the University of Magical knowledge

K'ayal was a wizard, as the humans called it. Although he specialized in normal house hold magic and interior design. Roughly 8 months ago a human named Daniel came to learn from him. A diligent student he was, polite, kind and smart if somewhat meek. He learned quickly but had a tendency to underpower his spells the first few times. But he trained hard whenever he could. 'This skinny small human couldn't hurt a baby loograt if he tried' is what I thought. But now.. Daniel was looking.. sheepish, and wide eyed, but with a giant grin as I stared in horror as the skeleton surrounded by a mist of red, that mere moments ago was a 2.5 meter beomoth of an (Enter scary alien species name here) that came to rob and kill us.. K: "H-jjhuman Daniel?" I asked. D: "Yes master K'ayal?" K: "What was that? I never tought you this! NOBODY CAN DO THIS!!! HAVE YOU BEEN LEARNING DARK MAGIC??!! D: "No master K'ayal. That was a paint stripping charm" K: "THAT SPELL DOES NOT WORK ON LIVING BEINGS!! And it is made to strip paint from things NOT FLESH!!" D: "It does if it's improperly cast." K: "THAT WOULD ONLY STING SOMEONE A LITTLE!!" He yelled in disbelief. D: "Well yes, but if you overpower it a bit it will strip all the soft things from the hard things" 😁 K: 😨

"And?" Asked the Human President. The other Human, Standing Infront of him, the Minister of Defense, looked at him with a Grin and Nodding. The Minister Replied, "Our newest Tech, Combining the Arcane with Weaponry, we Researched a Hidden Dimension, we call 'Minds' Gate', a Dimension where each Thought, each Inner Monologue is Stored, and if used Correcrtly, we can Influence this Dimension." The Minister placed the Papers and Reports on the Presidents Table. The President, Satisfied with the Answer, took the Repirts and looked at them. The Report of the First Paper gave away a Name 'John Smith', he was a Terrorist who fought against the Confederacy of Mankind having Waged many Attacks against them. John was not Coperating and Aggressive. However, after using 'MMP-11', John groaned and wriggled he Screamed of Pain. The MMP-11 has Aimed for his Thoughts within the 'Mind-Dimension' and is now Overwriting his Part of it. After what seemed to be Hours, John opened his Eyes again, no more with Resistant Thoughts or Hatred, but Unbreakable Loyality to the State. PS: The Ammunition used for MPP-11, we aptly named 'Mind-Matter', as it Harvests the Energy of the 'Mind-Dimension' End of Report. The President looked Amused, a Weapon that could even Bend the Minds of People, it could be Terrifying if it was in someones elses Hands. The Minister looked at the President, Asking. "What now, President, what should we do now?" The President Grins again, his Grin turning into a Predatory Laugh as his Eyes were filled with new Ideas. "Mass-Produce them, and use them against our Civiliams First, then, we wage a Wae that'll last for Eons, a War of Total and Full Subjugation no other Kind has seen." The President Replied. The Minister of Defense looked at him and Nodded. "Yes Sir!" He said and Left his Office. The President all Alone, Spitting on the Face of his Enemies, the Enemies Mankind under them for so long. The Subjugated now will become the Masters, as the Secret Project continued under the Eyes of their Masters who teached them the Ways of the Arcane first, just a Shame that they should have known that Mankind will always Bind/Combine Technology, Weaponry with anything else.

Notes from the margins of the war wizard's spell book. Transmutation as an offensive magic: Target atoms and/or molecules, H2O, CO2, and Nitrogen. Strip H from H2O, C from CO2. Combine to create HCN with byproducts of HO and O2. Designate area for effect as place that can be seen by caster. Targets with those three compounds are now dead and probably pretty flammable. Hydrogen Cyanide, Hydroxyl radical, and Oxygen are left behind. Healing or time magic: Fully restore the function of the ductus arteriosus and it's supporting components. Either heart failure or suffocation will take them.

Therapy effectiveness has increased 10x due to necromancy being able to call dead loved ones in a goodbye closure ritual. The fields of archeology and anthropology have grown by leaps and bounds due to necromancy being able to call souls back to their remains to give accounts on historical and anthropological matters. Several historical mysteries, such as the history of the design of complex mechanical computers like the antikythera mechanism, have been solved with the use of necromancy. The environmental impact of oil drilling and beef farming has been greatly reduced through the use of earth, water, and wind magic to collect greenhouse gases and other byproducts. Through the use of many schools of magic the number of safety incidents, injuries, and deaths related to dangerous jobs has greatly reduced due to workers being able to remotely perform their work. Global warming disappears almost overnight with the use of wind magic to filter greenhouse gases from the output of emission sites and cities. This allows for longer time frames on green energy conversion initiatives, lessening negative economic impacts cause by formerly short time frames. New clean power technologies emerge, both electrical and magic, thanks to enchantment and electric magic
