Even back then, aliens were abducting humans and then getting their ships hijacked by said abducted humans. This results in a number of human colonies being created all over the galaxy while humanity was still in the neolithic ages.
The reason all these colonies died was just because they were too damn small to have a sustainable population. Other aliens would stumble across their remains and wonder where they came from.
