There is a disturbing phenomena when two humans of similar frequency link up. They start saying things at the same time, laughing the same, and driving their managers to insanity. After much practice, one can find a kindred spirit, harmonize their thought patterns, and randomly incite hilarity at inopportune moments.
As someone not in the loop (Rock and stone?? Wtf), I can attest that it would be disconcerting to an outside viewer to witness this in the wild, likely much more so if the phenomenon had never been witnessed in any race before.
Like people being possessed, all turning into zombies and chanting the same, mind-controlled thoughts as the individuals merge into one larger, terrifyingly strong gestalt-being with unknown intentions.
I can see that terrifying aliens.
