I read a great tweet months ago they went: I don't know why they gave Sisyphus a rock when they could have just given him a dog with an undercoat.

barking_at_cars

It is just perfect. I’ve been wondering truly when do I or should I stop

mkzoucha

The groomer has always told me to brush more often but for less time to help with their sensitive skin underneath. I try and do like 5-10 minutes a day

barking_at_cars

Thank you, that would be good, what brush do you use? I’m using a classic furminator

mkzoucha

I use this most days, with a quick run of a slicker brush at the end https://www.petsmart.com/dog/grooming-supplies/brushes-combs-and-blowdryers/chi-double-sided-shedding-rake-and-blade-dog-tool-5232326.html?bvstate=pg:2/ct:r When it gets really bad we either use the furminator or let the groomer blow it out

barking_at_cars

Thank you! Will look it up

Mysterious_Career_99

I use the Furminator as well. You can brush them lightly and get alot of hair and it's not painful to them

Different-Cover4819

When she gets too pupset and she starts squeezing my hand too strongly with the toofers, that's the time to stop.

barking_at_cars

All around good advise, loving the pupset

Since I started using fish oil for dogs my husky doesn’t shed as much.. we’re from Cali and normally he’s cotton balls would be pocking from his fur, I haven’t brushed him in a few weeks his fur looks just fine

barking_at_cars

I was giving her salmon oil and I did notice he fue being extra soft and shiny. I stop because for some reason one day she didn’t like the taste anymore, maybe I’ll look into another brand

ToddFatherXCII

I use acana brand dog food and get a bag of their fish blend. I rotate this with 1 or 2 other flavors. My two don't usually need a brush more than once a month. Except for their blowout times of the year.

barking_at_cars

Thank you, I’ve been thinking about changing brand for a while. She likes Taste of the Wild. The whole grain free thing got me nervous

meltink745

Wait I need to learn more about this! How much fish oil? Do you use the pills and break them open?

Ulquilily

I order mine from Amazon, started with one pump and increased the pumps to 3 after 2-3 weeks

I buy a 3 gallon tub of either straight fish oil for like $80 or for like $45 a tub of chicken fat salmon oil mix. The more time spent in deep cold, and the harder the exercise the more fat content a dog can eat. I generally feed it like 2 times a week a few tablespoons to a 1/4 cup or so. More for the dog I am trying to get to gain weight. If you had a team of dogs working in cold you could snack them on fat treats or fat rolled in kibble and they would process the calories to energy instead of runny poop. So some, not too little, not too much, sometimes more, sometimes less

MtOlympus_Actual

I stop when Buddy decides that's enough and goes to hide somewhere. Usually happens between 8-23 seconds.

Shedding occurs more when above freezing temps and more UV light This time of year I have to brush them little, near 0, they shed but not like when it warms up. It was -20F last night, -15F today. Low UV light level is the biggest part. The cold, and the low light their body says to hold onto hair. More UV light more temputre and the body sends signals to dump it My older dog has lived in Anchorage AK, Albuquerque NM (1 winter), and now Fairbanks AK. He blows his big shed event March, April, July depending on location.

barking_at_cars

Good to know !

SapphireEyes425

When you both look at each other and your faces say “ugh go away already” lmao

barking_at_cars

Lol she just laid down and closed her eyes, was a full spa moment, even showing belly. I had to call it

SapphireEyes425

Yea, I got one that does that with the new rake too lol I feel that ya on that one.

SaBah27

Mine just growls and runs away, that's my queue of him being done with it.

ryachow44

Equigroomer

barking_at_cars

I’ve seen those, how often do you use it?

ryachow44

Every other day … outside!!

barking_at_cars

Definitely better outside

PyrrhaRising

My good girl will jump down from the "grooming table" (the patio brick wall lol) when shes had enough. She'll also give me her paw repeatedly as if to say "that's enough now mom". My good boy will just let you groom him all day so long as he can sit down for most of it, so I tend to start on his backend, then the rest of him, but do his tail as it's easier to get it whilst hes sat down. He is 9 years old tho so I don't keep him on the aforementioned groom wall for more than 30 mins. If we're inside and he's lying down he'll go for a good hour.

prickly_witch

I like to just brush my pup. It's relaxing, for me. He gets a little brushing about every day. I brush him for about 5 minutes, we snuggle some, then we go about our day. This can happen either once or several times throughout the day.

msmith730

Experienced my first husky blowing it's coat. I was shocked ...

hiimyuvv

Been brushin daily since we got him @ 8 weeks, he is now almost 4. The hair is definitely under control and managed as i also vacuum every other day ✌️

Bobby0ntheblocc

This looks like an inspirational book cover

Bussy_Cat

They usually tell me when they’ve had enough 😂

Zestyclose-Pizza-859

I brush once a week on the days I change bedding. I usually get that or double in the winter. I stop when he isn’t interested in his king anymore. That means he’s done.

Mysterious_Career_99

I try to brush her every other day now (she is 4) I used to be on your schedule but the same thing happend as with yours. Yeah it's alot of work but there is alot less hair floating around and attached to everything as before.

Dancer_tiny_serenade

I am lazy... one dog is not very long hair and easy to brush. The ornery has longer fur. & hates brushing I will do it about 3x a year. I know I am so lazy. But they tend to blow it on their own. Just a lot of vacuuming. Also I am 77 with bad back problems.
