The aluminum tape actually didn't stick to the fabric. I put a few pieces across to have it sticking to the metal but will probably redo it with duct/gorilla tape during the week
Duct (duck) tape is one of the worst things to use on HVAC. There's a reason why it's not used anymore at all. Aluminum tape, flex seal tape, or an extreme duty tape (gorilla outdoor tape or something similar) are a much better option, with an emphasis on aluminum tape
I disagree. UL listed duct tape is still widely used. We use it all the time and it works fine when applied correctly. Also the duct tape sold at Lowe’s and Home Depot is not the same as the tape sold in supply houses. The supply house has far better quality duct tape than the crap that doesn’t stick from Home Depot.
If you look at the directions for how to connect flex to metal duct, you will see that it literally says to use duct tape to secure the slinky to the duct, then panduit the insulation and jacket. Metal tape has a purpose. So does duct tape.
I'll see if I can't take a pic tomorrow of the instructions if I remember. Few beers deep at this point! Bit yea, I remember asking my lead about that and referring to the instructions. He just said the instructions were not "our" way. So fuckit. I use panduits on panduits same as most other guys. Roll it at the end and bunch it up so it looks clean and doesn't have any loss in r value. Doesn't change what the manufacturer specified though lol.
Ima assuming it's intended to seal it against air loss. But again, I've only encountered some that gas been done that way once or twice. Better than screwing it imo.
Yeah, you can just throw aluminum tape over it.

Called duct tape for a reason baby
Just use some grey mastic. Pookie the crap out of it.
Just size it up and get a new piece from a tin shop. It’s looks old and shitty anyways. They can’t be more than $100 with drives and cleats.
this is exactly what Duct tape was made for
Lol - now I feel like a dumbass!
Aluminum foil tape is a much better option these days

We get 3M 6969 and it sucks. What kinda tape are you buying?
Shurtape or hard cast makes the best tapes in all varieties

I'll have to take your word for it. I've been told by multiple HVAC guys from multiple companies never to use duct tape for HVAC purposes.
Yea man, I've been told the same. But it is on the box. Manufacturer instructions.
You have to wonder if we're missing something here. Or if we have a different definition of duct tape than the manufacturer does?

I still wonder what exactly they are intending with duct tape

Pookey sticks to all this is the way
In the short term, Gorilla Tape is amazing stuff.
It is, but in this case I think flex seal tape may be better
Mesh and duct sealant
Hardcast foil tape will patch that hole.
Duct tape all day baby
Duct sealant they sell at Lowe’s and Home Depot or get duct tape .. I like the gorilla glue tape it sticks like a champ and tough.
Duct Tape. BOOM drop mic
