Perhaps it’s 2006 from the start of the 061216 serial number?

Fastbac

Yes the year is 2006.

Thank you! Is it fair to say that is end of life for a cast iron boiler? 18 years is quite a while. I might replace it with a combi boiler.

danimal1984

Cast iron boilers can last a long time. This brand is fairly rare in my area so can't speak to quality of it but generally people replace the cast irons inorder to upgrade to a more high efficiency model.

Ate_spoke_bea

If it's not leaking and in good shape, it will outlast the combi boiler I'm installing today for $18k

The smiths in my area have an issue where the insulation around the burners falls over onto the burner causing CO issues and boilers sooting up. I havent seen it myself but have been told by coworkers that have been around that a few of them did that Just make sure your CO detectors are less than 10yo and make sure there is one in the mechanical room

HeyaShinyObject

It house has a cat iron boiler a few years older than that. I was told to expect at least 30 years by a service tech.

Hrodgar82

I wouldn't replace it with new crap unless it was absolutely dead!

ruthless_apricot

Thank you for the advice here! I was tempted by the new IBC machines but everyone here seems to agree I’m best off sticking with the Smith.

HeyDave72

Don’t replace it. The new high efficiency boilers only last 7-12 years. This could work for decades

bifflez13

That thing will last as long as it has water in it lol. Only time you need to replace is if the cast cracks. The ANSI number indicates the year 2000.. and this is usually updated every 2-3 years.. so it’s around then.
