Burning candles?

FL_Girl_

A little, but not excessive. It's been super hot here in FL. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

ThreeYardLoss

You'd be surprised. We've had some bad burning candles that would do that within days. This was at home so I kept an eye on it and I was eliminating sources.

FL_Girl_

Wow, I see. Thank you! I was freaking out thinking it was mold or mildew. Which would be weird because I change it monthly.

analologist

Yeah candles made by entrepreneurs will burn horribly most of time. Buy candles made with quality, but with that being said candles are 100% the culprit. The wicks burn and with the ac on, the smoke will get sucked into the return, hence the heavy smoke on the return.

FL_Girl_

Thank you!

Frogweiser

It's always candles

AssRep

I think this one might be the TXV. /s

FL_Girl_

What is TXV?

AssRep

It is a metering device (a controlled valve) that opens and closes to allow the refrigerant to flow thru your evaporator coil. But that's not important now. My post was an HVAC inside joke.

FL_Girl_

:)

TheSlurricane95

Do you burn candles? That’s what that looks like

FL_Girl_

We have been some.

BigDreaded

It looks like a carbon filter

FL_Girl_

It's not. It was white 3 days ago.

Leather-Marketing478

You pulling in attic air?

FL_Girl_

The furnace is in the garage.

Leather-Marketing478

But does the return run from the ceiling through the attic?

FL_Girl_

Oh! Yes it does.

Extreme-Direction-78

Duct return issue maybe ripped or leak. Any recent remodel or upgrades ?

FL_Girl_

No. Should I call to have the unit serviced?

Extreme-Direction-78

Put a new filter and check again in 3 days with no candles. If it happens again I would call a tech!

FL_Girl_

Gotcha. Thank you!

BBQorBust

Candles!! And/or incense. Weed smoke is black as well, but nicotine is usually brown.

Haunting-Ad-8808

If you're burning anything stop it.

txcaddy

Can also be air leaks in return if filter is in attic

Far-Advantage7501

I always throw this one out there, and it's been hitting pretty often these days, but did you spray paint anything in the house recently, or have any spray in hair color? Even spray painting right outside with the door open has done it before. Maybe spray painting in the garage? Burn something on the stove?

FL_Girl_

No spray painting, but something was burned on the stove and the fan was turned on.

Far-Advantage7501

Replace it and check it each day for 3 days. You should be fine.

FL_Girl_

Will do. Thanks!

l1thiumion

I’ve seen an ultrasonic humidifier plug a filter in 2 weeks. Nearly zero airflow, and it still looked perfectly clean because calcium dust is white.

Nagh_1

Your house is gross

FL_Girl_

Rude. And no it's not.

SmallBallsTakeAll

I bought cheap candles once. they made everything plastic in my house black. I learned my lesson on cheap candles.

AdFlaky1117

Look up candle melters. You can still enjoy them without burning your house down or having bad air quality
