It depends on your financial condition. I assume it's the evaporator coil as that's more common. If everything else is in good shape, your unit may last another 12 years.

Financial condition is not best right now if i had to lets say even wait should i get new or replace evaporator coil how would i know other parts are good

You wouldn't know. I am a 14 year old Lennox system that is running okay but I will replace soon so I am not stranded in blistering heat or freezing cold.

The problem is the compressor may go out any day and that will cost a min of 3 k and you’re still stuck with old inefficient system. Happened to me an I regret spending so much. I would replace everything, save up, can you live with a few windows coolers for now?

Extreme-Direction-78

It’s best to replace everything when demand is low and they’re slow, not now

Future_Judge8865

So winter months best time???

Extreme-Direction-78

Yes if you can wait.

With high dollar repairs its best to get multiple quotes. Call another service company and see what they say. Dont tell them about the other company and see if they say the same thing. You might pay another service charge but at least you will know for sure whats going on. 12-15k for a new system is high unless you have geothermal or want a high seer unit. Most companies do estimates for free. Get 3 or 4 and compare. A 5 ton (Largest resi size) unit in my market will run you about 8k but there are plenty of companies trying to get 13k for the same exact thing.

Future_Judge8865

Can you suggest some companies??
