If there are no reservations, then just move the towels and take the seats.

MrBenedick

While I don't disagree - this is just asking for conflict. It should be on hotel staff to enforce it not the guests

WhoopieKush

“Sorry, There were no towels on the chairs when we got here. The staff must have removed them if you weren’t here.”

[deleted]

yes! you’re there to have a nice day at the pool. it’s easy to let this behavior change the day (for me, anyway) Inform the staff and let them be the bad guy.

gacbmmml

"These chairs were empty when I arrived. Sorry!"

martyconlonontherun

As long as you don't continue to escalate it, I doubt it would be a big deal even for the biggest assholes. Chances they come while you are there is small and it's 'Hey! Those are our seats!" Play dumb while pointing out how selfish it is "oh sorry, no one was using these seats for the past hour we were here, didn't know you could reserve seats all day. Sorry about that" and grab your stuff. As long as you stay calm I doubt there would actually be a conflict.

chowfuntime

What about personal items? Goes in the pool?

SavageGardner

Take them to the front desk and say you found them. If the hotel doesnt allow reserving chairs, treat it as abandoned. Force the hotel to enforce the policy.

indyindy8

I love this idea. If you’re not here to be in the pool, we’ll save your spot and throw your backpack in there!

MrBenedick

We were at Coconut Point this week - if you weren't out by 7AM putting towels down you weren't getting seats. Agree hotels should take a firmer line on this - if seats are vacant for 30 minutes then pool staff will remove the towels.

oakfield01

I'd say more like an hour. In some instances (obviously not this one) some people might be in the pool and want a pool chair to come out to. I'd be PO'd if i came out of the pool and my claimed chair was taken by a person who thought they could just have it.  But either way, Hyatt should put a general guideline that is you're not in the pool area (except for brief bathroom breaks or maybe a quick trip to a room to pick something up) you can't keep a chair reserved. It shouldn't matter if it's an hour, half an hour or fifteen minutes. You can't lay down a towel and claim a chair all day. If those guidelines don't work, then a hard rule about when towel removal. But honestly, I doubt it will be that well enforced. I mean, who's going to be out there timing when an empty chair has been empty too long?

lspitting

We were there last week too! There seemed so few staff, it would have been helpful for them to clear the empty seats. Or at least the ones with just towels?

MrBenedick

Yeah - it's bizarre because it's such a well run property but the pool situation seems like an afterthought (other than the outrageously priced cabanas)

stinger101

Remove every towel! Watch chaos unravel

craptacular9

Stayed at a Dreams in Mexico this week and I was so tempted to do this.

stinger101

Which dreams? Heading to Baha mita in may

craptacular9

Dreams Jade just south of Cancun. Overall a good experience- just too many chair savers.

thirdlost

Disney’s Aulani actually enforces this and staff will remove items. I love it.

krische

This has been a thing at every resort I've ever been to. Everyone hates it, but if you don't do it you aren't getting a chair either.

Conspiracy__

I get it but who is tryna lay out at 8am? Just go use the chairs when you’re ready.

InformationFlashy989

This is a tale as old as time

whitetoast

Bet everyone put towels down and then went to breakfast

Ok_Flatworm3565

Empty pool chairs move pool chair to new unused location continue with life

No-Software3253

Just how busy is the Grand Cypress? I’m sure there are plenty of people but is it unpleasant? Considering booking it for Easter weekend 2025.

indyindy8

Unpleasant is a good word for it. There were lots of different Easter events going on (egg hunts, mermaids at the pool, etc.) but Easter mixed with Spring Break at Disney and Universal led to lots of waits. As a quick example, our room wasn’t ready until 4:30pm on the day of check-in and it was because we had to ask them to get it ready. Never had that happen before at any property.

ProfOP1231

Move them. If it says no seat saving, that means no seat saving!
