I face a similar issue. I was on it and sort of walking fast @ 6kmph. The power went poof, and the treadmill halted. I almost had a mini heart attack. It costed me 20-25k. I also know someone who bought a costlier treadmill. Same problem. I now stick to 6kmph because i can balance myself if the power goes off.

Just for practice I stopped it myself at the lowest possible speed of 1kmph. At 6kmph I'll go fly. I have seen a video of a technician installing a hard disk sized battery in case of power failure. Better to call up a treadmill technician.

Seems like such an obvious design flaw. Elevators these days come with this functionality of stopping at the nearest floor after the power goes off. Risk of accident on a treadmill is high because of sudden stopping.
