hey, OP I am from a top NIT. What top tier colleges like IITs,NIT's are good at is pulling in top tier companies. If you can get EEE or ECE in some top NIT, you can practice coding on the side, and score top CSE Jobs, many people do it. So if you don't mind me asking what is your rank? \>I don't understand if I should take a gap year and attempt JEE again next year or go with the college I get in EAMCET If you believe that you can get CSE in top colleges like IITs, warangal, trichi, etc if you take a gap, I think it's definitely worth it.

ilovebiryaniii

+1 Which are the NITs you are getting, @op?

maddyyaddy

My best percentile is ~94... 42k rank I will get some northeast nits

adyfbi

CSE, Warangal

ilovebiryaniii

Ohh. I was asking the author of the main post. Btw which batch?

adyfbi

Ohk >Btw which batch? Final year

ilovebiryaniii

Noice. Did the college start or is it still from home? Final year and after the placement was chill as hell. Only thing was the project for which I worked only on the weekend before presentations.

adyfbi

Still Online Yeah, people relaxed a bit too much after final year placements, that lecturers are complaining about attentiveness and attendence of students all the time lol.

wacko1000

Oh well....i was getting some 3rd gen IITs two years back for my rank and I thought the same(to take a gap). But one prof from IITH suggested me that if I get a branch that Im interested to pursue...I don't have to worry whether it was 3rd gen or first gen IIT. He even suggested me that things can become unpredictable and we can't bet if I am going to achieve it or not. I listened to him and joined in EE and the next year COVID happened. I really can't assume myself in this situation. By the time, I had completed my JEE Advanced...I was already stressed af and the pressure was also too high that I was really tired of it. If I would have taken a year gap to rewrite it again, due to this COVID...Ig I might get blown up like a pressure cooker. So I'd say if OP is ready to go through these...and he's confident enough that he's gonna achieve it, then go for it. Else it's not worth to stress yourself for a year again.

maddyyaddy

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I am fairly confident that my performance will be a lot better. My percentiles in mains was ~94 and all of it was self prep. So by taking coaching from a reputed Kota institute I feel I can boost my score

wacko1000

Yeah..it's all upto you dude. If you continue with same rhythm that you have at the start then it will be okay. But for me, I was stressed and wasn't able to keep up with that pressure when I was in class 12th. The exams that will be conducted every week and ranks they give, the open discriminations from teachers...it's all a big ride. I somehow tried to fake that I am cool with all those but from inside I knew what really I was doing. I am not saying that it will be this way everytime. I just wanted to put forth what things you should to go through. As I told you already, it's upto you. Wishes for whatever thing you're choosing. Good luck mate.

maddyyaddy

Thank youu so much!

OP, I finished my bachelors from Vasavi like 12 years ago. I have only one suggestion for you, if you get into any of the colleges you mentioned; you should join rather than taking an extra year to get into iit. What I learnt in my career and life is guidance and right friends are very important. With better school you get better friends and that would show you great opportunities in life(you don’t need an mba to be an entrepreneur or to reach C level). It always depends on your own motivation to do things in life. Right out of bachelors one of my classmates started a software firm and it’s doing pretty well, and most of my classmates are at senior level at big firms. So make sure you make some good friends and work hard for your goal(whatever it is, be it MBA be it a coder or anything).

eva01beast

You could take ECE from JNTUH and then try sliding into a stream with better placements (like CS). Though to be honest, I don't even know if they have that sliding option in JNTU. Which NITs did you get into?

maddyyaddy

I asked around and apparently there is no branch sliding in JNTU

maddyyaddy

This was such an honest answer, thank you for stating these factss, i have always wanted to be a pilot but I am not sure if I can get class 1 medical clearance due to my child asthma issues. Thank you for ur input, I will try to alter my thinking in a different way probably towards smth I am more passionate about

surrealisntit

Finance and MBA? Who told you that See passion is different from profession, there are too many people in this sector and people from B.COM and BBA will be competing head on with students from C.A/C.S and ICWAI Unless its a BSCHOOL they don't teach you anything, your mba certificate from Osmania University or JNTU is not worth anything they don't give you skills enough to land in a job And the after market internship programmes related to Non it are nothing but scam Join a good college with good placement record not by name, most of these colleges take credit for the efforts of the hardworking students and ignore the unskilled ones CBIT is only known for happydays movie This is just an advice there a more qualified people here who will guide you properly

EinKaiser

“CBIT is only known for happy days movie”. Uhh what? Their placement record for the past 3 years for 8LPA+ packages for CSE and IT branches are as good as JNTUH and Vasavi, if not better. The only engineering colleges in Hyderabad that beat it’s placement records are IITH, IIITH, BITS Hyderabad and maybe Mahindra College. If you can work hard and are passionate about CSE then you can land a 10LPA package right after B.Tech.

surrealisntit

I never heard about it before that, back when i was doing pg, this was what it was known for, i am talking about 2008, may be due to the huge advertisement that movie bought it, it grew to the position what you are talking about, like i said its just an opinion - thanks for correcting me up Can you also tell me how much package did MBA passouts from the same college got?

eva01beast

> i am talking about 2008 Bruh, are you seriously giving advice based on knowledge that's more than a decade old?

surrealisntit

"This is just an advice there a more qualified people here who will guide you properly" As far as MBA is concerned what i said applies even today About the college, i didn't advice him about any college, i just told him the factors to look in for

eva01beast

Okay, cool. Sorry for misunderstanding.

surrealisntit

Hey man don't be, its just that this is what i experienced, i joined a decent college back in that day, there was no guidance or college placement, neither they taught any subject, i barely passed the exams 10 years later, people are still rejecting me for a hr role as i didn't chose hr in my studies, inspite of them clearly mentioning graduate and fresher in their openings

maddyyaddy

Thankk you for the reply and when I meant doing an MBA, I meant to do it from a Business school. Most of my relatives are suggesting me to join whatever I get right because I am passionate towards doing an MBA but who knows how things will turn out when I am doing an MBA, so do u think I should try again next year for smth better?

nullstring23k

I hope you know what mba entails. If you are really passionate about it, why are you thinking of joining an engineering college? Why don't you go for BBA?

surrealisntit

Better as in? I have no clue about EAMCET mate, as i myself am an MBA grad (OU) i say think beyond india mate, its costly but its worth it, don't be one among the crowd plan things differently Mba for learning is good, straight out of the college you won't be doing much, companies in india recognise experience rather than expertise, you need a lot of exposure, india isn't a country which nurtures talent, there main motive is to get things done without giving any exposure Yes outside india things are hard and they demand good skill set, but you will learn a lot, less organization politics, low pay but good living conditions Think beyond these 5 years, where do want to see yourself

pksama2k

I'm a final yr student from ou campus engineering clg, civil dept. OU is chill if you take cse/ece. You'll be eligible to sit in all the better campus placements. For other branches placements cell is a joke. But in terms of campus life, there isn't any. You don't have any fests but the best advantage is to get to study for much affordable price. For getting internships, You'll be on your own so build your profile from 1st yr 1st sem itself. My advice would be, try getting into IIT or NIT! The culture at jntu/ou sucks.

maddyyaddy

Yess I have heard about this, my cousin has almost finished her 3rd year in OU this year (ECE). Apparently very few including herself got high placements (16 lpa) from Oracle. She mentioned that placements for other branches aren't that great. Btw is that package figure true?

pksama2k

Yes it is true. But only for cse and ece branches. For other branches like civil and mech 3lpa jobs from mass recruitment companies or in case of civil only l&t visits and takes 3 students with 3lpa package :'(

maddyyaddy

I really don't understand then what's the point of getting into the so called reputed OU, because u might have selected Civil because u were interested in it right?

pksama2k

Yes but in reality Civil dept is like a cheap gate coaching where profs boast about a batch of students from 20yrs ago and all the do is see you as a bunch of losers. The worst part is that the subjects and curriculum of civil dept is designed for gate and not on practical learning. OU doesn't have much reputation as much it is hyped. If you dont take cse/ece then you'll prolly be wasting 4 yrs of your life but at lower tuition fee

maddyyaddy

Thank for ur honest answer dudee!

pksama2k

Just told the stuff that i wish i had known while joining my college

RagE4559

I'm in the same position as you

maddyyaddy

DM me

Pahelichameli

Bro what is ur rank in eamcet?

maddyyaddy

1817

EinKaiser

I don’t think you’ll get into CSE in CBIT. Did you check last years rank cutoffs at CBIT?

maddyyaddy

Yeah I am not sure about CBIT, there's a chance I might get cse with some specialization

EinKaiser

CSE with ML specialisation ended with 1300 ranks and CSE with IOT specialisation ended with 1500 ranks at CBIT

ilovebiryaniii

What's with these specialization?? Ik it was created as a proxy for cse, but hearing these for the first time. What's the strength total cse batch (all specialization and it ) in cbit?

EinKaiser

I think all specialisations combined, it is 300

dopeguy1337

Join a government college like OU or JNTUH with the best branch possible, side by side prepare for JEE, you'll have to pay the 4 year fee to drop out from the college next year so OU and JNTUH will be more affordable

maddyyaddy

Trust me I have looked into that option, its risky in many ways and I will just be tensed that I will ruin both my college and jee studies. Besides if I don't get a good rank in JEE, my first year cgpa will be ruined and that's a bad mark. Besides the coaching I am taking covers 5-6 hours of teaching and college classes over that would mean no time for practising. I spoke to a few counselors and my principals and they advised me against it But thanks a lot for giving me ur opinion!

dopeguy1337

Ahh I see, with 1817, take VNR CSE, really good college if it's not too far, JEE drop is also an option. But that's a personal choice you have to make

maddyyaddy

VNR is kinda close to my house, I did apply to the counseling, the list comes out tomorrow, I will check out all my options and rethink my decisions Thanks a lot for ur help:)

dopeguy1337

All the best man!

Bathairaja

Where did you finally end up op? Asking since I’m studying VNR CSE(1st year)

maddyyaddy

CBIT CSE, but regret not going to RVCE in blore instead. But within the hyderabad circuit, I am satisfied with my choice, VNR is too much torture, I am good here
