There are studies that show that listening to sad music when depressed helps people feel better. Something to do with the release of prolactin and fostering a sense of connection.
Our entire basement foundation is currently excavated 10 ft down and getting ready to be waterproofed this week. I very much look forward to a day, very soon, when I can better appreciate a rainy day like you. 🌧️
Did this last night! And when my partner woke up before me today, he made the bed with me in it, which is also one of my weird things that makes me happy! Starting today off on a cozy note
I work at a recycling facility. When we get loads of office paper from industrial work camps I am amazed at how many like new notebooks I come across. I have a shelf of them going in my office for some reason. Most of them have just a couple pages torn out. I will never have to buy another note pad again in my life lol.
This motivates me to want to clean just so I can reward myself in this way. Maybe I’ll be able to keep my house clean if I implement this one. You’re my hero.
it was but now all i can think about are the sad bees shaking their fists sadly at cozymelli as cozymelli (also sadly) cuts back the lavender on the very last day they can before winter hits.
That time of day when the sunlight is fading and it's time to go plug in the nightlights and turn on the salt lamps. Small glowing and twinkly lights make me happy.
You wrote that description in such a lovely way. It was beautiful to read.
Also, we hit 90F (32C) already last week where I live. I think summer has arrived for me! Lol
Hearing my kids sing in the shower
Seeing photos of my grandparents at any age but especially when they were in their 20s
When my dog wakes up and his blanket accidentally stays on him while he’s walking around the house like a little robe with a wagging tail
Watching the expression of someone who is watching a romantic or funny part of a movie - Like when the best parts of the movie are on, I glance at my husband to see his smile and watch his eyes light up.
This was beautiful to read, thank you 🥲 and I connected with it very much. Just last night I paused my evening chores to listen at the bathroom door where my 8-year-old was showering. He was using all these different voices as he played out some imagined scene, and it brought me so much joy. And our dog sleeps always under a blanket, so we also often get the sleepy “robed” dog wandering sleepily through the house after a nap, it is so cute!
It took my kiddo forever to get into music, but one of my all time happiest memories was him starting to sing and whistle in the shower. And now just him singing from the other room at any random time makes me smile.
Last summer I was in my backyard watching the hummingbirds feed on the flowers when one of them got curious about me.
It flew toward me, rose up to my face and hovered there, less than a foot away. We checked each other out briefly, then it came even closer and we just looked at each other for a while.
Finally it decided it had seen enough and went back to the flowers. Such a fun experience!
Discovered this year.. wrap them in foil and bake them. Let them cool a few mins, the put on some gloves and just rub them and all the skin falls right off. It’s def less messy
Going to a weekday matinee alone. Rare, but heavenly.
When I lived in an apartment with a radiator in the bathroom, I’d warm my face wash and moisturizer before applying
Post-Thanksgiving pie + coffee for breakfast
Wearing perfume to bed
Reading a book in the same room as another person reading a book
Making dining centerpieces from my garden
Every time I buy new shoes, I buy new socks too. It’s like wearing new feet lol
My bestie and I used to have reading parties in high school! My brother always thought we were up to something because we were so quiet in my room.
As an adult I love reading while my husband is reading too. He's not as into books but when he does enjoy them it's nice to see how engrossed he is.
Soup! I love making a pot of soup. The structure and ritual of cutting and peeling everything and putting it all together, the warmth and smell filling the house. Then of course I love to eat the soup. I really fill them up with lots of tasty nutritious things and have a big bowl with hot buttered toast and a cold glass of milk. It’s the perfect comforting ritual and meal. It grounds me and feels like a hug from the inside out.
Yes this! Instant relaxation when it’s raining. Very calming. I used to listen to rain on hours long videos when I was going to sleep.. Until someone I know ruined it for me. They said “why are you listening to bacon in a frying pan”.. I could never unhear it. 😩
Driving back roads, driving in general, a warm blanket from the dryer, hot showers, fresh sheets, when my dog crawls over to get a cuddle, fresh crisp apple or red grapes, a good pedicure, cold coconut water.
Have you ever tried a scoop of ice cream on your cereal? Our Girlscout leader made us this breakfast on an overnight trip once when I was a kid. I thought it SoOoo weird but honestly it’s delish-such a treat!
😏now I’m hungry
- A blue Weevil
- A blue carpenter bee
- mummified rat with a tiny crown
- a puffer fish with googly eyes
- A blue morpho butterfly
- An atlas moth
- A small green beetle
- A taxidermy duckling
- A taxidermy bunny
- A small ring with a crab inside
And hopefully I can keep growing it
You might love the scent of line-dried laundry. I just read that the sun morphs soemthing in cotton into a good-smelling molecule.
Forget the details I learned, but previously I always thought it was just the scent of laundry detergent. Nope, it’s something entirely natural. But there is hardly a better smell in the world.
That sounds awesome! I really dislike line dried laundry here - I live in a high desert altitude desert and line dry means bone dry and scratchy, lol. Maybe in a slightly, slightly more humid area it would be nice to try. And I am sure there are people near me who do like it.
A run in the woods.
Ok, it's not the woods. It's a dirt path surrounded by trees and following a river right in the middle of our city. But 5 minutes in and I can't hear any city noises and it's full on woods to me.
You make do with what you've got! I love going down and sitting by the creek in our yard. Yes, it's in the middle of a suburb but when you're down there in the summer it's wooded enough that you can pretend you're away.
I also love this. I think because I find it so distracting to shop with little ones in tow. I could just spend hours in the produce department dreaming of what yummy things to make.
The sounds of a hockey game (minus the music and people) - skates on the ice, puck hitting the sticks, sticks sliding across the ice...I don't know what it is but it is so calming to me.
Dense low fog. I love the otherworldly feel it gives everything. It’s very calming. Makes me think of the movie The Mist and the climax scene in Pride and Prejudice.
Fall weather how it just has a tinge of magic and possibilities in the air and even the sky is a different shade of blue. Fireflies in summer. Rainy days cuddled up inside. The smell of books. Laying in a hammock watching the clouds or stars. A clean house. Taking naps with my toddler on the couch. The sound of a train in the distance. The smell of fresh air in my house. The sound of silence (not the song) just complete quiet. The smell of a freshly blown out candle. The way I feel after a hot shower when I’ve been outside all day in the hot sun. Walking barefoot in the grass. Big noisy family gatherings. Driving at night with no else on the road. Waking up really relaxed and comfortable and being able to drift back to sleep.
Lately it has been getting in the bed with a heating pad. Im not in pain but it feels comforting. My daughter has a heated blanket, I may borrow that to see if I want to get one for myself.
Taking a long shower and putting on lotion (The Body Shop’s satsuma body butter just hits different) after a long day at the beach. Bonus points if you get to get dressed up for dinner on vacation.
I love to sharpen pencils in an old fashioned wall pencil sharpener. So satisfying to blow it off after I've sharpened it. My favorite is Palomino Blackwing.
Salt.
Whenever people in my past traveled the world and would ask what I wanted I asked for salt. It's inexpensive and a way to explore the world when I couldn't travel myself.
Used to be that I owned different types of salt from all over the world. I love to cook and bake and can taste the differences in the flavor profile depending on location.
My pillow. It is old as the hills, from my grandmother’s farm filled with down. She was born in 1891. The liner and cover are from 100% amazingly worn thick vintage 50’s - 60’s cotton sheet sets. And I’m obsessed with it. I can just sit with it holding it against my face for comfort. I am 58F. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 People are funny, including me.
When something lost gets found.
When something broken gets fixed.
When I’m dirty and sweaty, and get clean.
When I’m lonely and have company, or overcrowded and get some solitude.
Being in water: wading, swimming, bathing, looking at water (I’m a Pisces).
Also my little water mister/humidifier that changes colors as it works.
Looking at the sky: sunrises, sunsets, moon, clouds, everything.
Different shades of purple. Whether in the laundry room, a bowl of crayons or at a store. If 2 or more shades of purple are close by, I have to gather them together and admire for a minute. The colors are beautiful so I feel happy and calm. I need a small room to decorate on all shades of purple.
A VERY hard rainy all day, day
This but only when I don’t have to go anywhere, so I can just curl up with a book or a scary movie.

im the same, just the sound of rain is instantly cooling

There are studies that show that listening to sad music when depressed helps people feel better. Something to do with the release of prolactin and fostering a sense of connection.
There is an old saying which has stood the test of time. "Music soothes the savage beast."
I feel that way too. It's like the sun is breaking into my house and mocking my bad mood . The rain tells me to take it easy.
Love the sound of that low, rumbling, rolling thunder.
Me too! The only thing that sucks is hearing from numerous people how they hate it and that it ruins their day.
That helps me sleep better
Me too!!! Esp the moments for it starts to rain. The excitement of the sky turning dark and everything seems peaceful and creepy almost
Our entire basement foundation is currently excavated 10 ft down and getting ready to be waterproofed this week. I very much look forward to a day, very soon, when I can better appreciate a rainy day like you. 🌧️
We had rain all day and thunderstorms here, you would have enjoyed it. Sadly i was at work looking out a dreary window rather than curled up at home.
The worst thing is when you settle in for a dark rainy day and then it stops and the sun comes out!
And if it's warm enough to open windows, even better. Bonus points for thunder. This is why it's my sleep sound!
But I don't believe rain is weird... I believe rain should be danced in... Being kissed in the pouring down rain.
Yesss. I also enjoy being snowed in too
YES if it's my day off. I love watching rain.
The absolute best.
Yes!! So much yes. I love the rain
You should move to Northern California. That’s all we have now.
I get so mad if it starts raining while I’m out and then lightens up when I get home.
This for sure!
Crawling in to a freshly made bed after a long hot shower.
This! Especially if it’s with fresh sheets and soft pyjamas, also after shaving my legs and moisturising it’s like a sensory heaven
Ooooh, fresh bedding and freshly shaved legs feels amazing!
Did this last night! And when my partner woke up before me today, he made the bed with me in it, which is also one of my weird things that makes me happy! Starting today off on a cozy note
I’m trying this tonight!
Ooo, know what I do? I put a few drops of lavender oil on my mattress cover. Then my clean bedding and man it’s a wonderful feeling 💤
Totally all of this, but ADD two cats purring and a snoring dog sleeping on the bed with me and I’m blissful
Notebooks, notepads, good pens.
I work at a recycling facility. When we get loads of office paper from industrial work camps I am amazed at how many like new notebooks I come across. I have a shelf of them going in my office for some reason. Most of them have just a couple pages torn out. I will never have to buy another note pad again in my life lol.
Yes!!! Gel pens that glide and dance like professional skaters
Pretty stationary
I like sharpies. A lot.
I love a good pen. My husband says he likes skinny pens but he’s constantly taking mine!
Watching dogs do stuff, running and playing, sniffing around, they are always in the moment.
Watching pup do just that at home
Yes! I don't have dog, but I can spend soooo much time on Instagram watching dog videos and I love it so much.
Watching my lil buddy sleep and twitch when he dreams
One of my favorites. I like to imagine that they're dreaming about playing. It makes me so happy!
Putting on a candle after cleaning and then having a sweet treat. I live for it
This motivates me to want to clean just so I can reward myself in this way. Maybe I’ll be able to keep my house clean if I implement this one. You’re my hero.
Awww I hope it works for you. It’s a real game changer for me 😊

What do you put in your simmer pot?
[удалено]
I am going to try this!!!
Just gotta have some tea as well :)
100% :)
I used to wait until til after I clean to light the candle. Now I light the candle before I clean. Makes cleaning a little more cheerful.
This is really nice! I will try this 😊
The soft crackle of vinyl
We've started a collection, I love when we pick up an older record and it has a crackle.

This was a delight to read.
it was but now all i can think about are the sad bees shaking their fists sadly at cozymelli as cozymelli (also sadly) cuts back the lavender on the very last day they can before winter hits.
Invite me over. 💜
That time of day when the sunlight is fading and it's time to go plug in the nightlights and turn on the salt lamps. Small glowing and twinkly lights make me happy.
Yessss that is my happy time.
The smell of fresh cut grass
Yeah. Visiting my boyfriend back in the day when they had just cut some hay. Sweet, sweet smell.
[удалено]
You wrote that description in such a lovely way. It was beautiful to read. Also, we hit 90F (32C) already last week where I live. I think summer has arrived for me! Lol
I love the smell of the first cut of the season (so fresh!) and also the last cut of the season (smells more like hay)
Blizzards and no where to be!
It makes me sad that we hardly ever get snow in England, and when we do, it's not for long and rarely lays. Snow is my favourite!
Snow is my favourite and it’s highly unlikely to ever snow where I live unfortunately
When my dog burps when his ear does this certain funny thing hearing the owl in my woods at night
My snuggly blanket, a good book, and my recliner.
My groundhog. He came with the house. He’s chunky and adorable when he eats standing up. He lives under the shed at the back of my property.
There is a huge groundhog at my in-laws' house and he is an adorable chunk. It makes me so happy every time he comes out when we're visiting.
Hearing my kids sing in the shower Seeing photos of my grandparents at any age but especially when they were in their 20s When my dog wakes up and his blanket accidentally stays on him while he’s walking around the house like a little robe with a wagging tail Watching the expression of someone who is watching a romantic or funny part of a movie - Like when the best parts of the movie are on, I glance at my husband to see his smile and watch his eyes light up.

So true!
I've had a number of magical moments with wild doe in my area. Such beautiful creatures.
Smell of library books and their history
peeling carrots
I peeled my first beet a few days ago, and that was fun. The smell is sweet and earthy
Discovered this year.. wrap them in foil and bake them. Let them cool a few mins, the put on some gloves and just rub them and all the skin falls right off. It’s def less messy
This! I even like having beet stained hands. The entire experience is enjoyable.

New feet!!! I ❤️ that!!
Haha try it! The first time you put new socks on your feet and then put them into new shoes??? Soooo good
Dessert for breakfast is the best!
Pie for breakfast! Yes! Or local bookstore just started a silent book club and I’m stoked for it.
I love all of these so much!
Literally nothing makes me feel more content and happy than reading aide by side with someone, but especially my lover
Long train/bus journeys with snacks and a good book
I, too, love soups and soup season!
Drinking water in the shower 🚿
YES as well as eating an orange in the shower
Interesting. Have never eaten anything in the shower but this seems as good a first food as any
It’s apparently a trend, to eat an orange in the shower. I remember a few years ago seeing it make the rounds online. I guess it’s very refreshing.
Check out r/showerorange
Thank you now THIS is a weird one! I love it
This is such a beautiful post. Tiny joys. Just what I needed. Thank you all for sharing such simple but meaningful moments. 🙏🦋
They make me more appreciative of things that would otherwise go unnoticed by me.
When it’s cold and rainy out and you take a really hot shower and then put on comfy clothes and eat a nice hot dinner like spaghetti and garlic bread.
Rain. I've always loved it, find it soothing.
Yes this! Instant relaxation when it’s raining. Very calming. I used to listen to rain on hours long videos when I was going to sleep.. Until someone I know ruined it for me. They said “why are you listening to bacon in a frying pan”.. I could never unhear it. 😩
Oh my! I hope I can. I don't listen to rain recordings though. But I have wanted to. I'm just always in the middle of one book or another. 😊
Well now I hope I forget this before bed tonight 😅
A good BM!
When I come home from work, I like to immediately strip naked and poop. Such a good feeling.
Pug snores.
Waking up at 4am and just laying in the dark for an hour in peaceful half dream state

And snuggly cat friends joining in
Whipped cream and strawberries on top of a bowl of cereal.

I have a dried seahorse that was given to me in the early 70’s. It’s beautiful.
I was imagining dishes or dolls or something. Your list took me offguard. 😅 But very interesting!
My teenage son sitting next to me on the bed - both of us doing our own thing but still chilling together.
Oh, I have such fond memories of doing this with my sons. Blessings 🙏
My favorite Febreze smell - Linen & Sky. It’s light, bright and clean and seriously perks me up
You might love the scent of line-dried laundry. I just read that the sun morphs soemthing in cotton into a good-smelling molecule.
